What a legacy, what a game, what a series. And never forget, this was A HIDEO KOJIMA GAME. Don't let Konami's money-grubbing remakes water down the impact these games had on current and future generations.
I know the fans probably wouldn't like it but a remake of the mgs franchise with venom snake as the protagonist (or antihero) depending on your playstyle would be awesome. Like an alternate universe mgs
The only good thing about the story were the fan theories. Some were utter autistic weeb dumbfuckery, but some were mind-blowingly good. So good, that I think it's a damn shame these people don't write for the industry. Instead we got the weakest attempt at a story I've ever seen in a AAA game.

Year 2021, still the best trailer ever seen for a videogame. Edit: Year 2022, nothing changed. Edit 2: Year 2023, still nothing changed. Edit 3: I'm afraid it's been...9 years.
Still watching this trailer in 2023… The first few minutes always make me emotional, because I can relate to the words spoken. This is one of the greatest trailers ever made.
Even with all the contents we’ve lost, even with all the bad missions, even with all the comrades who’ve fallen during the production, I love this game with all my heart and he’s probably one of my greatest memories in video games ever Love you
Sean Bankus Agreed, I'm really lucky that I was born in 1988 so I was able to experience them when they released. When MGS1 was released on PS1 10 years later in 1998, it blew my mind. PS1 was such an amazing console with games like FF7-9, MGS1, RE1-3, SH 1, Crash Bandicoot and Gran Turismo etc... People can still play them though to get familiar with the series, but not every youngster might like them because of old graphics and gameplay.
Sean Bankus I'm sadly an example of this. I wasn't born early enough and I didn't get into gaming early enough to play any of the MGS games. I didn't even know that MGS was actually a big thing until I saw a trailer for MGS V: TTP and played Ground Zeros barely a month ago (: PS Plus game :), that I understood how amazing Metal Gear Solid is. Though I never played any previous MGS game, I plan to do some background research online and pick up MGS V in September for my PS4 and enjoy hopefully one of the best games ever!
When I was a boy, we had a PlayStation system, and barely any games. My most played game on the PSX to this very day is still Metal Gear Solid, and back then I assumed it was a demo product. But that didn't stop me. I kept messing around near the helipad, keeping me entertained for hours for days and for weeks, this game wasn't like all others. Sadly, the disc broke one day, and I've begun to forget the series, including the name... Until Super Smash Bros Brawl was announced. Seeing that trailer was like seeing a long lost friend to me. I then went to get Brawl, and get MGS1-3. Admittively, I never really touched 2 since Raiden didn't interest me, but now I wish I did. Metal Gear Solid has a special place in my heart. After mgs broke, that spot was left with a hole. I've had many favorites, but none of them could fill in Metal Gear Solid. I will enjoy TPP to the fullest, and then cry knowing I will miss this series, and that this is possibly the last good game without Kojima.
@@cinemapigeon4898I really wished Kojima was left to do what he did best and Konami didn’t try to push him out. But the game now is still great. Only one could imagine what it could’ve been.
+YPA Reviews Wow, one thing I just noticed is the scene near the beginning of Kaz's speech where the prisoner is getting tortured in Camp Omega. Kojima said we'd be able to return there, but I guess that ain't happening :(
badboyzpwns yeah... this was supposed to be the one that closed the gap. When Kojima's vocal cord parasite is freed from Konami perhaps we can hopefully hear about what really happened there, what go cut, what he wanted etc.

Kojima didn't 'cut' anything from the game, he is 'saving' it for you. I know you won't believe me because your experiencing the phantom pain right now that he wants you to feel. But the game is FAR from over. Trust me.
KimoGaming WOW, that was fast! Is it really possible to play MG, MG2, MGS 1, MGS 2, MGS 3, MGS 4, Peace walker, Portable ops in a week? Come on haha. I'm guessing you did MGS 1 to 4 and that's it, which is still a lot in a week wow.
Is that the prevailing theory. That Huey was in on the attack on Outer Heaven? Horrible guy. Love Hal though. Can't wait to see what Kojima brings next without Konami BUT like all creative types, sometimes too much freedom leads to a worse product(MGS 2 comes to mind)
This trailer is still lit in 2020. Never was I so hyped for a game than MGSV and this trailer was a main reason. I remember ripping the audio and having the mp3 on my phone. 6:08 For those who want to skip the gameplay portion.
