You can read and write Gameboy, Gameboy Color, and Gameboy Advance games without needing a computer. And, it's almost half the price of other flashers on the market. So, what's the catch?

Recently just got the GBxCart RW but it's always great to see more competition in the space. Funnyplaying makes some really great products I have one of his IPS screens in my gba. Nice video, I like how you showed the competing products. Also pretty neat that's all standalone no pc required

I'm new here but I dig your channel! I've been doing a lot of tinkering, fixing, and upgrading/modding lately (and am fairly new to it) so it's cool to have some online folks who seem to be in a similar place to me in that regard. There's also just so much new cool stuff like this coming out now, it's nice to have a channel releasing occasional videos on this stuff rather than some of the bigger ones who review every single thing.

Since I saw the last video, I picked up a dope Graphite AGS-101 SP, and its pretty great other than the fact that I'm gonna have to open it up and clean the R Button connector. I've been craving playing Mother 3 on OG hardware! These writers seem pretty cool, so keep up the great content Marisa!

I've been wanting to make my own game for ages now, and the idea of being able to then put it onto a physical cart and give it to someone is SO COOL. I can not stop shouting it out. I grew up with one of those "brick game" consoles and it's the closest thing to it haha!
Glad I came across this video it is something that I really need. It got me happy that u got excited because I know that excitement Is great that you can go back and forth or play on original console. but also its pretty cool that I can save my Gameboy color and advance games save file with out having to worry loosing anything its future proof. Just Followed & Subscribed.

I like how the Epilogue GB Operator has Rumble for playing as well. I Dumped my Legend of the River King 2 and ran the ROM through the Gameboy ROM Analyzer for Windows and changed the Cartridge type to 1EH and fixed the header. This enables Rumble that was programmed into the Japanese version and just needs to be opened on the English version. I then Flashed the fixed ROM onto a Geek Tech Batterless Save Flash Cartridge and now I play with Rumble. It may not have a motor but the code is there so it works. I got the ROM to work on the Pow Kiddy V90 with the Pocket Go Firmware Update as well and since the Miyoo Mini Plus has a motor it would probably work on that too after a bit of tinkering. 😊❤

Can you explain more about how rumble is working with the Epilogue GB Operator? Is it the device on your desk that rumbles while it's connected the game to your PC and played via emulator, and/or do the rumble get sent to a connected controller?
Do you happen to know of a GBC Rumble flash cart, to play on the actual console?
I recently got the Inside Gadgets GBA Rumble Flash Cart, as I have read that it's Rumble is more accurate to the real one on Drill Dozer and Wario Ware Twisted compared to the multi-game SD based flash cart, EZ Flash Omega Definitive Edition. There are also a few fan patches to add Rumble to some games, and a few to enable the GameCube Game Boy Player mode Rumble while played on the GBA. The only downsides I've noticed are the one game at a time and that the save chip isn't large enough to support some games, like Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3 and Pokémon, amongst others. And SMA 4: SMB 3 is one of those that supports Game Boy Player Rumble and has a patch.
@@Home_Rowed I am four months late, but it just copies the files and then runs them inside the software with mGBA. It would use your controller rumble in that case.
I don't think there is currently a GBC rumble flashcart (I could be wrong though). The flash cart they're referring to doesn't have a motor, so yeah it wouldn't work for running on a GBC. There is one for the solar sensor on GBA since all the boktai games are like 100 bucks now (especially 3) but I imagine GBC rumble is a lot more niche of a thing. It should work with rumble if run through a GBA flash cart with it though, like the EZFlash Omega DE or a dedicated cart, but in order to do it for a GBC game like the one mentioned, it would run through Goomba, so it would be emulating the game technically, and in my personal experience Goomba isn't that great (but I'm glad it exists for when I use my GB Micro).
It'd be pretty cool if a GBC Rumble flash cart were a thing though. All the carts with rumble I've seen work just like Pokemon Pinball where it just has a battery slot and then a motor in the cart itself.
Personally I have had a few emulation issues with the gb operator (mostly audio and input related, but I have never had these issues on BGB), so its main value to me (play inside the software) over other readers is kinda eh at this point. I own it and the Joey Jr., and the latter has a lot larger cart support and as far as I am aware is the fastest reader/writer you can get. I also like that it uses no software other than applying firmware updates to the device itself, so it's portable to other computers without any setup. I don't have a GBxCart but tbh haven't had a need for one, I kinda feel like the Joey almost never gets mentioned vs the other two but it's simple and has nearly all the power user things you could want that the GBxCart does (and if it doesn't, I have heard the discord is quick to add new compatibility). It also writes to the cartridge once you're done using an emulator so really that functionality is not too far off the operator, the operator I would say mostly just looks nicer.

