- Do you remember your first computer?
This video shows the performance of the top computer brands in terms of market share. Apple dropped by a lot in the late 90s, hence why they brought back Steve Jobs. I did not include them with the "others" because they have been very influential to the computer industry. Those that dropped to 0% were either acquired or left the computer market. Computer brands that sold less than 3% are part of the "others" group, those included brands like Sony Vaio, Microsoft Surface, Packard Bell and hundred others. In the 90s computer sales were based on price and performance instead of style since they were seen as a business tool.
I included popular computers from each year so you can see the progression of computer designs and so you can have an idea of what was selling at that time. I did not include many laptop images because it's difficult to see their progression other than thinner bodies.
You can find the Samsung Galaxy Book Pro here:

No one ever believes me when I tell them Others is a great computer brand.
😂
💀
My first computer was the Others brand and I loved it!!! 😂Lol No but seriously the first computer I had back as a kid in the 90's was a custom built Pentium II MMX 233 with Windows 95 32 MB of ram, a 24x CD-ROM drive and a 32 bit Video card Expert Color Pro it was called Lol. My dad paid about $2000 at the time knowing that computers were going to be the way of the future. I miss my dad he was the best dad ever!😭
Never had something else then Others. Makes absolutly no sence for me to buy a brand. I am building my own computers and ever did so. Thats the only way to have full control of all the parts.
Does Others play Crysis?
My first computer was Toshiba Satellite. 2 gb ram, 500 gb hard drive. It was the most costly one that time, and I still have it :)
lucky you my first computer was a Vic 20. 4K ram and a Tape drive.
the first computer that I learned on was an I don't know. We had a Dumb terminal in school. we used a modem to call it. there was a paper print out for the screen and saved our programs on a paper Tape. God I am old.
Mine first computer was a gigabyte intel pentium g3240 4 gb of ddr3 ram and 1 tb hard disk
@@souradeepghosh7559 IF you have not owned a Commodore, you have not had a real computer.
My first computer was an eMachines T-Series tower with Windows XP Home Edition, running an Intel Celeron, 128 MB of RAM, 80GB Hard Drive, with a CD, DVD and floppy drive 😀
That must've been a dog! My first was a Dell Dimension with 2GB and a 120GB hard drive. Oh, and a 2.8Ghz Pentium 4. It was still usable into the late 2010s!
Watching this on my 2011 HP Pavilion notebook. It’s been on almost continuously since the spring of 2011.
Still using an HP slimline w7 from 12/2011, it is on 24/7/365, only real problem I had with it was the power supply went bad after five years, replaced it and had no problems since, only upgraded the cpu, and the ram!
My first computer, which I got as a Christmas present 25 years ago, was a clone, which would belong with "others!"
Basically, all computers are clones they were based on the IBM 8088 processer even the ones made today. So, Compaq, HP, Hewlett Packard and ECT. were all IBM clones.
Packard Bell, 20GB HDD (was blue coloured too, from PC WORLD) around 2002?
My first microcomputer was Cybernet. It was an American-made model. It enabled me to learn to use Microsoft Windows XP Professional like a computer technician, and it had Microsoft Office XP Professional that enabled me to work higher than just a keyboard specialist (that is, a typist with strong keyboarding skills). In 2017, I bought my first Dell microcomputer, but replaced it with an advanced Dell microcomputer that works great, as you may read my accurately-typed comment. I call my microcomputer my Keyboard, because it is my powerful typewriter. I enjoy using it a lot. Keep the shows coming through!🙂
I didn't realise how popular Lenovo are now - I always assumed they were like 4th of 5th most popular!
Cheaply made.
Lol that would be the others 🤣
Widely used in business
I thought Dell would be further down the list. The only Dells i see are old laptops from the 00s that people kept
@@jackjackum The XPS line I think is pretty popular though. I have a Dell myself so probably a bit biased 😂
(P.s. Music is "Epic Motivation" & "Epic Motivation 2" by music artist "Roman Cano")
My first work computer was an Apple 2e, upgraded to the first IBM PC with a HD in the twin cities. My first personal computer I built.
Presently built my own desktop Dell laptop and no name tablets
My first computer was that iMac in late 90s early 2000s it was orange 🍊 colored
My first computer was a Commodore VIC-20!
Commodore 64k here
Commodore 64 here
My first computer was a Compaq pentium II, 128 MB of RAM 10gb hard drive, year 1999
Someone should do a video that starts way earlier to include commodore and such
Got my Dell in 2008. After few upgrades and replaced parts still just as quick as anything new Ive used today
At work I have an acer and my coworkers use HP too. At home I still have a Fujitsu Amilo and an Apple MacBook Pro. I had an Lenovo ThinkPad but gave it to my aunt.
HP Compaq Presario SR1050NX, my first machine.
Finally another upload from Captain Gizmo! I'm wondering what took him so long...
Also where is Gateway on this list?
Read the description
The data videos were getting few views so I was trying out other types of videos, but those got even less views. So I would end up deleting them so they don't drag the channel down.
