My idea for changing the stars includes Orion, Taurus and Pleiades (Subaru). Figure it's time to put something up there that's relevant to us, don't you think? Take Orion's belt and "Betelgeuse" becomes the head with a baseball hat. The 3 stars of Orion's belt make up the 3 fat belt loops on a baseball uniform. The spear pointing at Subaru/Pleiades is the bat and Subaru/Pleiades is the baseball flying away after being hit. "Bellatrix" is the hand that let go and "Aldebaran" of Taurus is the bat's tip. Put it all together and you get, "THE ALL-STAR." In my case, I see a left-handed batter with a, "7," on the jersey. Which makes him, "Mickey." Maybe you could help me understand what kind of math was happening between 9:58-10:06 (when Neil asked what percent of 26000 yrs ago was 2000 yrs ago)? How did they come up with 113, approximated to 112, only to explain that there are now 13 zodiac signs? I do suck at math, so your help will be much appreciated. Thank you very much.
@@miguelungson9230Our view of the stars moves over the course of 26000 years as the Earth's axis rotates in a 360 degree circle during this cycle. 360 degrees is approximated to the 365 days in a year, meaning that you can roughly say for every 1 degree of axis change, the relative position of the stars compared to the sun is shifted by about 1 day. So if you find the fraction of 26000 years that has passed, you can find how many degrees the axis has changed by which roughly correlates to how many days the view of the sky has shifted by. So, if you take 2000/26000, you get 1/13. This is approximated to 1/12 to easily align with 12 months in a year. Which means that the relative position of the stars to the sun has shifted by about 1/12 of a year (1 month) since 2000 years ago when the zodiac dates were defined. In other words, this means that the zodiac dates are off by about 1 month (according to what our view of the position of the stars relative to the sun is today). At least that's my understanding of it. I may not be totally accurate as I'm going based on memory of what I heard in the video and my rough understanding of it. I'm no astrophysicist nor mathematician, I just took a few minutes to reason it out in my head.
"what percent of 26,000 is 2,000?" Is another way of asking "what is 2,000 divided by 26,000?" Which is just 2 / 26, which, when simplified, is 1 / 13. One-thirteenTH.

How did you learn to identify constellations from this channel? I've listened to a ton of these and haven't ever heard them talk much about how to do this.
I was on Zanzibar using the Star Walk app identifying constellations and stargazing with my Celestron Astromaster binoculars for about an hour. I noticed a group of locals gathering around behind me. Loved it. I'm 66 and have learned a whole lot of new stuff! Right ascension and declination, precession, galactic equator - fascinating, thank you guys for the facts and the laughter!
@@anitagarcia8056 it's actually both. Meridiem is more historically proper and specifies time, meridian is more common while more concisely specifying location. The two terms are enough related to each other as to be interchangeable when talking about local (locational) time of day, while putting "meridiem" on a map would not be proper because the map does not reflect actual time of day, even if it includes time offsets based on meridians.
I was amazed to learn the difference in how the constellations move across the sky in New York as opposed to in Tanzania. In New York they move by horizontally in a circular fashion, in Zanzibar a little south of the equator they appeared to descend vertically. It was fascinating.

@ThisisDaniel they all have a place and relation to your as a person. I've done numerous charts, the ones that resonate the most are western (I guess whole house system) and sidereal with 13th sign (to which I used to be resistant, but it actually turned to explain so much lol). Vedic, not so much.
@@ksy4747 I alternate between the various charts. Sidereal is akin to vedic, as they use the same metrics to calculate placements. I hear you, though x
Great Explainer. Neil Nails it everytime. He just explained the Western(Tropical) Zodiac System. Whereas, the Indian(Vedic) Zodiac system follows the actual position of the background of stars and hence it can never be incorrect. Your Vedic Zodiac Sign can never be wrong.
he explained it's original not its use of the zero degree Aries point. which tropical use the name and meaning still appy if you use the Aries point not the postion of constellations.
@anthonyjay767 every year the sun hits the earth on the equinox at zero degrees of what is called Aries that is the starting mark for what is known as tropical astrology. it ignors the constellations which have moved back because of earth's wobble. Pisces is the back ground constellation now but we read a chart from how the sun hits the degrees on the earth not the constellations behind it .despite positioning of the stars the name and qualities still describe the person place or thing. most people have no idea including these two very smart people.
How I remember latidute vs longitude: Picture a balloon that looks like the Earth, with a pencil in the middle pointing towards the surface. As the balloon rotates, if we move the pencil up or down from the middle line (called the equator) at a certain angle called latitude, it will create a line that runs parallel to the equator. This line is also called the latitude. But, if we move the pencil left or right (east or west) at a different angle called longitude and change the rotation of the balloon to be north to south, the pencil will create a line called longitude.
i remember thinking of it as if you are climbing up a really tall LADDER (latitude). With the rungs, or steps, of the ladder representing latitude, and the ladder rails stretching all the way from the bottom of the earth (south pole) to the top of the earth (north pole) representing longitude. My mind also thinks like, it is a LONG way up, haha! 🤷♀️ always worked for me...
I pondered this a few years ago and it made me appreciate every day every moment sunrise cloud sky colors sunsets axis tilt time will never happen again in the same manner it’s all original and singular moments… oh the rabbit hole!!!
I like how Neil always keeps leaving questions for Chuck to answer showing hes both engaged and knowledgeable, and it does a good job at reinforcing things to learn them. Also it admittedly breaks up neil from sounding like he's ranting over people lol.

