    Good looking truck and a realistic, all you need and nothing you don't approach to getting out there. So many guys are just out building vehicles to give the appearance they overland. Sort of like the overlanding look is the new version of the lowered custom truck or the crazy painted show car thing. In reality you really don't need much to get to most of the places you really want to go. Thanks for showing actual budget rides rather than saying it's a budget ride when in reality it's still $60,000 but, you know, compared to a $180,000 dollar Winnebago Revel it's a bargain, right? Not!

    • @208Tyler
      @208Tyler  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutley! If all it costs to get out is a tank of gas and a $5k rig, then that’s all it takes. You can go higher or lower, but I really like rides like these. 4WD HI/LO, reliable, and a solid rear axle is about all you need. Keeping it simple is the best, more mods usually makes more problems

    Ive got the same exact spring set up on my 02 LE. I have nothing but good things to say about the dobinsons. They’re nice and tough but still ride smooth. Also offer the perfect amount of lift for what I was looking for. I might have gone with 9449’s in the back though if I did it all over again. No regrets though.

    Lucky you are in Oregon. In the Midwest they rust out under the fender flares and especially around the fuel nozzle.

  • @ztwntyn8

    Cool I just got an 04 LE all stock and has such a great ride I hate to switch springs but I hate more so having a lift from spacers instead of from springs so I may stay low and do what I have to for 31” to fit for now. It seems like it would need lower gears for 33” in my opinion. Wish it had the power of my 04 maxima lol

    • @208Tyler
      @208Tyler  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      OME makes a mild suspension setup that would help fit 31's.
      You can swap in 4.6 gears, I have videos detailing that and have done the swap myself.
      Your 04 does happen to have the same exact engine as the maxima, just in a heavier vehicle with bigger tires. It's one of the reasons I recommend keeping your tire setup as light as you can.

    That is one great looking rig! Japan know how to make great off roaders, both in looks and capability!
    Put a limited slip diff front and rear and that would give you a tremendous boost off road without the need to mess with lockers!

    • @208Tyler

    hi Tyler, I am in the process of renovating my 2003 r50 SE 3500 Patfinder, I would like to slightly modify the suspension and I am asking you for a prophecy because your pathfinder project is an inspiration for me. I'd like to raise the suspension so I can fit 26/70 / R17 tires. I would like my modification not to worsen the driving characteristics on the roads and at the same time that I would not have to cut the wheel arches. Could you suggest me what set of springs and shock absorbers or spacers or modifications to the front and rear would be optimal in your opinion? I note that the car would not be used in very difficult terrain. Thanks for your helping ;)

    Hey Tyler, thats a nice looking R50, i got the same but 2005 and stock, i have a similar tyre carrier but i was wondering if you have any experiences with the Airlift Kit made especially for the R50 Platform, maybe a future video on installing or pros and cons, because when it comes to budget is really affordable!,

    • @208Tyler
      @208Tyler  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No experience with the airlift kit.
      If you get into a spring like the NRC 9449, you probably wouldn’t even need airlift springs unless you do super heavy towing maybe. I can’t imagine that airlifts are more time/cost effective than just getting a good pair of springs.
      Sumo load helpers also have an application, as seen on R50 here: th-cam.com/video/u49_la1oz94/w-d-xo.html
      But, my bottom line would be to get some 9449’s if you haven’t already. This pathfinder has had zero issues with load handling thanks to the heavier duty springs.

    I have a question. I have my eyes a couple 2002 Pathfinders for sale but both have some issues. One has an issue where it won't go into reverse or something like that and the other has a head gasket issue. I'm currently in the market for a 2nd vehcile or winter beater,not looking to spend to much and prefer a truck/suv and these 2 caught my eye. Are these two issues common on this platform or are they just not worth the risk?

    • @208Tyler
      @208Tyler  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a large tire size for just a spacer lift, about 32.7 inches. tall You will need 3.75" backspacing from either using aftermarket wheels or wheel spacers. After that, you will have to trim a lot. I only ran 32" tries on my 2" spring lift. I would go for something around 31-32 inches tall. If your tire is 31" or shorter you will not need to go to 3.75 backspacing. The problem is taller tires contact the strut perch if they don't have that 3.75 backspacing. Check out this video for more info on tire sizes: th-cam.com/video/LwT4qx3RK9o/w-d-xo.html and then use this website to compare tire sizes: tiresize.com/chart/

      Hey Daniel - I’m the owner. I think the most useful thing is the tires - I noticed an immediate difference in traction both in the dirt and snow when I made the upgrade. For my near future plans I’m looking at Sumo springs bump stops (I found out that my rear tires rub on the flares under flex on this trip with Tyler), and protection (SF Creation skid plates and possibly sliders). Distant future plans may be lockers (Front Lokka, maybe air/e-locker for the rear?), maybe a steel front bumper (to minimize rub, help with approach angle & to have recovery points in the front), off-road lighting etc.

      @@208Tyler why wouldnt you recommend it? Thanks for answering all my questions btw

      It will be very difficult to get the right backspacing. Generally a 15x8 or a 16x8 with a small spacer will be the easiest way to get onto 3.75 backspacing and 32’s

    Hey everyone, so I just got an 04 Nissan Pathfinder SE stock. I’m planning to upgrade wheels and tires. Anyone know if this set up will fit the stock car/suspension without any modifications or wheel spacers to the car. I have 2 sets of wheels and tires that I’m thinking of getting. I’m ok with any combination if they will fit. Thanks 🙏
    Tires: Toyo Open country A/T III
    1. 255/70R 16 Diameter 30.1 Width 10.2
    2. 265/70R 16 Diameter 30.6 Width 10.7
    Wheels: 1. Vision soft 8 16x8 offset -12
    2. AR172 BAJA 16x8 offset 0

      The 25570/16 on the 16x8 0 offset is your best bet. 31’s on stock wheels might work, the 30.6 on the -12 would probably be the tightest fit and most likely to rub

    Sometimes the offset does the magic. I wondet what the offset is in those wheels🤔?

      If you know the backspacing and wheel width, you know the offset…. It’s very simple math.
      An 8” wide wheel with 3.75 backspacing will have a negative 19mm offset. A wheel of any other width will need a different offset to achieve the same backspace. That’s why offset is not used as the “go to” measurement for wheel fitment on R50’s- you need backspacing

    So much into the car and then you wonder the health of the driver etc, Are they going to last as long as the SUV. A 50 mile safe hike without a bear attack is possible in some places. Why people go offeroad and lug 400 pounds of gear to live easy. Seems like an air drop of supplies might even be cheaper. Forrest Gump went all across America with just running gear and a hat.

      Some people enjoy vehicle based travel as a hobby and a fun problem to solve. Others waste time talking about Forrest Gump as if he’s a real person.

      I'm the owner of the vehicle in this video. Two points. 1. I just did a 96 mile backpacking trip this summer in the Scottish Highlands so no need to worry about my health... 2. - this entire vehicle including the modifications was well under $10k (probably around $8k including the cost of the vehicle). I have to wonder about your mental health if you have nothing better to do with your than disparaging other people when you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about....
