we used to get about 4GB of internet data back in high school for the whole year. i used it all in 6hrs to download the MGS4 720p HD trailer . then i played it on the computer lab projector during lunch break. all my friends were just blown away and we starting cheering, yelling and then we all got detention afterwards LOL. absolutely worth it.
I remember when I first saw this trailer in 2005. It was mind-blowing and got me super hyped for PS3. Then the PS3 was delayed until 2007. And then MGS4 was delayed until 2008. And then it turned out that the trailer was running on over-specced PC hardware. And then it was revealed that the PS3 wasn't quite powerful enough for Kojima's vision and thus he had to downscale the game.
I think is Kojima productions' fault on this one. Just compare MGS4 vs Uncharted 2. You just can't compare them, because one runs awful on the PS3, and the other it's one of the most beautiful games on the console. Kojima's team couldn't with the PS3 at that time, but with MGSV they did a "good job" on that aspect, only.
Well the thing is PS3's structure was shit, in the early days many developers were having problems in making/porting games for ps3 and so as Kojima Productions, the development of this game was hell because the nutshell hardware was new for them

This game still looks amazing even without the visual upgrade. Mgs4 is the perfect example of how art style can affect the longevity of a games visuals...in my opinion
Well it definitely was emblematic of that late 2000s dark/dirty art style which, honestly, worked really well for that generation. This game is so far ahead for its time.

Wish that cut scene made it into the game with otacon and snake. Was way better in the demo than the actual game. Had more of a natural feeling. Ahhhh brings back memories

Don't know what it is but this looks much cleaner and smoother than what we got with the real MGS4. Even at 2005 back than this gfx quality was to good to be true... This looks more like a 2014 game from the PS4 era
@@DerHalbeEuro Trust me I know about this... Besides textures which are low res this thing cant run in real time even on most modern graphics cards like rtx 3090. Even though engines nowdays like UE5 can do real time GI(global illumination) its still not at this level of detail and what really sets scenes here apart is the amount of volumetric dust and smoke and all that interacting with GI... We wont see this until PS6 or even PS7.
@@usernameRika I didnt mention geometry but the lightning(shading as you put it) and volumetric effects. Of course something similar can be done but not on this level.

I wish he looked more like he did in this early version facially but I understand why they went the route they did considering the state of his advanced aging in the storyline. But yeah, it's so held back by the sub-HD rendering and all over the place FPS. I'm surprised that there isn't a cap at 30, considering the game only has the potential to go above that in like, 2 scenes. In ACT 1, while you're climbing the stairs in the deserted building to meet the RAT PT squad, it's possible for the game to hit 60 or close to it in some of the stairwells that have minimal assets if you aim the camera right, and it feels bizarre. I wonder if that means we will have a native 4k60fps someday with RCPS3! Someday...
I had a dope ass rotation back then. I was kid and Ps3 first dropped in 2008. I couldn't afford it because it was around 800 dollars at the time. I waited until 2010 to get one. So I had this game and modern warfare 2 back to back. Then when I finish campaign I quickly hop on metal gear online.
This was like the most mind blowing thing for me back then. I've always been a MGS fan and this is one of my favorite series. Couldn't wait to get my hands on this game. All of these games still holds up extremely well.
Metal Gear Solid 4 was a 1st generation title for the PS3 and for that really impressive. Lots of people claim the PS3 had a terrible start, but to be fair, compare the titles the PS3 got in its first full year with what the XBox 360 had to offer and you will be rather impressed: Resistance, Motorstorm, Uncharted 1, Ratchet and Clank, Heavenly Sword were all 1st gen, 1st year titles. The problem the PS3 had was its steep price and the ridiculous amount of HATE it recieved from DAY ONE. In the end it evolved to a fantastic console which aged very well and Im still using in 2019 and beyond.
You know, there is Metal Gear Online and MGO2 revival. For the people who enjoyed the multiplayer part of the MGS4. I certainly was ecstatic when I played it once again. MGO needs more love people.
I'd love to, but that would take soooo much time. The movie is almost 4 hours, and my GPU takes hours and days for just a few minutes of video 😅 Maybe when I get a better PC I'll try it out.
