Hi Gabriel! Nice to see Panama! My father was stationed in Panama in World War ll . He was sick with yellow fever and was sent home. He was 19 at the time and was very sick. He lost most of his hair and it never came back. When he was well again he went right back to the Army Air Core.. My daddy was a tough man. I respected and loved him so much.. Thank you again Gabriel. Hope you have a nice evening. Take care!🍃😁🍃
I am a "Canal Zone Brat". Great grandfather went there in 1913 as a telegraph man on the rail road during final stages of construction. He was awarded a Roosevelt Medal for his service. My mom was born there, and my father went in 1952 and worked at Mira Flores locks as a locomotive operator. One of my uncles ran the rail road and another was in charge of Pier 18. This is where I grew up and I am glad I got to see this video. I remember riding the Diablo Rojo ( Red Devil) busses, hanging out on the causeway, and we went to Tacoma all the time. What a wonderful growing up I had. I am rooted in the desert southwest now. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you very much Gabe for coming to my country 🇵🇦and being able to see it from the perspective of your channel. I hope you have been to your liking and that it is on the list of your favorite destinations. Once again, thank you so much.
Aawww!!! You finally made it to Panama!!! I know this was just a quick stop. But you most definitely need to come back and explore more of it. Specially during the summer or dry season, between late December and early April. You will love to visit Bocas De El Toro in the Atlantic side, go hiking in the mountains of Chiriqui province in the border with Costa Rica. Go swimming in the waterfalls of hillside country of Penonome (Pozo Azul and Ta Vida. Beautiful!!!! Just to mention a few). And yes!! San Blass islands are a most!!! I am planning to go next year sometime in March. Also, whenever you decide to go back, I have family in the country side that could accommodate your stay. They are retired from the US and now live in Panama own a really nice place on the foothills of Penonome province about 2 hours north of Panama City.
Yeah I know there's a whole lot to see here. I follow Jackson Groves on instagram who spent three months in Panama and posted a lot of cool pics and videos of waterfalls and beaches, etc.
Thanks Gabriel, this was interesting and informative. Your game is really improving. I enjoy the chats with cab drivers, they seem to know everything. Curious fact about the canal: When you travel from the Atlantic to the Pacific, you end up further east than where you started.
That ship in the lock is the Pacific Princess which is the original Love Boat. They actually filmed ship exterior and outside deck scenes on that boat.
@@angelg.8462 I used to love that show. Just think of all the forgettable, mediocre actors from the 70s who stood on the deck of that boat and recited poorly written dialogue. Those were the good old days.
Since I was a kid I thought PANAMA was part of Puerto Rico! lol! I can see why now.. It looks alot like Puerto Rico in many ways. Nice to know if God forbid i should not be able to return to PR, I can go to Panama and feel at home. The music, the people, the architecture and food, reminds me of home. I also found out a long time ago by accident, that Reggaeton Music(Plena in PANAMA)was on radio stations and clubs out in the open in PANAMA before it became popular in Puerto Rico where it was still underground and not popular. I met a lady from Panama in church. Sadly, we were from two very different time periods and we missed the BOAT as it were for a relationship.. When I hear of Panama, I think of Isabel.. what a woman! Viva PANAMA! Y VIVA PUERTO RICO!!!!!!!!
Martyrs' Day (Spanish: Día de los Mártires) is a Panamanian day of national mourning which commemorates the January 9, 1964 anti-American riots over sovereignty of the Panama Canal Zone. The riot started after a Panamanian flag was torn and Panamanian students were killed during a conflict with Canal Zone Police officers and Canal Zone residents. It is also known as the Flag Incident or Flag Protests. U.S. Army units became involved in suppressing the violence after Canal Zone police were overwhelmed, and after three days of fighting, about 22 Panamanians and four U.S. soldiers were killed. The incident is considered to be a significant factor in the U.S. decision to transfer control of the Canal Zone to Panama through the 1977 Torrijos-Carter Treaties. In January 1963, U.S. President John F. Kennedy agreed to fly Panama's flag alongside the U.S. flag at all non-military sites in the Canal Zone where the U.S. flag was flown. However, Kennedy was assassinated before his orders were carried out. One month after Kennedy's death, Panama Canal Zone Governor Robert J. Fleming, Jr. issued a decree limiting Kennedy's order. The U.S. flag would no longer be flown outside Canal Zone schools, police stations, post offices or other civilian locations where it had been flown, but Panama's flag would not be flown either. The governor's order infuriated many Zonians, who interpreted it as a U.S. renunciation of sovereignty over the Canal Zone.
Very wise to have a tour guide that can show you around in such short time! $80.00 well spent. My grandfather was in the US 65th Infantry regiment and was stationed in Panama in 1944.
This is so cool I just watched your Montreal video which is where I was born and currently live but my parents are from Panama and I got to live there a couple years too! Awesome video
Nice video Gabriel... Shame about the weather (Rain). It's amazing how ships are raised and lowered again thru the canal.. I cruised the Suez Canal in 2017.. Took around 8-10hrs as well, but it was just slow sailing the entire trip no lowering or raising of ships there.. Safe Travels.. :)
Hello Gabe, I'd like to see you to go into the jungle in Central America or the Amazon in South America. Should be awesome. I'm going to visit the Ecuadorian Amazon in December.
Good video but a small correction, the new convention center at the causeway you drove by, you tell the tour guide that it is the biggest convention center in all of Latin America, not just Central America 🥂
Hi Gabriel, Interesting conversation about the canal another very little unknown factor is Quinine tonic water which was a determining factor against malaria without it may have not been possible who knows how many countless lives it saved.
Very educational video. I have been through the locks several times on cruise ships, but your video was much more informative. Are you going to take the train from one coast to the other? It is a very interesting jungle trip.
I'm sure it's possible. If they could build the Panama canal they could build a road to Colombia. So you're probably right, there isn't a strong enough advantage to do it. Considering that they were a part of Colombia before, maybe they don't really want to create an easier access between the two countries? Not having a road there might be better for asserting their independence. Also there could be issues of encroaching on tribal groups in the area as well as the gangs and rebels, etc. It would be dangerous, costly, environmentally damaging and anger the people who live in the area.
Infinity cruise ship through Celebrity Cruise Line I've always felt is the best cruise ship to take through the Panama Canal and if you plan it right you can do a back-to-back Cruise Fort Lauderdale to California California back to Fort Lauderdale 1 months at sea normally it's only a 15 day cruise but if you book it back to back you can turn it into a 30 day cruise especially works good for people that live in Florida they don't have to fly anywhere also it's nice to take a cruise to California stay in California for a week 2 weeks and then take that same Cruise Line back to Florida
Very interesting! Gabriel why do you keep such a fast pace when traveling? I can’t know for sure but it seems like you barely have time to enjoy each location? I realize you’re creating vlogs but I thought part of the whole lifestyle is to really have a great time and relax as well as create passive income?
My former home! I lived on ancon hill, the hill with the Panama flag on the top, overlooking 4th of July avenue. The city was about a tenth of the size back then. I see you didn't like the chicarron (the fried pork dish). I though George Gorgas discovered that malaria was transmitted by mosquito? He definitely eradicated it when the Americans built the Canal that doomed the French.
At 12:45 when you said the name of the first island you pronounced "Tobago" which I'm sure you know, while what we see written on the promo picture is "Taboga". But don't mind me.