My first computer was an eMachines EL1360g, 4gb ram I upgraded to 8, 500gb hard drive I upgraded to 1 tb ssd, with a dvd cd drive. I still use it
I've always wanted to try an Others.
My desktop is an Asus and my laptop is a Lenovo, so that puts me at the bottom of the list and the top of the list at the same time hehe! My 1st computer was a BBC Micro from 1981, from the early age of home computers. If we're talking the era in this video (1996-2023), then my 1st PC I had was from a local PC shop, so would have been classed as 'others' on this list. It was a Pentium II with 350MHz, March 1999
My VERY first computer was a Timex Sinclair. It had 1K of memory. NO drive storage, not even tape. You entered a simple program of no more than 1,000 total characters. When you turned it off you could not save the program. Monitor was a TV. It cost $99 assembled or $49 if you wanted to assemble it yourself. Not very practical, but that's how I learned. My computer #2 was a Radio Shack CoCo. Still have it.
I want to get me an "Others" computer
Lol
yes true but apple computers are expensive so brands like lenovo or acer are cheaper@@haoiliforyou
i ave One, an you could too. Only buy components and build them. Take the Quality in your Own Hand.
I'm gonna rush out and buy stock in "Others"
Having built a custom rig, I have successfully bought a PC from “others”. And hope my LG gram too comes under “others”
great statistic video
I have a suggestion for a video
Make the most popular Linux Distros
Please do a video of no. Of users of different android versions.
My first computer was a Commodore 64. Then later in the 1990 I bought a PC clone built from a local puter builder called BetaComp. Then in the 2000s i built my own AMD system. Now I own a Gateway laptop and HP desktop.
Is it for laptops only or for the all desktop and notebooks personal computers?
Perhaps you should read the description of the video…?
background music name .....
286 16Mhz with a 44MB MFM hard drive and a green monitor. The monitor displayed in green only... which I thought looked nicer than the Red ones. Oh... and 1MB of ram running DOS 4.1. First upgrade was to put in an "Adlib" sound card... :)
And what about handmade computers or computers made by sellers? I have one and it hasn't any brand
I have only ever bought one branded computer and that was my Tandy color3.
Music?
My first computer was an Apple IIc
My first computer, 1986, was an Amstrad.
2014 - The 'brands' started offering deals to the big firms, the firm I worked for went Lenovo, great laptops even back then and so cheap nearly everybody had one in the company.
Others is my favorite brand
We had some compaq around the 2000 era they was good computers for us.
I own a Acer laptop and I love it. The only thing I hate about it is that the touch pad for it stopped working but that's okay because I prefer using a mouse instead anyway. I don't understand why its on the bottom of the list.
My first Computer was an IBM PC. (If I don't calculate with the Commodore 64.
Intel Pentium 2 366Mhz, Vodoo 3Dfx video card, 16Mb RAM about 1Gb HDD.
My first computer was a zx spectrum clone named tk-90x...
my first computer was a 2008 aluminum macbook with 2 gigs of ram and 160 gigs of storage 💀💀💀💀 i still have it but i upgraded it to 4/250 gigs respectively
My first computer was a notebook, Acer Aspire 5742 G, run with Windows 7, I buy this for around 600 € in Jan. 2011. I still use it until today with Windows 10, but some parts are broken.
Mine was a Tosiiba Notebook.
Its OS was Windows 98 SE.
Wie teuer war das Toshiba Notebook, als du es gekauft hast? Und nutzt du es noch? Gruß, Chr.
9 months late but since you asked: My first 'computer' was an Amstrad PCW8256. My first Windows based computer was a Dell Optiplex with 4 GB of ROM and 256 MB of RAM. It had an Intel Pentium 4 (2.4 GHz) processor, which sounded big at the time. I also had no idea how close Apple came to falling out of the game altogether, Jesus.
What is others?
I am really amazed that there was no MSI which is very popular among gamers
But gamers are not popular so, and their setup pc are very expensive so 🤷
My first computer was a macbook with the touchbar
I'm surprised Gateway, e-Machines, Packard Bell were not on the list outside of "Others"
I never heard of brand names "Others"
Watching this on my Surface Pro 😎😎
it's better to omit "others" if it's a bunch of several brands
I think others is largely the generic no name pc clones that were budget options. They were sold at electronic stores or online.
@@ScottCleve33I wouldn’t categorize brands like Sony, Samsung, Toshiba and MSI as “no name”, unless you would also include HP, Dell, Acer and Asus as such.
Starting in 1996 INSTEAD of 1986 devalues this video.
Others control the market of computers
Oh yes my favorite brand Others
I'll never forget the day Lenovo overtook PlusOthers to become the number 1 brand.
Can someone explain what is others ??
It includes Google, LG, Razer, Microsoft, MSI, Samsung, etc. Huge companies, but very niche computers.
I would assume Dell was first, with all the corporate partners they have.
