Eagle Attacks Hiker -

  • The following occurred in early September, Norway:
The hiker was just about to take a breath on the ground, when he was attacked from behind by the juveniles. Experts believe the bird has strayed from its mates and sought contact.
Hiker and photographer Svein Roger Ivarsen from Molde had a nature experience completely out of the ordinary last weekend when he was at the cabin near Dovre.
He was sitting alone on a mountaintop in Grimsdalen when he suddenly felt a hard thump in the back of his head. When he turned around, he stared straight into the eye of the youth who is probably behind the attacks on several people recently.
    - She hit me in the middle of the body so I lost my balance and fell down a slope, while the mobile flew through the air, says Ivarsen about the spectacular meeting with the young bird.
He understood it was serious, and partially hid his head under a rucksack, where he managed to film parts of the attack.
Here you can clearly see that the golden eagle is attacking the hiker, who in vain pushes and hugs the big bird.
Ivarsen says the golden eagle had large, sharp claws, a needle-pointed beak and a wingspan of two metres.
I don't think the eagles will attack
Ornithologist and white-tailed eagle expert Alv Ottar Folkestad is sure that the eagles have gotten away from their parents, and have tried to find the parents.
Although it looks fierce on the video, he believes that the eagle is not aggressive and does not actually attack.
    - She doesn't seem aggressive. She holds her wings close to her body. A little further into the video, you can also hear her making squeaking noises, something children do when they want to have contact with their parents, he says.
Folkestad is part of Birdlife Norway and has seen the video from Dovre.
He states that the young bird has moved north from Folgefonna, where the eagle first struck. In recent days, Folkestad has received reports of a total of 11 attacks.
After studying the recent video of the eagle attack, the eagle expert states that the bird must have been in captivity and had close contact with humans before.
He believes that explains the way the eagle has behaved.
    - The video tells me that she has a positive relationship with people. She tries to get closer in several ways.
Folkestad has also discussed the matter with others in the community, and says they agree with him.
    - We can say with reasonable certainty that it is a youngster who has been raised by humans and who in one way or another has gotten free, he asserts.
    Fantastic nature experience
The hiker from Molde thinks he was lucky to escape the encounter with the eagle without major injuries. He thinks the close contact was a great natural experience - even if it was a little scary.
    - After the last attack, the eagle sat on top again and looked quite calm, shook its feathers and settled down. I approached carefully and managed to take a few close-up photos before she took off and disappeared over the mountain home, says Ivarsen.
    - It seems almost absurd to see it afterwards. When everything went well, I must also say that it was an experience to come so close to a golden eagle.

I see you attacking the eagle more than it attacking you

@@dirgsuite5546 Yeah. The guy was defending himself, and doing a good job at that honestly.
Also kinda strange that he's saying 'you' .. it wasn't ME, something that's apparent for anyone who actually read the description :)

@dirgsuite5546 did you watch the first half of the video of the hiker repeatedly kicking at the eagle when the eagle isn't being aggressive. It started dive bombing the hiker in the second half, probably because some random guy was kicking it in its own territory. As a species, we need to stop acting like we own every inch of this world. Animals are not the aggressor when we wander into their space and they defend it.

@@firenave1 There's a bit more to the story than that sir. I suggest you read the article. Also please consider the simple fact that this is a strong and ferocious animal, ANYONE would react in some way or another - sure, if the person in the video was like an EXPERT on eagles or something, perhaps he could've handled it differently but this is something that happened in the heat of the moment and honestly I don't understand how you could blame the guy, he's not at fault here at all.

Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act
This act prohibits disturbing eagles, which is defined as "agitating or bothering a bald or golden eagle to a degree that causes, or is likely to cause, injury to an eagle". The act also prohibits the possession, sale, purchase, or transportation of eagles, or any part of them. Violators may be fined up to $250,000 or imprisoned for up to two years.

What do you mean 'YOU' .. if you had bothered to read the description you'd see that this clearly isn't the case.
Also, that's kinda nonsense dude because the guy was CLEARLY just defending himself and doing a pretty good job at that.

@@dirgsuite5546 Yep, some strange comments here. First of all assuming that this is in the US (typical American chauvinism honestly, nothing new there), secondly not realizing that the guy was OBVIOUSLY just defending himself.- Heck, even if it was a cute fluffy mega endangered and protected panda he'd have every right to do that. And then there's the fact that the person in the video clearly isn't ME, something that's also kinda obvious for anyone actually bothering to read the description.