@@imbeingheldhostagebythefbi5 It literally had more missions, maps and characters planned. Literally one of the best video game trailers of all time, even regardless of the final game quality. This trailer is true artwork in the field of video game cinematography.
there's things it couldve done better. it needed more unique character moments like the ones from the other games. the funny codec calls during gameplay or in response to goofy shenanigans you do would've been dope too. I recently played the Legacy Collection, my first time with Metal Gear and was enough to see how great and epic this franchise is. I played them in the ‘right’ order, I began with MGS1 and was too awesome, pretty difficult, but the storytelling evolved me like no one before. MGS2 was great , I admit not liking Raiden in the beginning, he was so rookie and his relation with Rose was quite annoying, but he won my respect in the ending. So I started MGS4 and holy fuckin’ shit, Guns of the Patriots is the greatest gameI ever played, everything in the game is awesome, it’s was incredible feel nostalgia for something I just met , I shed some tears in the epilogue, so fucking epic, the end, the end of the path I recently started and love so much, the noble ending for Snake, Big Boss, Otacon and all the others characters I learn to love. After I played Snake Eater, I finally become a huge fan of the series, soon I will begin Peace Walker and I am going to buy Ground Zeroes. Juan Murua Games are an escape from the real world. Especially Metal Gear. It's a spy game inspired from Escape From New York. Hideo Kajima is just pretentious.
Kevin yeah because obviously part of escapism is being reminded of the dangers of nukes and that nukes can't be easily dumped so they have to store it in facilities designed especially for nuke wastes. Let's also not forget the escape of the idea of a world of information controlled by a single entity that decides what's ok for the public to know and what isn't while also having a character who is a former child soldier. And least we forget the escapism of Snake Eater set in a time when the world's super powers were ready to blow up the planet and have the player deal with loyalty and how soldiers are used and disposed of or in Peace Walker how the idea of killing off billions of people has been the reason why no one during the cold war pressed the nuke everyone button so they made a machine that wouldn't have those problems. Yep escapism at it's finest
JonattanD Let's take all the sickness from the reality and put it in a video game. How much fun is that? After all, there is no such thing as PTSD, so let's play with it in video games and see what happens. Most people will be able to disguish a fictitious video game drama from the reality. A small percentage might flip out because of their sexual inferiority complexes from "the real life". And who knows maybe this type of video games will make them one step closer to go on a killing spree.
Not just scenes. Did you not see the much larger amount of wildlife and the armored vehicles just sitting there waiting to be taken?! And that was only the 1st mission. O_O The amount of wildlife, foliage, and unoccupied vehicles would've been greater than what we got.
So many people think this game is going to be great, which it likely will be and I suspect lots of people will buy it, but so few people actually understand the story. This game will launch, it will sell great, and there will be lots of complaining about how they don't understand a damn thing.
10 ปีที่แล้ว +32
I will understand everything that's going on, since I've played every Metal Gear game. (even the early 8-bit games)
Oh how painful it is to know that you are absolutely right. Seriously though, why would anyone play what they think is the FIFTH installment in a series?! It's not that hard to play the other games! The only game that's not being sold at retailers is MGS1, but you could STILL get it on Amazon. There really is no excuse.
Charles Marin People who haven't played the other games don't even have to play all of the others to understand the story since they were not released chronologically. They really should play MGS 3, Peace Walker, Portable Ops, and Ground Zeroes to understand Big Boss's story and to know who the other characters are. Then they should play the games involving Solid Snake if they don't want to be confused.
Projection much? Why would people not understand this game? Even if you never played the previous games, a logical person should easily be able to pick up the themes of the game and the plot.
its amazing, not one video game has stopped this type of presentation, graphical fidelity or emotion since this time say what you want about the game being incomplete but this was shaping up to be one hell of a send off to a series adored by millions
Watching this trailer after finishing Ground Zeroes is so much more powerful. Especially after listening to the cassette tapes, I really really can't wait to see Big Boss and his revenge. This is the best tragic story of any game there's been.

