You kept saying "Pasack Valley" and even showed it on the screen, but it's Pascack. Anyway, I live along the Atlantic City Line, about 10 miles west of the Parkway. It would be nice if the Coast Line went all the way to Cape May. It could run along the Parkway. That would make it a nice easy trip to NYC by train. Right now I think one would have to take the Atlantic City Line out, and then go up to the Northeast Corridor Line, and go from there. That would be a lot of extra miles, and extra time. So we just drive if we want to go to New York. It would be nice to be able to go to and from anywhere along the coast by train. Thanks for the overview.

The Main Line is a combination of the former Lackawanna Main Line & Erie Main Line. The Erie Main Line ran through Rutherford into downtown Passaic into Paterson. The Lackawanna Main Line ran through Lyndhurst into Passaic Park to Paterson. This changed in the early 1960s with the merger of Erie & Lackawanna and the closure Erie line through downtown Passaic and the closure of the Lackawanna line for the construction of Interstate 80.

Excellent job!!!! It’s The Pascack Valley Line. It travels from Hoboken to Spring Valley, NY. It’s mostly single track when it branches off to the North at The Meadowlands. It is a diesel operated line, and is the least travelled on NJT

dude, the PVL is my local line and it never makes sense to take it during the off-peak or non-peak direction. the trains run so infrequently and move very slowly between stations. in fact according to Google Maps, from my local station (Anderson St.) it is usually faster to just take the bus and subway to PABT or Penn Station. this is not to mention that I live about 2 miles away from the station. The only time I would argue it might be faster is during rush hour in the peak direction because the highways are backed up and the trains run slightly more frequently. my suggestion is that NJT turns it into a bus rapid transit line which would increase ridership, but even this might not be possible due to the width or the right of way.

Agggh! Your otherwise excellent review of NJ Transit uses the term "Commuter Rail," which at best is a limited description and, at worst, gives aid and comfort to those opposed to public transportation in New Jersey.
Yes, I know NJ Transit carries "commuters," but it also carries people like me, who use the rails for beaucoup other purposes. Call it a "regional" railroad or maybe even a "statewide" railroad. Calling it a "commuter railroad" is a straight-out pejorative, akin to "MASS transit."
Overreacting? Given 40 years of railroad advocacy in New Jersey, I'd respectfully beg to differ. We tried to get the Pascack Valley Line -- at the time, a truly "commuter" rail service, I'll grant -- double-tracked throughout its New Jersey stretch to provide two-way, seven-day service. One Assemblywoman from Montvale, opposed to any expansion, freely used "commuters" interchangeably with "those people." And that's just one example.
New Jersey Transit serves commuters, fair enough. Commuters still account for the majority of rail riders, also (sadly) a given. But it is not, nor should it aim to be, a "Commuter Railroad." You do public transit an injustice.

Totally get it! The name of anything can really change what people think of, so I totally understand you. And that's very true that only a portion of people actually use it to commute. Sorry about that one but don't worry, I totally get your frustrations 👍

Best of luck with the advocacy, got involved with advocating for bike infrastructure at my town and county level about 1 year ago and having train more train infrastructure for non-commuting transportation needs would be huge.

@@DTransit liking this content, idk what your long term plans are with this channel, whether its simply a focus on history/reporting on future plans associated with NJ transit and/or other transit projects but something I think a lot of people are hungry for is tools for getting involved. My personal suggestion would be to try out some videos highlighting either how some transit lines got added in the first place (as in, the political/advocacy side of it), and/or highlighting future plans that need attention in order to gain traction.
Just my 2 cents as someone who has consumed a lot of youtube urbanist content and has now started translating what I've learned about transit into advocacy at the local level.

But, just to help Pascack which is the name of the branch line is pronounced Pas kak as opposed to Passaic which is Pa sa ic. Lot of dutch and indian (Lenape) imported words. But good job , thank you.

If you live along the rvl Plainfield you can either drive to I-78 Exit 45 Morris & Essex lines Summit or CR-529 Washington Ave Stelton RD to Edison. In the case of Easton, PA exits 17-18 High Bridge/Annandale the drawback of RVL is weekends only to Newark from Raritan they should be doing it from High Bridge when needed. Weekday off peak RVL has NYC Trips. If you compare a Morris & Essex line Electric to the Newark Division electric trains the M&E trains still has room to spare on the longer Newark Division electric lines but run a standard length NEC Newark Division electric trains on Hoboken Division lines electric territory 25kv 60hz since 1984 you will not fit on the platform since they were meant for short length EMUs not the longer length NEC lines