IBM PS1 ftw
HP/Hewlett-Packard old name was Compaq
Once more
Another video from this channel
My 1st PC is an IBM 586 based, over $2k, extremely expensive in poor China in 1990s.
'Others' should have small enough combined share to stay at the bottom of whatever list size you are following through time. It's a bit silly if it moves up and down the chart, and it's beyond ludicrous for it to be at number one for nearly the whole time. Imagine if the chart show announced that the number one in the singles chart was a combination of literally all tracks available to stream, download or buy, other than those we already played between 40 and 2 in the Top 40.
So any single manufacturer under others is smaller than the last one on the list?
Read the description, perhaps…?
my first computer was a lenovo ideacentre
First Computer? Sure, sinclair Spectrum Color, Then Amiga 500, Amiga 1200, and Then I build my Own untill today.
Lenovo laptop since 2014 ssd m.2 usb-c
Gateway was super big back in the day and should shown on this video. it shouldn't be just under others.
I know own a Gateway laptop 11" . It is nice.
In 45 years I have had tones of "others" computers and non with a brand
it's the big three, hp, lenovo and dell, and then it's the smaller two acer and asus, and then apple
I knew others was in trouble due to the rise of the laptop and demise of the desktop PC. I'm surprised how long it took others to be overtaken. Currently I've got a Lenovo gaming laptop and a home built desktop PC which would be an others. I'm shocked Dell isn't much higher given every work computer I've got is a dell in a large hospital. Dell has most of the business market.
I like computer in 1996🙏🏻😭
Lenovo is amazing; had no idea they had such. a large market share!
I've never even heard of Lenovo HP was always our go to brand since they first hit the scene.
Lenovo took over IBM's PC division and went on to continue IBM's lines of Thinkpads, desktops, workstations and created new entry level lines for the budget consumer market. Many big institutions use only lenovo computers across the whole organization, just as other institutions may do so with Dell or HP machines.
@@TorontoPopulistConservative Well, I got one of their gaming PC's from Costco for $1,500 CAD taxes in with a 3060. The same PC from a company like META wanted $2,400 AMERICAN.
what is other includes?
Huawei, Honor, Realme, Samsung, LG, MSI, Razer, Xiaomi, etc..
Lg, samsung, medion, msi, gateway, packard bell,
thanks @@GuyCezar-pf2vc
others ???
between 07 and 13 feels for me like VAIO everwhere... 🤔 but nothing in your list...
Everyone spoke about vaio but very few purchased, they were just too expensive
Others must be an Amazing company
It does include a bunch of amazing companies such as LG, Razer, Microsoft, MSI, Samsung, etc.
@@CaptainGizmo I personally have an omen gaming PC ad it works amazing. So i can see why the other brands outside of the big ones are really popular.
lol, I thought Asus is one of the most popular. Also didn't realise that Lenovo is so popular
nice!
Others???
I’m kind of surprised Apple isn’t higher, but I love the effect of the bars changing as years go by.
Large businesses and colleges don't buy Macs, they're too expensive. Those are the biggest buyers.
And with Windows being good and many people being used to it - not many people see the need to switch to Apple.
@@CaptainGizmo My local school district growing up were always huge Apple customers and even still there were way more PC's overall. All the dedicated computer labs and the engineering lab in the highschool (where they taught CAD and photoshop) had Macs, but the regular classrooms, libraries, and administrative offices had standard Dell office PCs.
@@jackjackum”Windows being good”…? Could you explain that?
@@Ikreisrond They work for most people and are accessible. Mac works best for people with other Apple devices and their price makes it inaccessible
I like how people back in the day, knew not to buy apple.
It is also applicable in these day.
Evidently you don’t even have to "buy Apple" for it to live rent-free in your head. 🌚
Yeah Apple products are a ripoff, I only prefer IPhones because in my opinion they’re more ez but any other product is bad
@@Waterfirerockair such as
Apple was just almost about to go out of business back then until Steve Jobs came back. Apple products aren't ripoffs today. It all comes down to personal preference.
My first computer was a Quantex if anyone remembers them.
Other than the others, Others was once a strong brand, but now we live in other times...
I’m confused
I’ve never heard of Others?!
I heard Others was an awesome computer company 🙂
can we talk about how the apple mac pro looks like a cheese grater?
I thought others would be 90% of market share
I'm using Lenovo! 😀😁
Chrome OS ( linux Based like Android )
Missing QNX ( Blackberry OS )
BSD and more
Toshiba 😭
I love Compaq 👍👍❤️🔥
It's a little bit of a cop out if "others" has to stay in the top five through the whole video, surely it could have been better delinated. The chart barely changed the whole time...
Meu primeiro computador foi um compaq presario, Intel Pentium dual core 😂
Nobody talking about how HP bought Compaq
Or how Lenovo is now the PC name for IBM
Other :
Acer is the best.
My notebook is Acer.
I use Asus Laptop currently and it still good even for now
Can u do just U.S. market?
It is easier to find out from the consultants in the store. They are spinning on this issue.
