Man, I use to rewatch the crap out of this trailer all the time back then. The hype was real for this game! The wait felt forever!
I may be in the minority here, but, I just wish the final version of the game was MUCH more like this trailer says it’s going to be. Taking place almost exclusively on an active war zone. Having to be tactical and stealthy in between fire fights between different factions. The game we got just felt very disjointed. You’re in the Middle East. Then South America. Then sneaking around Europe. Then back to Shadow Moses. Then on a ship. I like Metal Gear games much more when it’s one location you’re at during the whole play through. Shadow Moses. Big Shell. Zanzibar Land etc. Had I got to play THIS version of the game, then it would have easily been the best MGS game of them all.
You have a point, but the change of locations serves what MGS4 is, a love letter to the fans and the chronological end of the Solid saga.
Same. Kojima started out with that idea, just make it in one big location, but, they had problemas trying to add a lot of the "open world" elements that were later featured on MGSV, but even that game also doesn't have an open conflict between factions as the central piece of the scenario. They say that when Assasin's Creed came out, and Kojima saw a lot of the elements that he wanted to put on MGS4, he felt terrible, as there was no way to restart development of MGS4 by that point.
There's nothing in this trailer that didn't appear in the final game. You get two full acts with two factions fighting each other and to get the most out of it you have to experiment with weapons and figuring out alternate paths.
It makes sense that we get different gameplay styles as the game goes along, and the game always has cool depths to be discovered if you think outside the box a little.
The game isn't disjointed, it's eclectic
I'm there with you, man. I was seriously hoping the game was going to be mostly set in the Middle Eastern war zone. That's what the early trailers were all about and it was rather original for MGS. The South America bit felt like Snake Eater all over again, the Eastern Europe part was forgettable and the last stretch on the ship was like the Arsenal Gear part in MGS2. The game would've been just fine had it only been about the Middle East and then Shadow Moses (for old times' sake). We also never really got to face the Gekkos like the trailers promised.
@@thermonuclearcollider4418 act 3 is one of the most underrated sections in the entire franchise. The part where you have to follow the resistance member is one of the most flawlessly designed stealth sections ever made. You can manipulate the paths he takes and find alternate paths, also when you choose higher difficulty settings he takes much longer routes. Not forgettable, mate.
From act 4 onwards you get brilliant and satisfying battles with the gekkos with both optional and scripted fights. Didn't you see the part where you use the MK3 to electrify the floor in Shadow Moses, or using the Rail Gun to destroy them with one huge powerful shot? Nonsense!
that sound in 3:36 coming out from that gecko is excelent
I have to respect that this trailer is made in-engine. This game still looks so great in gameplay that they could use Snake's gameplay model and animations and it looked cinematic for the time.
The good oldie times…
0:41 I didn't realize but thanks to the upscaling I can see the foreshadowing of the scaring Snake gets at the end of Act 3
Me tooo! First time realizing that!
In theory the burn would only be part of the corpse camouflage, but wow.
Just wish the game was actually 60 FPS. After watching the 2005 Trailer.
Yep. Too bad Konami never decided to do a remake HD version on PS4/Xbox One Era or PS5/XSX era.
@@PlayscopeTimeline "Remaster". It's a shame too that Consoles now have Video Capture feature. Minus Nintendo Switch's because theirs is lame. Only 30 seconds.
What would have been better if there was ANOTHER HD/Legacy Collection for these Consoles, especially MGS4 in 60 FPS!
Only hope :)
@@PlayscopeTimeline I specifically bought an Intel I9 12900k because it is capable of emulating MGS4 in 1440p60/4k60, the latter being slightly more unstable, I doubt anyone outside of Kojima Productions saw MGS4 at 60fps until 2021.

It happened
Waiting for this game was such a great part of my life and I'll never forget it.
Thank you for this OP.

At the time when I saw this scene, I thought I could play in a first-person perspective similar to the trailer. However, in the actual retail version, it always remained in ADS, which was very disappointing.
5:54…That’s not young snake
How the hell is he smoking with a leather mask on that has zero holes?
