Kudos to your dad, putting up with being sprayed with the hose, top of hat being painted black, being hit in the back with lumber cutoffs. Looking good
That came up really great, awesome work. This is one of my favorite generations of the Ford truck. My grandfather had a '66 F100. It was a darker green with matching white and green interior. I loved that truck, it was so cool. We would go joy riding a lot, it was so much fun, thank you for this. I know there are more videos on this truck, I'll have to go back and catch up.
For Rusty vehicles.... the best thing I found to remove rust off of vehicles before clear coating or anything is a product called 'Dr. X' rust remover. It does an amazing job and is very easy to use and safe. Great truck and good luck with your build!!!!!
I like how you time lapse your videos, we still get to see the process and it’s not boring watching it! Appreciate that! I worked as a welder/Pipefitter/fabricator in a machine shop for 37 years! It’s good to have a machinist like your dad working with you! I didn’t know if you do any welding! I’ve just started watching your videos!
I’ve been restoring the exact same truck now for 1 1/2 years. What a pain in the rear it has been. There isn’t a panel on the truck that I haven’t had to make patch panels for. All around the rear window was completely rotted to where the rear glass was holding on by 1 corner. The roof was rotted from 1 side of the rear of the door all the way across the front and then to the back of the other rear door. Putting it back together now. Will be thankful when it is done.
Back in the day the upside down 3-4 were common on heavy duty transmissions up through class 8 trucks. I used to have a 66 f-100 that had so many color changes that every spot where the paint had worn thin it changed color and when those places wore thru they changed colors again. It lent so much to the character of the truck I didn't paint the truck the 14 years I owned it. The first time my 5 year old saw it she instantly named it spot. I don't know how many colors the body had but the dash had 5. LOL
Sounds terrific! Got a little bit of an exaust leak but easy to fix. Sounds like its geared really low too. Depending on what you need it for another 9 inch rear end or a ring and pinion swap may help it. Great job getting it back on the road! 😁
Thanks! Yeah not much gasket left lol you could tell it was that way a long time before it was parked 😅 just need to get a new manifold and gaskets, she’ll be good to go 🙂 yeah may want some different gearing down the road!
Cool Truck. The weird shift pattern is probably the 3-4 shift arm on the side of the trans is installed backwards. Don't forget about the tin foil that's in the fuse block. Have fun!
I really like the truck! It looks and sounds great, and I like that you are bringing it back stock, the 4.9 is a great engine. I have had three trucks with the 4.9, and I loved them all! Thanks for sharing!
Get some LED Semi truck tail lights. They make a brackets that will bolt on the frame or bed. That way people will see your brake lights. Also when Ford made that truck the frame was painted. Frame paint on old cars and trucks is one of the first things gone.
I always use dielectric grease on my connectors that are in the weather. Easy to disconnect and keeps the corrosion down. Great save! I have a 1956 f3 I’m working on to do the same
With that Shifter pattern, that definitely is a New Process NP541 5spd transmission. You are actually starting in 2nd gear. 1st is to the far right and down under reverse. It's a non synchronized 1st gear transmission. You may have to slightly let out on the clutch some to get it to go in to 1st gear.
Well that makes since why I couldn’t get going in what I thought was second! I’ll try and get her to drop over in first today! Thank you so much for the info!
Sweet! Nice job on the deck (damn, your Dad's an animal with the skill saw, nice work). Yeah when you get a chance drop the transmission out of her and give it a good end to end rebuild and you won't be disappointed, those transmissions were built to "work" and will handle everything you can throw at them. I would suggest when your at it, to run some seven conductor trailer cable (straight run hood to tail) to the back for your trailer connection and to the feeds from under the hood that way your connections will be clean and dry with no junctions to go bad down the road. Cab turned out nice with the TLC and a bit of wax. Amazing what a little elbow grease and determination can do. Now just some lights, cab markers and some deck markers and your well on your way. Between you me and the internet, toss a night switch on your battery some place where you can "shut it down" at night to keep it "your truck" not someone else's.. Cheers and Good Job! P.S. Yup just Subscribed!