imo phantom pain would have been better if it was a spin off not a main chapter in the series. that way the lack of story (or game really) would be more excusable
Such a big game couldn't really be a spin off though. I think it should have been a main chapter, but perhaps Kojima was the wrong man for the job of writing the story. The story is a mess, regardless of cut content. The "twist" was pointless too. The game is great and I had more than 600 hours in it. But the lack of story, and poor plot and characters, and even lack of story-driven main missions - all these things led to a fractured feeling. As if the developers had way too many ideas and the mixed everything up in a really bad way.
***** i dont think kojima is 100% to blame here since he wanted another year for game development and konami fired him and pushed the game for a 2015 release i spent like 900 hours doing fob and hitting rank #1 world wide on steam for most success. and i regret wasting my time. i should have tried to get gold in league instead lewl. at least most of the problems with that game is the players :P
I've stopped bothering with FOB after a while. It's such a waste of time and poorly executed, forced, frustrating feature. Why do everyone think Kojima wanted more time and couldn't finish?! Where is the source confirming HK wanted another year? Nothing but HK fan-rumors. Kojima was never quoted saying: "I needed 1 more year" or " I didn't finish my game" or "I wanted more time" - NEVER. This is mere theory made up by over fan-boyish Kojima supporters. Look at the story and characters that are IN THE GAME- it's downright horrible. Convulted mess of weak plotlines, motivations and loose ends, with ridiculously hilarious shallow characters that you cannot sympathize with or understand no matter what! Do we really wanted more of that terrible story? This Diamond of a game is full of cracks from horrible design choices like credits spoilers at beginning and spam credits at end with HK's name everywhere too. Also, bear in mind that Kojima had over 5 years + 80 million freaking dollars of a budget! !!!! Way too much time and money - and he wasted it on stupid things like Quiets "erotic" scenes, dumb Code Mind-Washer tapes and draaaaaaggged the hell out of it. It's HK 's fault no less if not more than Konami's
I loved this game, played the heck out of it. However most of the story left me utterly disappointed. It affected gameplay too, the way main story missions were scarce and pacing was off. It could have easily been the best game ever made with a more coherent, interesting, tighter - story and compelling deep characters and memorable dialogues. And I am not even talking about the cut chapters, mission, and chunks of content here and there. Every mission should have been a Main Story mission. Every mission should have felt meaningful, tense, with heavy consequencs. Good music playing at special parts, strong cutscenses accompanying them. Special challenges and Boss fights. Just look at this trailer, such a missed opportunity. The laughable parasite plot and shoddy pointless twist for the sake of twisting (and deceiving players). .
@@elacejota641 To make it really better? To add new details? To make new options in gameplay? This is Konami, they are not good without Kojima. They couldn't make good Metal Gear game after MGSV. They are not even going to buy a license for archival videos, which are often seen in Metal Gear Solid 3. They even easy can lose a lot of textures and videos, so they will make bad textures or use beta version video, but not video from release (That was in one of Resident Evil remakes...)
As a Metal Gear fan, I love this trailer. My father is a Vietnam vet who was exposed to Agent Orange. Over the years, apparently it is still in his body. He has cancer. The bad kind. I loved every game in this series because my father was a combat veteran. He told me enough that it worked in this game series.
man, I remember when this trailer dropped, Peace Walker still fresh in my memory and to see Kaz without his arm and leg really hit me hard, burned me up with vengeance, years later this trailer still gives me goosebumps
Emre Akça there's the issue. I'd at least like to customize my own base and staff with greater detail. Also the way they patched security settings made security devices on the base development platform completely useless.
Or watch all the games in order starting with 3. There's a TH-cam channel called KefkaProductions; who has every Metal Gear played out in movie format with some gameplay tidbits.
If I had any experience in programming or whatever, I would love to work with these people.. The story telling is just amazing and this video game world has had a big impact in my life artistically, just to appreciate the beauty of this. Man, I love this series, plz never leave us!
Child soldiers and being forced to kill them is a theme I've been wanting to see explored in games for some time. I wonder if the game will be so deep as to actually make the player hesitate shooting them. I can imagine that the guilt that haunts Big Boss over killing kids who want to kill him is one of the things that will contribute to building his war-mongering psychopathy we see in MG1 and MG2. I have an uncle who had to kill a child soldier once in some theatre of war; it's something you will never get him to talk about, and I imagine it haunts every day of his life. MGS 3 explored the guilt a human will have over killing others in war, and being haunted by their deaths(IE the nightmare river), but it was a theme Kojima forgot in MGS4(mainly, I suspect, because Solid Snake is less human than Big Boss and doesn't dwell on or regret the enemy soldiers' lives he had to take) so here's hoping that Big Boss' lingering humanity continues to play on the life he experiences constantly living on battlefields.
