Man he looks like an excellent teacher. I know he has a life time of experience, but it looked like he got you to "feel" each thing he corrected in just a few reps and that's amazing to me haha
I've lived in Thailand for close to 10 years, Muay Thai is very close to my heart. I love seeing this 😍. Some of your right kicks are perfect ❤️ And I miss my Muay Thai friends in Thailand ❤️😍🇹🇭
The speed at which you pick up these teachers form corrections is testament to how much time you put in to your practice. It is not easy to change a habit or rewire a pathway of movement. Your mind is strong.
He inspired Sagat. Years ago I was in a low class karate school. My sensei didn't give proper instructions for a side kick. Then I watched Sagat. O learned from a 2D Sprite based on a legend. Thank you Mr Sagat
Thank you for this excellent video. It reminded me of my classes (about 20 years ago) where the instructor was teaching us about the importance of staying relaxed, economy of movements and using all the muscle groups (feet, legs, hip, waist, torso, shoulder & arm) to maximise the power.
that kick where it comes up and then pivots.. there's a savate version where you launch the kick up almost under the opponent's armpit, and then pivot your hips almost so your facing away from your oponent.. and then your foot will come up, over and down into the neck or jaw from above the shoulder; with all that downward force from your pivot(it's a BIG, quick pivot of the body). i've seen some mma guys use it to great effect but it seems tough get to where you can do it with speed and power. i wish i could remember the name of the kick.. but i think some muay thai guys incorporated it since it's not far off from the way they already do a lot of their kicking
I love this. The way you explained what he is asking for is so simple and easy to dial in. I've heard all of these fundamentals for years but this is such a comprehensive breakdown that anyone of any muay thai level could benefit from.
This is really interesting. Like your husband was saying this reminds me of an old karate concept of penetrating with strikes that's taught in certain styles. Whenever I first began boxing this was how I was taught to throw the cross or rear straight or whatever else you want to call it.
Bruce Lee was years ahead of his time he always spoke on Economy of Movement. He would love kickboxing bcuz he was already doin it back then he believed every part of your body was a weapon and that you should be able to use your legs like you use your arms that you could use kicks like jabs. He was a one of a kind person a true pioneer and visionary of the Martial Arts and when I see Kickboxing and UFC it’s everything he spoke of using some of everything that works and not limiting ones self to a particular set of rules! Mixed Martial arts are the complete package tho bcuz it entails a mixture of everything and Bruce is the father of it bcuz no one thought like that before him. They didn’t even do full contact sparring but Bruce did with his students. Muay Thai is a beautiful and deadly art form and puts emphasis on economy of movement.
Really appreciate this video. I'd switched over to ninja as I've aged, but had recently been missing MT and stumbled across your video. The explanations and breakdowns you gave are super informative and motivational as well. Thank you!
This is amazing! Great fighters with knowledge that could have been lost, and you're documenting their insights. Subscribed and started a $5 monthly donation, thank you!
Great trainer. I had my doubts at first when she was using leg power only then the master corrects her. Great technique non telegraphic and hips into kick.
He actually makes sense. Lift the knee - pivot on the foot / literally the most efficient roundhouse. Not turning the punch over ( keep fist in neutral/external rotation thus stabilizing the shoulder joint.) and you get a harder punch.
Hey coach Sylvie...just read a quote that looks like you posted from Willie Pep...about courage and stepping into the ring. I just did a muay thai fight and that quote helps me internalize it. I think too often fighters are trying to prove the child versions of themselves to a bully of some kind - and I hope to reach for goals with less insecurity and more curiosity. Thank you for all that you do, warrior
last bit.. your punch 'goes past the target' only because you are close. a simpler way to think of it is 'your body fully extends until you hit the target, then retract naturally' (i enjoyed the vid. thanks)
Great video! I had the same problem fixing my kick at Singpatong gym Phuket. Im able to throw the kick more freely now and i noticed im able to land more kicks now. Makes the world of a difference with this small change but there are many ways to throw a thai kick this is one way.
go to a poor country, pay normal prize. sadly the world is filled with inequalities and huge wage gaps. good news is if you have the time and money and an open mind, you can find the masters while funding their school.