Liking this. Maybe clear coat the whole thing to keep it from rusting any more. Tackle the oil leak. Maybe adjust the valves while you have the cover off. My dad had a 1967 F-100 the same color, 5-speed with a granny gear. Lot of memories and miles in that truck (a good number of those miles were riding in the bed too!).
I have a question. Do you get titles for all these vehicles you and your dad rescue? How do you get a title if someone gives you a car but has lost or never had the title?
The Frames of these truck's was Painted from the Factory. I bought a bunch of them since the early 60's and though the 80's and they were All Painted. And the Paint on the Cab's used to shine quite well also they didn't come out Flat looking at all.
Frank Irwin I will! 🙂 I think I’m going to put a ridgid style box up at the cab to keep anything from hitting it. I’m still unsure though, I definitely don’t want to mess the cab up but I don’t want to hide it!
Well for a poor boy build, it's not bad. Real fuel tank, a tool box on the side a aluminum headache rack and about six inch high side racks with extension pockets on the sides of the rails in case you need them in the future. I would brace the headache rack from the bottom because its irritating to work over the side of braces. I would build a solid mount box in the back for a good winch and I would invest in some short pieces of chain with a hook on the end (1) each chain then mount winch removable in that box and learn how to winch from the side of the bed to move load closer. The winch line would clear trailer and hook the thing going on trailer and if it pulls hard then put a block in the bite and double the pulling power. Winches are fickle. They use a lot of juice and get hot so very heavy leads to winch for power. (Old welding leads make the best). PUT A MICRO LOCK on the brakes so you don't set in cab holding brake pedal. very easy mount to dash and step on brake then lift the lever or you can get the expensive one(electric) and mount the micro anywhere. Remember to put a coil in the brake line or flex will break it. Make sure to shrink wrap all electrical connections. It will bite you. I did it to all my wreckers (10 - 15 ) at all times and all kinds of weather. When you have some kind of tow rig, you have more friends... more friends than ever before/LOL.
I love that truck, seems like plenty power! I was just thinking about clear coating it like it is! Kinda look like a rat rod truck except not cut down like those on tv! And with the rust color and green! Bad to the bone! lol 👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Fantastic ole Truck!! Try using Boiled Linseed Oil on the paint. I see a lot of folks use it on there trucks that have that great patina. The paint is the best part about your truck!! Keep em on the road!!
Love everything about this truck! I-6. That fender has a similar style to a truck I'm trying to hunt down a 61 IH C1300 that was on the family farm for years...and the color of this very similar to that truck. Really nice patina. The CLR did look like it worked alright.
Nice truck! I run a 72 f350 with a 300. One trick is to install rocker arms off a chevy 230 six. They have a more aggressive ratio and fit perfect. Helps mid range and top end.
I like using the rustoleum rusty metal primer and paint, you can buy it in the gallon and roll or paint it on with a brush, it's a lot cheaper than spray cans and goes on thicker, the foam rollers lays it on nice
I love those old trucks. Hope you continue to build it. Be cool with that header to run duals. Those engines sound great with dual exhuast. Possibly stacks lol.
Neat project, nice work too, fun to watch. A (5) fuse box, I love it! U might want to cut the rear end cap off the old long flatbed & weld it back on to Ur shortened version. Keep the tank where Ford wanted it. Thank you 4 the vid & cool how U get by on the cheap.
First gear in those trucks are a "granny" gear. That's why second doesn't have synchros. You're supposed to start in second if you're not pulling any sort of weight
Most every granny I’ve had a started in second...this one won’t let me lol it’s too high of a gear 🤷♂️ maybe as she breaks back in a little and the truck smooths out it’ll be more content on pulling off in second. It has surprisingly high gears after granny.