People always brought that "solid snake is less human" shit from their ass. The fact that proves him being more humane, is that if you kill enough enemies in mgs 4, his Psyche goes to hell and he faints. While BB goes left and right killing people and not caring one bit.
***** You can't deny he enjoys or is so desensitized to killing that he's apathetic. His enemies and even his friends constantly suggest he enjoys killing. The enemies you kill in Snake Eater haunt Big Boss in the river of nightmares and I suspect killing kids in Phantom Pain will further torment his mind. Solid Snake's guilt is barely touched upon ever unless it's being suggested he enjoys killing or if it's a gameplay thing(like the psyche).
In metal gear solid its more rewarding not to kill at all. So i think that you dont HAVE to kill children in the phantom pain but you CAN. Its not mandatory.
Me too. I want this game to be the most dark and most traumatic experience in a video game ever. It really describes the reality of war, the horrors that people see and experience in war. The feel of hopelessness and inability to change the reality.
coltonsin64 Don't wanna go in detail with this, since net is full of these topics, but Naomi hates Snake becuz Gray Fox death, until he gets to know him. Mantis and Liquid are just sociopaths, trying to bring Snake down to their level. Campell and Meryll see Snake much positive light. And Snake has really low opinion of him thx to MG 1 & 2. And yeah, he says that killing becomes easier, the more you do it. But that doesen't mean he takes pleasure from it. But overall, he is only Snake who shows regrets for killing people but don't make any bs excuses, That river of souls was also just gameplay gimmick, it Sorrow who brings that shit up, and it doesen't change Big Boss by the slightest. All of these games suggest that Big Boss enjoys violence and war, which is true. He only regretted killing the Boss, buthe mad at her, when he realized that Boss didin't share his violence fetish.
Even though the story didn't live up to expectations, the gameplay is still amazing to this day. So many triple a stealth games just have you crouch walk behind an enemy and not be heard. In mgs 5 I had to low walk, crawl, blend in with the environment, watch out for snipers or enemies with night vision goggles. You can even do most mission without even causing a death
+OrdoMallius Yeah... There is no music in this game... Ground Zeroes music was so great... Go play GZ now, finish a Sideop, listen to the awesome (short) track when the credits roll. It truly feels like a modern MGS1. Watch this trailer. When you save Miller, the strings in the background made that moment soooo epic, every time! Now whe have silence. Same with the Quiet trailer...
+OrdoMallius If the trailer doesn't feel like the game is played for you, it's because you didn't want to play that way, but you definetely can, try playing a mission without using any guns and you'll see.
Or maybe it was you know, scrapped idea? The main story ends at 31, and rest is epilogue finishing some plot lines (well, aside from the one in episode 51). Chapter 3 could have been Paz related but they decided to turn it into side ops. There was nothing else to add to the game, except for completely new story elements that was unnecessary. In its current state the game only lacks one mission (and playable Battle Gear that was cut for gameplay reasons)
This straight up happened to me. I spent the better part of 6 months on Peace walker in 2012-2013, and when this trailer hit and I saw Kaz and snake as broken men, completely defeated by the world, I felt genuine sorrow and vengeance. Showing such utter disbelief in snakes eyes as he watches his Mother Base go down in flames. I've been playing metal gear since 2004, so this totally blew my mind and I knew that this was going to be my favorite metal gear game to date. And it still is :) its everything I could've hoped for, and I come back to this trailer every so often to remember how excited I was to first play this game. I'm currently replaying it as we speak
Kojima really bamboozled us with this one, more so in this trailer. Painted us a game of bloody vengeance and complete war against Cipher, but only ended up being that way like the 1st hour of the game, and afterwards it was more or less about making the world right. Don't get me wrong, game was great, even if unfinished, but the whole vengeance vibes that it showed was just not... the bigger thing in the game like i hoped.
