    Top tip: If you might need to capture a vehicle's registration then always read it out for your camera's microphone to record. You can also verbalise the time and a description of the driver ie: sex, ethnicity, age, build, facial features, and clothing. It might also be worth recording any special details details of the vehicle like damage, stickers, badges, internal features. The reason for this is that it may negate someone trying to claim that their registration has been illegally cloned and it couldn't have been their vehicle.

    Something I've learned after owning a dashcam for a few years is to make sure you purchase a high endurance sd card as they are designed to be recorded over, the first one I got was a normal branded card and it lasted around 3 years. Obviously this will need longer if you do less milage

    My missus, Big Mother, has a cam trained on the sofa where I stretch out. If my phone is off, she screeches at me via the Alexxa. It's like that scene form 1984. I get up, drop my trousers and "entertain" her. Problem is, last time I did this, her mates were watching too! One had a stroke. Well, she would have, if she coulda reached.

    Lots of good advice packed into this short video.
    Beware of fake branded sd cards as well which will be as bad as unbranded. Some even state a certain amount of storage but in reality they have far less. So buy from a reputable source/outlet.
    For me, I'd want cloud recording incase my car is stolen and a lens you can turn to face inside my car when parked on my drive in the hope to capture the face of the person stealing it. If you're just after capturing incidents outside the car though, one of these would be good enough.
    There is also collision detection that records footage of someone bumping into your car when you're away from it.

    I worked as a claims handler for aviva and i can tell you now that gps and speed is nearly never useful for a dash cam. People pretty much never argue that an incidant didn't occur where you said it did and the only thing they may argue is that they werent there if you cannot see their number plate clearly in the video. This however is very easy to dispute as insurance companies say that probability dictates that the grey skoda that is in the video that you give is very likely the same grey skoda that you have the number plate for as the chances of you making up a number plate for someone with a grey skoda, while having video footage of that same make and model car is incredibly unlikely. It would never go to court and if it did the other insurers would be laughed at. Dont waste your money of stupid features, the only important things to think about are decent resolution and the ability to have a automatic rolling recording that you can capture when you want

    • @SkillBuilder

      I would like to see a life time ban for anyone caught texting and driving. That is how you stop it. I have seen two people today drifting across lanes and swerving back. I cannot say for sure that they were texting but I would bet money on it. I am a cyclist and the last thing we want is someone knocking us off while they are looking at their phone. Unfortunately it happens.

    • @SkillBuilder
      @SkillBuilder  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Paul I am sorry to say that you are completely wrong. The world has changed and people now deliberately slam on the brakes on an empty road so you hit them up the back. It is a common scam called crash for cash.
      The driver of the vehicle in front suddenly slams their brakes on and you run into the back of it - the driver then insists it's your fault. Some criminals will intentionally disconnect their brake lights so you don't know they're slowing down until it's too late.
      A driver may flash their headlights for you to pull out of a junction or wave you out of a junction, they then fail to let you out and you collide with them - they deny flashing their lights or inviting you to pull out.
      A car is stationary in the middle of a quiet road, often at night, you drive up to it wondering what's going on and stop, the driver of the vehicle then suddenly reverses into you and maintains you drove into them.
      A driver overtakes you and then suddenly swerves in front of you and brakes hard - you collide with the rear of their vehicle and they blame you.