With wiring on older vehicles such as this one, you're better off with a test light rather than a meter, unless you're merely checking for continuity. A test light puts a decent load on the wire, so if the light is lit, you can be sure there's electricity. A meter will accurately measure voltage, but isn't placing a significant load on the circuit, which may result in a false reading. This is particularly true if there's corrosion in the circuit: a meter may measure voltage, but when a load goes on the system, the corroded circuit may not pass enough voltage to actually work properly. This is especially true for headlights.
Thank you for replying last video. If you ever want more power let me know. Simple bolt ons will wake up that 300. Remember everyone builds a v8. Be different man! By the way i subscribed
@@hossrod they sell a decent amount. Offenhauser makes some intakes for it so you throw on a 4 barrel carb. They make headers, a wide variety of cams, distributors etc. Just type on google what your looking for and itll pop up
I have heard several of my friends bag on that 240/300 I6, but in its defense, (I have owned a PU with a 300), Ford's big six was a torquey motor and if tuned correctly, was reasonably economical! It ( the 240) was good enough to be put in '65, '66, and, '67 Ford cars for Taxi cabs and Standard Duty Police cruisers. Offy, and Clifford, had a ton of six cylinder performance parts. Crane cams "used to" make several serious cams for six cylinder motors. Just sayin'. Search the interweb!
That's exactly the kind of thing I need. The light mechanical is within my skill set. I was a body man, I never liked to fool with the engine and such much. I still don't like it, but can do some on these older beasts. The computerized junk, forgeddaboudit.
Great truck. Put satin clear on it to protect it and don’t over restore it. Leave 50 odd years of character in it and it will looks as great as me at that age! 😂
Why satin? I can't understand why people are clear coatin patina with satin clear coat instead of matt. It ruins the look in my opinion. I know it is supposed to protect the vehicle from further rusting, but I just can't understand why satin instead of matt.
Shelby67 I guess it depends on the level of patina on the paint. Originally it would have had a polished gloss finish. If it’s weathered with just a few bits of primer and rust showing through satin might look more like ‘dead’ original paint. I guess if it’s really rusty and degraded matte would look more ‘derelict’. Also there’s degrees of satin and somebody who’s a real artist would know how to mix and lay it down just just right. I agree that shiny rust doesn’t look good though!
The truck is coming out well ..it's a very potential project .Lovely Hawaii blue colour, keep it patina.Best wishes for new year, stay blessed as you inspire us to persue our dream project cars .
Love this old Ford 1 ton, the patina is perfect and glad you upgraded the brakes. You might want to replace that old behind the seat gas tank in favour of an in frame one in the interest of safety - will also gain you some interior room. Love the Porsche as well, your work attitude is fantastic. I’m in the midst of restoring my own Porsche though it is a 914 with a flat 4. Lots of rust to fix, got good tips from your work.
Buff and polish the blue painted sections and just wipe on Boiled Linseed Oil (BLO) onto the roof and hood tops that are patina’d with the surface rust. It will look great and you just re-apply the BLO every few months as needed.
Looking great 👍. I just wish there was more cab room in those trucks . Its hard to believe it took truck manufacturers nearly 100 years to build a regular cab truck that someone 6"2 isn't cramped up in like a sardine
These old Ford trucks built America alongside the Mack truck. Glad to see you bringing it back to life.
Great to see the dad and son team working together.
1966 is my favorite year. Fords forever! It took 50 years to look that good. Tool boxes under the bed and tie down straps. Best work truck around.
Central Bears Tool boxes under the bed for sure!

JUST WANTED TO SAY THANKS FOR DOING THE OUT OF THE ORDINARY. SWEET TRUCK.
Thank you ☺️
Love your show. It's good to see someone that gets the classics to run again. Keep up the good work and hello from Oklahoma
That truck with that patina look will get a lot of attention on the streets
Let it look old but at the same time nice 👍
Love this projects. This is one of my favorite gens of Ford trucks. 300 six rocks..A diesel with spark plugs.