mgs5 has the disappointing story in the series but it also has plenty of positive as well like art direction, graphics, some level of humor, and easily the best stealth action gameplay in the series. It’s narrative is massively flawed but damn there’s still a lot to be obtained from it. I can understand why people don't like it
i think mgs5 has one of the best stories out there, rivalling metal gear solid 2 it just requires you to fill in the blanks like eli and psycho mantis abandoning the sahelanthropus after realising how useless it was in sons of liberty that cliffhanger with ocelot is comparable to eli leaving the phantom
I love how the trailer is so long and shows so much compared to modern trailers who show don't even show gameplay, Yet this trailer only shows 5% of what the game has to offer,
coming back to this 7+ years later cause it is the greatest trailer ever made

It's really sad a lot of people didn't get to enjoy the metal gear and metal gear solid games they were all amazing games for their times
Mamoyer
Dude, play the games.
Don't rob yourself of some of the greatest games of all time just because they might be a little outdated.
Sean Bankus "for their times"? Seriously? The only thing that is making them seem old is the graphics, and the controls for MGS 1.
The game has been out for years now, but I still come back to watch the trailer just because of how beautiful and how incredibly cinematic it is.
Same!! I enjoyed MGSV, but the trailer was so much better than the game!! ugh =(

Would have loved way more cutscenes in MGSV. Sucks the story wasn't really finished.

So much violence. Games become sicker and sicker just to give that shock effect.
Juan Murua Games are an escape from the real world. Especially Metal Gear. It's a spy game inspired from Escape From New York. Hideo Kajima is just pretentious.
Yeah, it's called reality.
So much violence. Films/TV Shows become sicker and sicker just to give that shock value.
JonattanD
Let's take all the sickness from the reality and put it in a video game.
MGSV felt so incomplete and rewatching the trailers you notice there are a ton of scenes that didn't make it into the game.
Not just scenes. Did you not see the much larger amount of wildlife and the armored vehicles just sitting there waiting to be taken?! And that was only the 1st mission. O_O
The amount of wildlife, foliage, and unoccupied vehicles would've been greater than what we got.
I think it's worse because most of those scene were actually in the game but it's just so little of that in the game :/
So many people think this game is going to be great, which it likely will be and I suspect lots of people will buy it, but so few people actually understand the story. This game will launch, it will sell great, and there will be lots of complaining about how they don't understand a damn thing.
I will understand everything that's going on, since I've played every Metal Gear game. (even the early 8-bit games)
@lambo pickle, that's what YongYea's TH-cam channel is for!! :D
Even if you never played the previous games, a logical person should easily be able to pick up the themes of the game and the plot.
its amazing, not one video game has stopped this type of presentation, graphical fidelity or emotion since this time

imo phantom pain would have been better if it was a spin off not a main chapter in the series. that way the lack of story (or game really) would be more excusable

The laughable parasite plot and shoddy pointless twist for the sake of twisting (and deceiving players).
.
5:35 ending the track with just "words that kill" ...
Kojima spoiling a plot point in the trailer is a fucking legend.
2019. Peopke can we not still agree that even unfinished.. this was one of the best video game ever created?!
No, it’s not,the open world scenery is too boring, incredible gameplay though
It could be, but it's not
it was trash
This trailer is legendary, & I came here just to suffer.
Back here reliving all the MGS trailers after the MGS3 remake news!! ❤
but it's not kojima
@@pigmeo8653es un remake, misma historia mejores gráficos, para que haría falta Kojima?
Same
@@elacejota641 To make it really better? To add new details? To make new options in gameplay?
This is Konami, they are not good without Kojima. They couldn't make good Metal Gear game after MGSV. They are not even going to buy a license for archival videos, which are often seen in Metal Gear Solid 3. They even easy can lose a lot of textures and videos, so they will make bad textures or use beta version video, but not video from release (That was in one of Resident Evil remakes...)
Coming back 9 years later, close to Memorial Day. If you know you know.
5:47 back in 2013 i rewatched this jump 1000 times.
man, I remember when this trailer dropped, Peace Walker still fresh in my memory and to see Kaz without his arm and leg really hit me hard, burned me up with vengeance, years later this trailer still gives me goosebumps
One of the best trailers that still brings a tear to my eye
this game should've been much more. We were Ubisofted!
the game is awesome but the game not the story ;_;
Emre Akça there's the issue. I'd at least like to customize my own base and staff with greater detail. Also the way they patched security settings made security devices on the base development platform completely useless.
