Cherish the time you spend farming with your dad. Cause when he is gone it will be very different and you eill miss him. . I farmed with my dad my whole life he taught me everything. Such a great guy. When he passed away it was a huge impact on the operation. He is missed every single day. So cherish the time you still have with your dad. Happy birthday Marty.
Happy Birthday Marty! I really enjoy the content don't care if its another 10 videos of tile installation, either way I always learn something. Keep up the good work. Hope you're whole family has a good holiday season.
Happy belated birthday Mr. Dole! Andy, I’m proud of my ornery 84 year old Dad. Mine like yours still goes 100mph like his hair is on fire. Probably one of the main reasons they are fond of red pickups 😂
He about needs a safety light on his truck at times to keep everyone safe. The greatest privilege in this life is to be able to live and work through a full life. Many people don't get to do that.
Grower in Abilene, Kansas. locked in Dec25 Corn HTA @$4.40 Have a put option (floor) @$4. Ive only got roughly 5% of 2025 expected production managed as of 12-19-24. Good Luck with your marketing of grain for 25. Could be a wild one!
Wouldn't an HTA and a put option together basically be a double downside hedge? I've seen some people do the HTA and use a call or call spread on the top end. All it takes is money... 🤣
@atrippyfarmer One could view it that way based on location and if the demand for grain is high or low. In our area (usually) basis gets better closer to harvest due to ethanol plants and out west with feedlots. Thats the reasoning for us to use a HTA. Now I do lock in a cash price once we know what production is going to look like late summer. It does take some money but your goal is hopefully reducing your downside risk. Biggest thing that I’ve learned is to know your cost of production and market accordingly! Take care Bud! Wishing your family a Merry Christmas!
Andy, we put most of our lie in on 40’ spacing. Occasionally 30’ on clay soil. On wider spacing the ground is still wet between laterals, will be interesting to see how your system works.
In my experience on trapping raccoons I’ve used peanut butter and dry cat food or marshmallow and peanut butter. Hope it helps get rid of your critter issue.
Andy... What is the end purpose of your corn yields? The Millennial Farmer channel a lot of their corn yield goes to an ethanol plant. The remainder I guess goes to feed.
A lot of our corn goes to the export market on the railroad to New Orleans, or it goes to Decatur to be processed at the ADM and/or Tate and Lyle facilities. That is a combination of food products and fuel products.
they will probably use a gradeall and a couple of hiway dump trucks, if you have the space you should offer a place to the contractor to dump the dirt removed, 1 it might reduce your cost if he dosen't need to find a dump spot and 2 most if not all of the dirt removed will be good black, especially in a ditch, ya know "Black Gold"
I think there is enough of a dip through the field that they will back fill the dirt into the field. It should mostly be good silt in the bottom of the ditch unless they have to do a big cut. We wouldn't let our dirt leave for free..: 😎
Raccoons love sweet corn...we had a few on my dad and grandparents farm,,we had rivers that ran on or close to our farms ..they knew were our sweetcorn patches were
Be very interesting to see somebody do a side by side comparison of trenching versus plowing. Curious to see which would do a better job pertaining to crop production/drainage affects.
You guys have been money ahead if you would have just bought a 790 those x9 are just i have a brother who's a service manager at a degree dealer and he said there shop is full of x9 he said if your a johndeere guy the 790 is the best for reliability.
Where your main is getting maxed out, I always wondered if you could plow another main several feet alone side and then tie the two together several times
I love new technology but it's apparent quality is nothing like it used to be or could be. No reason these machines have all these issues. But of course I don't know of any combines that can survive a rod or fence post in the rotor !!
@aTrippyFarmer Just on weather. Beans can go down another 50 cents. Plus any talk of Trade War can cause more downside pressure. Far as 25' corn. I expect a rally in early summer. Then make cash sales. And or buy put options. Is my simple advice. I was bearish last spring. Yet a possible dry summer will cure low prices. Hopefully the aviation fuel won't get derailed by Trump next year. That's the key too long term prices for soybeans. Good luck and have a great Xmas with your loved ones!
I think the political leanings of farmers is because of their rural upbringings. I'd be that most have strong conservative ties with a mostly religious upbringing.
I don't personally own any of the necessary equipment or have any extra help to leverage into that business. I am certainly interested if the situation were a bit different.
We can only hope that prices under the new administration will get better. Since Trump is all in on Tariffs, I wish he would use them to make our grain more appealing to places like China. Maybe I'm looking at it all wrong, but..... forget all the other Tariffs and just put a "special" one on grain. It's easy as I see it. Just put a 1:1 on grain. If China wants to sell products in the USA, then they must buy a dollars worth of grain for every dollars worth of whatever Chinesium ( yes thats, that special stuff they call steel) thing they send us. After they have bought all the grain they need for the year, then they can send all the stuff they want no questions asked but only after they buy our corn, soybeans, wheat, and so on. If they don't want to do that, then put a 100% tariff on EVERYTHING they ship here. That special Tariff would make our $8.00 a bushel corn much cheaper than Brazils $4.00 corn. At least for China. This could be above, beyond, and completely separate from any other Tariffs put on anything else. Whether you like Tariffs or not they are coming so as farmers let's not fight them, that's a losing battle but rather let's use them to our advantage and make China buy our corn before any other countries grain. Lobbying for this is my marketing plan at the moment while I am holding onto my grain I have been lucky enough to have on farm storage between existing and newly built and not needed the money, so I have the last 2 crops held back. Right or wrong, it is where I am right now. Sorry, but I don't care what the rest of the world thinks or likes, all I care about is money in my pocket. It doesn't seem to bother China to do stuff like that to us, so I feel they should get what they give. Just my opinion. Hold as long as you can afford to and only sell what you need to until you get the price you want.
Hey , just a ideal here . Brian brown farm used the 9r 510 to wheel pack the tile trenches on there farm after installing tile . What are you're plans ?
I am not planning to touch those tile runs until next spring. I personally wouldn't ever advise someone to directly attempt to pack soil over a fresh tile installation. A handful of good rains and some spring tillage should get us close to where we need to be!
th-cam.com/video/3h-2ehG8168/w-d-xo.htmlsi=1epQnzGVREDjC_Wv This may help you understand reason for your pip from another farmer with only one complaint about the combine
@JustusBuckels-zt6kt .Yup!!!! Either way...and thing surly are not going to get any cheaper. But you would think that the money spent on equipment now days ....It would last alitte longer before break down !!!!
It's a crap shoot with this new Trump presidency trying to figure out how to market your grain. In my opinion. I'd hold onto your grain as long as you can hoping prices go up but not likely. The Trump administration isn't farmer bill friendly either. It's going to be rough for most farmers especially small farmers. Most of them will give up and will eventually go belly up under this new administration. You get what you farmers voted for. Maximum Chaos !!!
I think this market was backed into a corner regardless of President. South America is growing soybeans like the world is about to run out, yet we have them coming out of our ears!
@aTrippyFarmer Corporate Capitalism Greed has you exactly where it wants you and your grain prices. Their's 8 billion people in this world to feed. Tariff nonsense is not a way to do business so countries like China and India with a billion citizens will choose to do business elsewhere. Keep your pencil sharp.
Lol. $21 billion in subsidies, plus artificially keeping corn prices up by forcing ethanol into our gasoline. It's a supply and demand issue. The way yields are today, literally 50% of corn ground could be eliminated and we'd still have a surplus. If a farmer can't make it today, they actually do need to get out of farming, and sell their land to someone who can farm profitably.
@@davedammitt7691 I can appreciate a disagreement about the principle of subsidies. I think everyone missed the point. The worst possible scenario is for US farmers is to stop producing on available acres. Food production is arguably the highest priority homeland security issue. Farmers have to consistently have oversupply and additive demand to consume it, or we will have to start relying on other countries for food. I am biased as a farmer, but I think we should be subsidizing our own food production over wars and foreign aid.