I remember learning from the golden era fighters to throw my kick straight up and then around. It’s so much faster. Modern gyms in the USA teach the worst way to use the roundhouse kick.
I dont usually see this way of striking in muaythai. When i transitioned to mma from muaythai my coach drilled the same thing into my and adjusted my striking completely. As a shorter fighter, you can definitely get the most of your range by staying within your frame (attacking through the centre line). Plus, it's safer when youre on the offence as well because your guard is not open so youre not vulnerable to counter attacks. Thanks for sharing this video sylvie. It's really insightful and it shows that this style of striking can also be used in Muay Thai :)
That's awesome Sylvie. Thank you. I've been learning from watching you for a few years now starting with Master K who was incredible. Your work ethic has been inspirational and your channel one of the best for conveying what ur doing and how ur meant to do it, and love ur helpful commentary.
There are over 60 hours of video commentary like this in the Muay Thai Library project, which this is a part of: www.patreon.com/posts/muay-thai-uncut-7058199
You get to train with many top trainers and most seem to have their own ways of throwing certain strikes. Is it difficult to work with trainers that have varying methods of throwing the same strike? Additionally, do you find it challenging to incorporate everything together into a fight or sparring situation? (Regardless, it must be an amazing experience being able to work with these legends)
It's a good question, one that I get a lot. But no. Everything has its purpose, its advantages and disadvantages, its role. When you learn each you just take what is good for you. Maybe it's like studying different poets if you are a young poet. They all use language differently, some very differently than others. But when you understand why you can pick your own words, based on what you learned. If that makes sense.
5:48 a lot of things he talks about are in line with what's Bruce Lee's said, Bruce Lee also advised vertical fist and punching without flaring your elbow
coincidentally i just watched a vid by joe valtellini on kicking upward like that, it works quite well with the distance covering shown here. You should check it out, i found i generate more speed/power his way ( ie, kinda like doing a calf raise with the lead foot when you kick. Vid explains it better)
I believe they may have fought 3 times, with Sagat winning twice. But there was a substantial weight difference, they had to fight at catch-weight. But yes, a living legend. 151 career KOs.
You can see a compiled Library of videos of those I've trained with here: www.patreon.com/posts/muay-thai-uncut-7058199 -- Samart will be published next month.
Also what I remember coming from Mike Tyson was him saying he always tried to hit through his opponent and I feel my kicks becoming way more powerful because of thaz
Hey Sylvie , love your vids (from Tahiti) ..I think Sagat is trying to show a different kind of strikes , more short and quick compared to usual charged strikes (heavy and strong but less speed) The difficulty here is not only the physical aspect of these strikes but the mental aspect and the vision
Great videos, Sylvie. ASEAN countries love the World Cup and football (or "soccer"😕) especially in Thailand. If elite/collegiate/olympic wrestlers can easily enter judo at the black belt level with a little bit of work and adjustments, then do you or the pros, like Sagat, think good football players can naturally transition into becoming good kickboxers?
2:00 I'm not expert but i do think if kick with shin bone it should do like muay thai forms because if kick with wrong angle of shine bone may be accident happen like anderson silva broken leg.
That exactly how I kick....notice when you kick just right...Mr. Street Fighter aka The Legendary Sagat Man himself 😉, body rock straight back. When I kick, I squeeze the butt cheek and thrust my toes on the floor causing my hip to thrust forward, leg come straight up and torque my body while at the same time driving my leg through the target. Love your passion for knowledge and the art itself, you a truly amazing person for what you're doing, giving us a peek of the Real Authenic Muay Thai from the legends and the people.
How amazing is it we can watch this stuff across the world, such an incredible teacher and we can watch this for free, amazing, thankyou.
Just for your info, if you become her patreon you'll get a full archive of these videos but much more content and longer videos and more. Great stuff!
Man he looks like an excellent teacher. I know he has a life time of experience, but it looked like he got you to "feel" each thing he corrected in just a few reps and that's amazing to me haha