If the read/writing was faster, and more straight forward like my Joey Jr., I'd be all in. Although, I don't really see the point of a portable flasher since, well, flash carts are a thing. I feel like if you're flashing a cart, you're doing so because you intend to play that cart long term ya know?

Thank you! And I totally agree with you, my use case is so simple that the novelty and cute value of the Burnmaster worked best for me at the lower price tag, but if I ever need to do a more extensive project I'd pick up a Joey for sure.

You convinced me to get one of these and I am so excited to try that Apotris! I love Tetris but I love some of those niceties and I just love playing it for a few minutes. If there is a sudoku one I'd be set :D but I kept all my gameboy advance games and gameboy games so I just bought a GBC as well and I am so stoked for them to hopefully make a GBA kit. If it's solder less that would be better ha ha because I am brand new to all this. I do love the perseveration aspect though as I kept all my original hardware from the Atari days and my dad kept his Commodore 64 so we just hoard and lug all our electronics every time we move ha ha not many times but over nearly 40 years more than you'd expect to ha ha but I'd say a good handful of games I'd actually care to dump and write so I think this would fit well. Surprisingly I don't have a lot to convert in mass but at least two giant boxes worth lol

I just got mine in, it looks great.. that slot cover though, that is hokey. It is less cover than it is a kickstand as there is a bigger uncovered area on the bottom than there is on the top! I do wish it had a larger screen, Funny Playing make all these nice screen but spec 1/4 of a postage stamp for this...
Haha, it is true, it's more a kickstand that happens to get in the way of the slot. I imagine the tiny screen was good for cutting costs though.

I really hope they add an update to this device that lets it auto-detect ROM sizes soon, that's the only thing keeping me from checking it out. As it stands the gbxcart seems like the only way to go if you're ever looking to get into the world of Game Boy Camera flash carts, which is a bit of a shame (on the other hand GBCam flash carts are the coolest thing in the game boy world).
100% - this guy definitely feels like a novelty / toy as it stands. But I'm a sucker for novelty and toys hehe. Fingers crossed FP doesn't forget about it.

These little devices are definitely neat, but being asked what size dump your game is a turn off for me - for this particular device anyway. Jumping online and having to search for that info seems a little counterintuitive to me.

Have you tried flashing pokemon games like Emerald on their Flashcarts? Are they perfectly working?
I tried Sapphire and it played fine, however I did not do a long term test.

this could be cool for people who like emulation but still wanna get/collect original cartridges. get the cartridges, pull the rom from it, put into my rg35xx and then after playing i can get my save into the cartridge. get the benefits of emulation but still get the original games (also the cartridge can stay save at home, since i mostly play outside and am paranoid about losing things or breaking it)

I have a question about the burnmaster and hope to find a cool uncle around able to answer, I was wondering if the burnmaster is able to write saves back to original cartridges, I have some old GBC games that will need a battery change but no reliable way to backup and restore the saves, if this is present have you tested it?
Hey! I tested this just for you with a pokemon game and yes, it was able to do so reliably. If you're attached to the saves I'd also just try the backups in an emulator before doing a battery swap too, just to make sure they ripped correctly. Good luck!

Does this flash cart only hold one game at a time? That's honestly a little appealing to me. I always get lost looking for a game to play on my ezflash omega. So many options... too many options.

I personally like the Epilogue GB Operator. It's a lot easier to use. I don't think the on the go burning would make to many people happy on the other end of things. I use Geek Tech Batterless Save Flash Cartridges and love it. Burn Master not so user friendly. Better know all of the information on the game you want before even trying when using the Burn Master.
Does the flashcart used support rtc?
Hmm I don't think so but maybe someone can correct me. Their GB/GBC flashcart definitely does have RTC though
Do they have a version of this for switch?
Nooo, you'll have to wait many a year for that! There are ways to dump your Switch games and play them on PC, but nothing like this. You'll have to google it as I'm not knowledgeable there.
Hy, burnMaster work on normal (aliexpress) gamecart?
It should work with AliExpress carts. You can check online communities like discord to see which specific ones have been tested, otherwise it can be a guessing game.

Funnyplaying put out a new update that fixes the issues with dumping gba games. If you add the new update plus the gba text file included with the update, gba games work perfectly with it now.

Time to save my extra ruby and sapphire carts with corrupted save files, and archive my long-time save files on my original sapphire and emerald so i can change the clock battery without risk!

couldn't you technically build your own game cardridge or has no one made an open source PCB design? I mean I dont think Nintendo developed their own rom chips and stuff so technically it shouldn't be too hard to reverse engineer how the PCB works and then make sort of replacements for them

@@yourcoolunclemarisa there's just always been issues with making sure edges are beveled from a lot of places.
I would imagine Funny Playing wouldn't cheap out on developing proper carts, but at the same time to assume anything is to make an ass of you and me.