I’ve lived on 96th st and merdian and now by south Emerson near Meridian and honestly I am blown away. And Indianapolis is near the middle so Meridian balances that in a weird way
am stands for the Latin ante meridiem, translating to "before midday". This is the time before noon. pm stands for post meridiem or "after midday" - the time after noon. They were both right
This was like a flashback to 8th grade..I remembered these terms and felt smart asl! But whew..without the animations, I would be lost without a map. Im a visual learner so thx for the visuals! It helped a lot!
The last time i got this many lines was from my school teacher saying i must not talk in class.....had to write it 500 times....so i dud 1000 and told them to keep the other 500 for next time....i got another 500 lines saying i must not talk back to my teacher.
After NDT explained how the eclipse worked on the Today show, I'm inpsired to watch more of these videos to relearn science! I didn't major in science but I always enjoyed my science classes in high school and astronomy in college!
And this is why, on your birthday, the stars are aligned exactly where they were when you were born. 😊 and originally, there were 13 months, which is why the sun goes throughout 13 zodiacs instead of 12.
10:27 What about the addition of (or, really, the re-introduction of) the thirteenth sign of the Zodiac? Just wondering if, and then how, that affects the way you rewind the sky. 🙂

I love it I love it. I’ve been saying this for years that you can’t calculate someone’s personality from the stars. I am glad that I am constantly in God because God is constant.
Actually Neil, there are 12 constellations in the Zodiac if we exclude Libra. You see Libra was added by the Romans which meant that they chopped off the claws of the Scorpion to design Libra. So let's restore Scorpius to its rightful place and justice will be done instead of divined. Also not all constellations are equal. Virgo has a width of some 45 degrees like with Pisces. I'm not into astrology, yet there is a form known as 'sidereal astrology' which takes into account constellation width and precession and if it was me, returning the claws to Scorpio. Kind regards.
@@bllaccktesla180I'm sorry but I don't agree with you. The information I gave is not "mission critical" but rather "historical" and which it is easy for a person not to be up-to-date with. The zodiac system is a Western cultural perception of arranging star patterns. If you check out other cultures you will find they have different displays for the zodiac; nothing traumatic about that. On the otherhand when we are speaking about scientific information, this refers to info that can be repeatedly tested and verified. There is no misinformation here, just a few snippets that Neil may not have known about. Btw I think the Chinese have the zodiac resemble a very long dragon; so it's all about "seeing things".
Well of course our Western zodiac is cultural since there is nothing "scientific" about the zodiac itself. Rather what Neil was on about was more to do with the ecliptic path of the sun and the background of stars in that path. Nobody said it was 'mission critical' and yes it is 'historical' since the Romans mutilated Scorpius.