Love this style of striking. Old school. So accurate, relaxed and with all the power right on the end.
Bee Bea something mma meats heads don’t have
Wow. He dropped so many power tidbits in 10 minutes that I'm on my 6th viewing and I still keep hearing small things that I didn't absorb yet.
What a legend, absolute priviledge to see this private. Thank you.
You would make a great guest on Joe Rogan’s podcast!
Rogan is such a blowhard. I'd rather her talk to Dominick Cruz or Chael Sonnen -- actually intelligent people with real fighting experience.
Chael sonnen not a blowhard?
Rhabdo B he is undefeated the one and only
Sylvie, your videos are gold. Thanks you so much
Denis those were actually staged for controversy but he still won those
He inspired Sagat. Years ago I was in a low class karate school. My sensei didn't give proper instructions for a side kick. Then I watched Sagat. O learned from a 2D Sprite based on a legend. Thank you Mr Sagat

After you explained what he was telling you and I tried it there was a big difference in power with each technique. Thank you!!

I will try to implement this even in my punches, never thought to do that with punches only kicks. Thanks again for amazing muay thai knowledge
This video is great. Thanks for taking the time to post it and to critique yourself as it played -- I learned some new tricks!
This is really interesting. Like your husband was saying this reminds me of an old karate concept of penetrating with strikes that's taught in certain styles. Whenever I first began boxing this was how I was taught to throw the cross or rear straight or whatever else you want to call it.
Awesome! Definitely going to practice these this week

Sagat is a legend... Trained with him in oz in the 90s when he came to fight pete cunningham
Awesome comprehensive breakdown of the session. I have trouble with this, having come from a TKD by and moved to Muay Thai.
This is amazing! Great fighters with knowledge that could have been lost, and you're documenting their insights. Subscribed and started a $5 monthly donation, thank you!
those calves.....
5 times bigger? pics or didn't happen
Thought I had gains with my calves; after looking at this, I'm back to square one.
Omar Isuf needs this coach!
I know right 😂
@@meowmeowone8479 brah, I swear I recommended him YEARS ago to do some muay thai in his comment section. I think he ignored it :(
Great advice on raising your leg first then going sideways. I couldn't put my finger on how to do them better.
Out of all the thais i like this guys style alot.
Very scientific
Thank you! I like the verbal assessment over this. This really helps a lot!
Great trainer. I had my doubts at first when she was using leg power only then the master corrects her. Great technique non telegraphic and hips into kick.

his energy is amazing; looks like he truly loves teaching muay thai. i'd love to learn from him personally.
I really like his reactions when he is impressed!!
your commentary deserves a lot of merit.. so people are holding back from asking which part of the vid does he teach the tiger upper uppercut.
Fantastic video, full of knowledge, these are kind of drills which make people skillful
Great video! I had the same problem fixing my kick at Singpatong gym Phuket. Im able to throw the kick more freely now and i noticed im able to land more kicks now. Makes the world of a difference with this small change but there are many ways to throw a thai kick this is one way.
This is exactly what I’m working on lol I’m so grateful for these posts! They are amazing learning tools
How do you train with so many legends? These are the guys I watch film studies or, or classic matches.
Go to Thailand and you can get private’s with these guys for not too much money.
go to a poor country, pay normal prize. sadly the world is filled with inequalities and huge wage gaps. good news is if you have the time and money and an open mind, you can find the masters while funding their school.
Awesome breakdown of the techniques and purposes. Thanks!

Your muay thai is excellent and your show is also excellent.
Thank you Sylvie
Your vids have got me practicing MT again.
Very good video, lovely clear camera work and analysis.
That's what made him so dangerous and so feared. He makes it look so easy that I'm looking at it and I got the idea within 5 minutes.
What an excellent video! Thank you so much for posting this, very informative, just awesome!
I like the way you analyze the techniques and explain them. thanks for sharing and keep it up! :D
Saw Sagat's fight Videos, this guy is a Beast !!!
Thank you for posting this videos ..learning a lot
Beautiful break down of technical striking

Amazing video Sylvie! definitely something I can learn and reflect on as well
These videos are super insightful.
Good narrative ❤️

Awesome video.... I too observed this form of kicking is more powerful and hard to intercept
Awesome fundamentals vid. Loved it.
The REAL Sagat. Literally a walking legend. If im not mistaken one of the only men to defeat Deiselnoi
I believe they may have fought 3 times, with Sagat winning twice. But there was a substantial weight difference, they had to fight at catch-weight. But yes, a living legend. 151 career KOs.
Sylvie von Duuglas-Ittu - Muay Thai dang i just went thru your channel and youve literally trained with everyone!!! Soo awesome!!! Subbed!

Thank you for sharing 🙏🏾💕
Your videos are awesome
That's one thing I found when I trained there lol business is business but when training? They have fun with it!
Nice breakdown
Jack Dempsey would throw his punches that way too.
this is GOLD
this is really awesome. Thanks
Awesome video. Sagat is genius.
Very interesting! Thanks
Great videos, thank you
good coach, and good video thanks
Awesome video! Keep it up.
Bas Rutten 101. Twist from the hip instead of TKD chambering. Good call pointing that out
Very good video!
exactly right every technique when done right should have power behind it even short jabs and leg kicks.
wow training with sagat awesome 👍
Also what I remember coming from Mike Tyson was him saying he always tried to hit through his opponent and I feel my kicks becoming way more powerful because of thaz
This was dope! thank you!

Nice form.
great video thanks!
This is sagat in street fighter
These are great insights! Thank you for sharing them!
So what about the palm position when jab/crossing?

Sagat doesn’t look like a giant warrior… just a mortal human
How do you get to train with so many elite coaches?