I am optimistic!

Thanks for all the great videos . And as far as marketing I'm going to summer fall this year, just like I did last year.
Happy birthday Marty .
Appreciate it!

We caught a opossum yesterday... he looked guilty!

Farmers can rely on them for consistent performance. That machines is great
No machine is perfect!
@aTrippyFarmer you right, but Now it is best for agriculture, for harvest wheat, corn, soybean... That is great for farmers
Merry Christmas!!
Happy Birthday Marty - I thought he was a lot younger than 70 😮
He moves like he is 50!

Marketing 2025 crop- right now, we have 1/3 of our corn and 1/2 of our beans covered through options .

Trippy, happy birthday to your dad.🎉. Is he the oldest of the brothers?
hyperlight is a sponsor for another chanel, but looking for lights for your equipment shed, perhaps a good look?

Diversity,that’s the key!
What’s it gonna be?
Happy birthday Marty

Fried chicken works great to bring them in
We usually don't have any to spare!!! 🤣

If you view, why not give it a THUMBS UP? Sooo easy to do, and SUBSCRIBE!
Appreciate the support!
happy birthday
You would think they would want the part back, to determine why it failed.
Where your main is getting maxed out, I always wondered if you could plow another main several feet alone side and then tie the two together several times
People do it all the time. Works fine.
I love new technology but it's apparent quality is nothing like it used to be or could be.
No reason these machines have all these issues. But of course I don't know of any combines that can survive a rod or fence post in the rotor !!
Some is poor design and some is self inflicted. I think the price of these machines would be justified if they were actually relatively flawless!
Good morning
Hope you have a great day!
Buy bean Put options. With a great big crop in South America a growing. Thatll protect your downside risk.
I keep thinking that they can't go down any further in price.... and then they do haha!

Why's that fan the wrong color?
I Dont know any demorat farmers.....the free market economy is the only way to market. look at whats going on i Europe rite now
I think the political leanings of farmers is because of their rural upbringings. I'd be that most have strong conservative ties with a mostly religious upbringing.
What's going on in Europe
you have the big iron why not just do it yourself. buy a plow. be money ahead I think🤔
I don't personally own any of the necessary equipment or have any extra help to leverage into that business. I am certainly interested if the situation were a bit different.
Ever thought about partnering up with a neighbor your age to tile your own farms, the older Doles could operate the tile cart@@aTrippyFarmer