He just explained the Western(Tropical) Zodiac System. Whereas, the Indian(Vedic) Zodiac system follows the actual position of the background of stars and hence it can never be incorrect.
Your Vedic Zodiac Sign can never be wrong.
Looks like I'll have to scrap the Traditional Western Zodiac System for the Vedic one now. Gotta learn my natal chart all over again. Lol 😂
This is the comment i was looking for
he explained it's original not its use of the zero degree Aries point. which tropical use the name and meaning still appy if you use the Aries point not the postion of constellations.
@@seveneleven7725 im not too clear on what you're explaining, but I would like to understand. Can you explain further?
I've been telling myself recently that I was never good at science as a kid because I was just scared of it. Now I know it's just way more than I can process. 🙌🏾
All my life, a long one before the internet, I thought I'd learned that it meant 'after midnight' ~ Love you guys.
After Midnight and Pre Midninght still make sense to me Chuck, u were still on the money 👌
I love watching your videos. The level at which you deliver information in a manner that is so easy to understand is unparalleled. If all educators had this ability, learning would be so much more fun and easier to decipher.
Thanks Neil for the Videos. They are always educational and entertaining.
8:42-9:00 - This is why I love listening to Neil... I always learn something new and intriguing. ❤❤❤❤❤
Neil is the best teacher ❤❤
This is why I love U Mr Tyson...I got up this morning while observing the Sunrise & said, why don't they teach N school that the Sun &Moon R not rising/setting.....We're Rotating Around (wobbling) in a 24hrs span...&Yes there is a 13th sign with it's own chacteristic , I'm a Ophiuchus Sagittarius ...I so appreicate the lesson today😊
The intro is gorgeous ❤❤❤❤
Not just weird stuff you would never think about I actually wanted to know the answer to a lot of these that you said
Thanks for a very clear explanation of things one should know before even looking for constellations.👌
This is my favorite podcast duo. %+
I live in Indianapolis. We have a street called Meridian. It's center of the city and goes north/south. 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯 I never even questioned it
Yeah I’m here too lol I live a street ova from meridian i always knew it was the middle of the city , I tell folks I live in the middle of the city I’m 20 to 25 mins away from East and west etc
They were both right
Neil and Chuck, y'all rock! Love the channel and content. Peace 🤘 💥 ✌️
Just discovered this yesterday and I love it. The chemistry is perfect
I would need to listen to this at least 10 more times to get a bare bones understanding of this subject but thanks guys for trying.
When I feel like unlearning truth, I view Neil. He's the best.
Thanks for making generations curious. God bless you mr. Neil. ❤
As a lover of comedy, a lover who uses comedy to deal with life; I’m so grateful science has put the comedic spin in its storytelling!
Great information as usual, and I enjoy the graphics to help drive the point home!
I'm currently doing a Celestial Navigation Course. This video is Sooo helpful. Love the content always 🙏🏾🙌
Very informative!! Thank you. I love you guys!
I ❤ these two together 😂 Seriously, who thought of this collaboration 😅 I’ve learned a lot watching and listening 😊
This was brilliant!!! And very hilarious 😂. Thank you Neil and Chuck...
This was like a flashback to 8th grade..I remembered these terms and felt smart asl! But whew..without the animations, I would be lost without a map. Im a visual learner so thx for the visuals! It helped a lot!
I like this new intro, thanks for the content Neil & Chuck, from France
LOVIN THE NEW INTRO
The last time i got this many lines was from my school teacher saying i must not talk in class.....had to write it 500 times....so i dud 1000 and told them to keep the other 500 for next time....i got another 500 lines saying i must not talk back to my teacher.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 I feel your pain
Last time for me was all my answers I thought I had right were wrong 😂😂😂 just like my Zodiac 😂
🤣😂😂
I wrote so many lines in school I had carpal tunnel syndrome before it existed.
After NDT explained how the eclipse worked on the Today show, I'm inpsired to watch more of these videos to relearn science! I didn't major in science but I always enjoyed my science classes in high school and astronomy in college!
Now that's a worthy intro! Thank you
“I’m so sorry guys, this is worse than Pluto for you”😂
This challenges everything we read about the signs of the zodiac.😩😂
And this is why, on your birthday, the stars are aligned exactly where they were when you were born. 😊 and originally, there were 13 months, which is why the sun goes throughout 13 zodiacs instead of 12.
I was more familiar with the terms azimuth and elevation, so this was very informative.
Great content sirs, was entertaining and informative. Love the show
Never been so blown away by a bunch of lines.
You have ruined the lifes of those zodiac people!😂😂😂
Not necessarily it further explains it

Many thanks for enlightening us. You teach wonderful concepts in a simplified language which several schools failed to do in decades
10:27 What about the addition of (or, really, the re-introduction of) the thirteenth sign of the Zodiac? Just wondering if, and then how, that affects the way you rewind the sky. 🙂
This man always makes learning these things so interesting. I grew up watching Bill Nye and he was super great but Neil is crazy smart. I would love to meet him just to soak up whatever he has to talk about!
They didn’t teach us this in high school
In which country? I'm sorry to hear that, buddy.
Thank you for your great information. I hated science on school but love your channel.
This is a win for sidereal astrology
No! BS + BS = BS -> Get used to it.
You the first person that disagrees in the comments 🔥, there so much misinformation from these scientists people trust
Are you trying to defend birthdate discrimination? 🤡@@bllaccktesla180
And same question to OP here.
After midnight! Good one.