I came into possession of a 68 Ford F 350 1 ton dually with factory installed RV...the RV portion is rough but the truck is a real gem!
Love the truck, keep it as factory as possible.
Love this truck! She cleaned up nicely. Clear coat wouldn't hurt to preserve the patina but she looks great
You and your dad make an awesome team. Good work fellas!
richard herbst Thank you so much! 😊
front axle four-wheel drive and a transfer case are a dime-a-dozen at the wrecking yards.... I'm jealous I love that truck 😂
It’s nice to see, someone that enjoys old iron. Plus you are actually smiling, and that is awesome
☺️☺️
I like that tin foil around those fuses. I’ve done the same on My 1966 f250.
I got a 1973, F-350. Found it in a barn, got 23000 actual miles. I put a hot battery in it and some gas. That old 300, straight 6, fired right up
Awesome! Isn’t it crazy! I still haven’t built the carb on this one 😅

Six in a row will most always go.
Reminds me of my old home in South Carolina. Jim in Chile
The truck sounds and runs nicely
I still drive my 1965 Ford F-100 shortbed, with 300 CI Inline 6, I love driving it back and forth too work.

I had the same truck but it had a big camper on it also had factory spring ride bucket seat very comfortable
Love the truck! I am so glad you left the 300/6 4 speed in it. My daily is a 69 f350. Huge fan of the old duallys.
Awesome daily!
That’s a nice old truck. Reminds me of the old 58 my dad had
I have really enjoyed this build on the ford truck. Keep the great builds coming on older trucks.
Robert Mcgowan Glad you’re enjoying! They’ll definitely be more! 🙂
I love the truck. Makes me want to get my 61 Chevy C40 back running again.
Do it 🙂
You have a 292 in that C-40? 292 was a great engine, about the closest relative to the 300!
It’s got a 261. Bigger version of the 235.

I have absolutely fallen in love with this truck.
awesome truck
kevin jacob Thank you much! 😃
1:30 the old classic tinfoil on the fuses.
Bill B 😁
Very nice.Got a 64 f-100. Gonna work along-side-yah.
Hugh MacKellar Awesome! 🙂
The truck is coming out well ..it's a very potential project .Lovely Hawaii blue colour, keep it patina.Best wishes for new year, stay blessed as you inspire us to persue our dream project cars .
Thank you 😊 I’ll definitely keep the patina! I hope everyone does get a chance to pursue their dream cars!
That truck is cool. A survivor and in amazing condition.
Shoulda bought some por15 for the frame. I'd highly recommend giving the whole body a coat of clear coat to preserve the paint that's there also.
Love that '66! the truck, your building the truck I always wanted!!
travis sagers Thank you! They’re around still! 😊
Really glad you’re enjoying the builds! 😊 thanks for the suggestion, I’ll keep that in mind! That’ll be a sweet ride!
Very cool truck. Enjoyed watching the build.
Glad you’re enjoying 🙂
Quality content. I'm glad your staying with the original chassis and 300 six. Truck has a lot of personality
Thank you! 😊
Buff and polish the blue painted sections and just wipe on Boiled Linseed Oil (BLO) onto the roof and hood tops that are patina’d with the surface rust. It will look great and you just re-apply the BLO every few months as needed.
Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll keep that in mind 🙂
Looking great 👍. I just wish there was more cab room in those trucks . Its hard to believe it took truck manufacturers nearly 100 years to build a regular cab truck that someone 6"2 isn't cramped up in like a sardine
Dallas Rife Thank you! Haha I know right! I hope to find a crew one day 😉 Just hard to find!
Awesome truck. Roll with it. Great hauler.
Well.one thing for sure. If yoh ever decide to repaint it . Paint stripper will sure peel that old primer and paint off of there pretty easily