They played us like a damn fiddle!
We got the final mission snatched away
and overcharged for MB Coins!
Why are we still here?
+MRsc0rpi0n just to suffer
+MRsc0rpi0n the body I've lost
Won't stop hurting
+Nathan Drake Cipher sent us to hell, but wer'e going even deeper, take back every thing we lost.
+ZEKE Productions CLOSED kaz I'm already a demon
This game gives me thrills and I have not even played any metal gear game ever before. So excited about this game
Go play them noooOOOW >;D!
Gooooooo
Fight with us little soldier. Show us how strong you really are.
Or watch all the games in order starting with 3. There's a TH-cam channel called KefkaProductions; who has every Metal Gear played out in movie format with some gameplay tidbits.
ProPcGamer that's what happens when you only care about one platform
But overall, he is only Snake who shows regrets for killing people but don't make any bs excuses,
That river of souls was also just gameplay gimmick, it Sorrow who brings that shit up, and it doesen't change Big Boss by the slightest. All of these games suggest that Big Boss enjoys violence and war, which is true. He only regretted killing the Boss, buthe mad at her, when he realized that Boss didin't share his violence fetish.
You hear that music? That's kojima playing the fiddle with your heartstrings :p
+Harris Sharif You feel too don't you?
Keep repeating this trailer until today. Sad because the francise is dead. RIP MGS
Watching this in 2019.... Can't believe it's been 9... sorry, 6 years...
Same
gongal more three years and your mistake will be correct
9 years in Coma .... I understood
cant wait for year 2022
Even though the story didn't live up to expectations, the gameplay is still amazing to this day. So many triple a stealth games just have you crouch walk behind an enemy and not be heard.
In mgs 5 I had to low walk, crawl, blend in with the environment, watch out for snipers or enemies with night vision goggles. You can even do most mission without even causing a death
9 years later, this game still holds up!
This trailer feels NOTHING like the game I played.
+OrdoMallius
If the trailer doesn't feel like the game is played for you, it's because you didn't want to play that way, but you definetely can, try playing a mission without using any guns and you'll see.
+Aidan Birch Oh no, one single mission was cut. Such an unfinished game because of one cut mission.
A whole chapter was cut.*****
Imagine watching this after all the hard work that you did in MGS:PW
"What the fuck happened?"
NAH FACTS 😭
PAZZZ THAT SPYING B&*&*&*&
Kojima really bamboozled us with this one, more so in this trailer. Painted us a game of bloody vengeance and complete war against Cipher, but only ended up being that way like the 1st hour of the game, and afterwards it was more or less about making the world right. Don't get me wrong, game was great, even if unfinished, but the whole vengeance vibes that it showed was just not... the bigger thing in the game like i hoped.
I mean, he was only able to finish like half the game, so your point is worthless.
mgs5 has the disappointing story in the series but it also has plenty of positive as well like art direction, graphics, some level of humor, and easily the best stealth action gameplay in the series.
It’s narrative is massively flawed but damn there’s still a lot to be obtained from it.
I can understand why people don't like it
i think mgs5 has one of the best stories out there, rivalling metal gear solid 2 it just requires you to fill in the blanks like eli and psycho mantis abandoning the sahelanthropus after realising how useless it was
in sons of liberty that cliffhanger with ocelot is comparable to eli leaving the phantom
It’s not that out there when you think about it. Venom Snake isn’t Big Boss after all, just a decoy.
But even so, Venom Snake was the better man.
100% agree
It’s 6 years later and this is still imo the best video game trailer I’ve ever seen. Love Kojima
This was 6 years ago?!....im getting old.
もう7年前に発売されたゲームなのか。
それを感じさせないくらい美しいグラフィックと完成されたオープンワールドに改めて感激。
そして、今からでも作り直してほしいゲーム。
lol you don't need to "remake" this game AT ALL, it's fine JUST the way as it is as a FANTASTIC game!
I love how the trailer is so long and shows so much compared to modern trailers who show don't even show gameplay, Yet this trailer only shows 5% of what the game has to offer,
No matter how many times I watch this, it still gives me chills. I'm pretty damn hyped!
