Unsure if hax responds to comments but it's worth a try: I believe you mentioned software standardization in the video so this brings up a question: How do we ensure that people don't mod the boxx or similar controllers so that they can hit the perfect angles that could give unfair advantages? Software does indeed seem to be the solution, but it still presents an issue with enforcing the standardized programming. The thing that comes to mind for me when the community talks about any forms of improvement to melee and its coding is the incident during which a player changed the coding of 20XX to benefit his character. With box controllers this could be even harder to regulate due to the potential issue lying in the controllers themselves, rather than setups, which can be tested by TOs, etc. since they have direct access to them. Do we force players to have their boxx checked by TOs before playing?
Hax nerfed the controller not by adding inconsistencies, but by removing certain functions entirely. If the player hits the perfect wavedash angle then the VOD will be evidence they are cheating. Get caught once and you face a ban.
There's a difference between astonishments and accomplishments; I think you've had you're part in both of this, but the latter is what I think of this. Happy Holidays.

The technology is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical Melee most of the ergonomics will go over a typical player’s head. There’s also Hax’s optimistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Magus literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of this controller, to realise that it's not just ergonomic- it says something deep about the meta. As a consequence people who dislike the B0XX truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn’t appreciate, for instance, the button placement, which itself is a cryptic reference to Fox's reign in 20XX. I’m smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Hax's genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools... How I pity them.
If the b0xx is legalized Melee changes forever. Every player will be given the opportunity to expand the metagame exponentially. Picture a rising line on a graph that measures skill. at some point that line must plateau. we know that it must because there is a physical limit to what players can execute with the GameCube controller input method. An alternate input method, that is not only optimized for the game, but also for any specific character in the game, is enough to break the dam wide open. It inevitably pushes the game into territory unseen. It will change how players play, think, what the game looks like in motion. it's not an understatement to say that the b0xx will be able to tear the future of Melee from whatever path it was on and cast it where there are unpredictable surprises waiting at the end. Possibly a landmark moment in the history of Melee.

For the dash test - why would you not have your finger right on the b0xx buttons at all times? Otherwise i agree with everything and believe, that this is a fair controller.
I don't know if it's the same for you, but when I play computer games, it happens with me too. At first my fingers rest on the WASD keys, but when I'm holding D strafe, the finger on A tends to "hover somewhat" That's my take on it anyways
Antic Kev the only game i play is melee so im not sure. I cant imagine ever taking my finger off of right above it. Ill have to hold a b0xx myself to see what id naturally do. Bit even if it was natural, id try to make it a habit to rest right on the keys, like i do on gc controller right now.
If you've ever touched a fighstick you'll quickly realize it's not possible to lay your fingers on the buttons like you can a controller/keyboard. The buttons are *very* sensitive because of the time it takes for a button depression, thus the sensitivity is meant to make up for the travel time. This means you can't lay your fingers on the buttons.
Who would've thought that such elaborate thought would go in to a simple Nintendo game. Great design Hax, I can't wait to get my hands on this bad boy.

It feels like large parts of the smash community just fear change. Why hold the game back by technical limitations? I watched a lot of pro ban arguments and honestly I didn't find a single good one. They're all terrible arguments that stem from fear of change.
I appreciate the extremely dedicate work that you have done Hax! However, I do think that some of these nerfs are a bit excessive, for example the neutral b, side b nerf for the box. Imo, the box should have advantages to the game cube controller. But props to you for the extreme testing and the amount of thought put into this video. With this, the b0xx should be completely legal now. :)
Oh interesting about the pivotting. With my controller I empty pivot by letting go after going into quarter circle. So like a mix between flicker pivot and quarter circle pivot tilts. Maybe it works better for me because the controller has slight snapback issues and the deadzone is larger diagonally. Regardless it's still slower, and then you have to go into tilt range afterwards anyways.

to be quite honest, i dont have a problem with new controllers dominating the meta. i like the effort hax has put into the boxx, but i think allowing custom controllers like the rest of the fgc does is fine. we already go out of our way to purchase gcc, and to find perfect ones and to notch them etc, i think that creating super technical and ridiculous controllers will only add to the optimization of melee
I still think the sheer number of options that comes with a control stick will beat out digital buttons in the long run. The digital buttons limit micro-spacing quite a bit. This controller is balanced and should be legalized soon

When can I buy one? Or is it possible to get blue prints of some kind? I have access to several arduinos/raspberry pi's as well as 3d printers and a laser cutter. With a couple buttons I could rebuild my own. Is this a possibility?
I agree with everything except the 1.0 movement. Its much easier to fix the b0xx and give it 0.9875 since the vast majority of controllers cannot even reach 1.0. I've owned 4 controllers and not one of them has 1.0. I don't see why the b0xx is banned but haxx is working hella hard and I doubt anyone will get into Top 100 with a b0xx other than Haxx for a very long time considering he already has years of experience harnessing his neutral.
I fully agree and vote for the acceptance of the (smash)Boxx (and UFC for that regard, but fuck the replay's of games due to setup-check f*ck-ups), but to come back to the location of the C stick tho, how about the XBOX (r) stick? I’m pro legalization of the b0xx after this video, almost. The device itself is def okay in my eyes and Hax was thorough with his explanations. Can I put digital to analog buttons on a gamecube controller, though? Would we have to decide that a controller can either only have analog stick values on the control sticks? What would be the flaws in that rule?
I have a question. I feel like if there was an analog stick like other fight sticks, it would be fine plus for a controller like this I think it would not make sense, but be accesible to other FG players. So what influenced the decision to have buttons for directions, rather than a stick?
What's the exact mechanism that stops people from using ideal values on the b0xx currently? Maybe some form of identification could be implemented on UCF as well so if it detects different values on a b0xx controller it would let players know? I dunno.

When can I buy one? Or is it possible to get blue prints of some kind? I have access to several arduinos/raspberry pi's as well as 3d printers and a laser cutter. With a couple buttons I could rebuild my own. Is this a possibility?
I agree with everything except the 1.0 movement. Its much easier to fix the b0xx and give it 0.9875 since the vast majority of controllers cannot even reach 1.0. I've owned 4 controllers and not one of them has 1.0. I don't see why the b0xx is banned but haxx is working hella hard and I doubt anyone will get into Top 100 with a b0xx other than Haxx for a very long time considering he already has years of experience harnessing his neutral.

I fully agree and vote for the acceptance of the (smash)Boxx (and UFC for that regard, but fuck the replay's of games due to setup-check f*ck-ups), but to come back to the location of the C stick tho, how about the XBOX (r) stick? Is this not similar if not (in relevance to size compromise) to the XBOX(360) controller? Not to de-bunk the argument or video at all! Just an observation I would like to share. Go Hax$! Dominate with fox, style with C.Falcon ^^. And don;t forget tot L+R+A+STRT when you picked anyone except FOX xD.

Can I put digital to analog buttons on a gamecube controller, though? Would we have to decide that a controller can either only have analog stick values on the control sticks? What would be the flaws in that rule?

I have a question. I feel like if there was an analog stick like other fight sticks, it would be fine plus for a controller like this I think it would not make sense, but be accesible to other FG players. So what influenced the decision to have buttons for directions, rather than a stick?

What's the exact mechanism that stops people from using ideal values on the b0xx currently? Maybe some form of identification could be implemented on UCF as well so if it detects different values on a b0xx controller it would let players know? I dunno.
