i think the present karate adapt this technique to class. Back to last 20 years or more, it had fight between Muay Thai vs Karate at Japan. The karate fighters set the rules not allowed to use elbow in that match.

@@gnk237 Okinawan karate contains elbows, knees, clinches, trips and throws. It was in the 60s in Japan they stopped using all those in competition I think.
