You guys seriously deserve waaaay more recognition than you get. Every instrument including Dennis' vocals/lyrics are the best technical death metal has to offer! Please grace us with new music someday!
just use a double neck. better yet, have the guitars use double necks, the vocalist use two mics, and the drummer use two kits...then they'll notice. oh, and play live too.
Amen. I'm a mediocre, self-taught bassist and videos like this make me want to pick up the instrument and figure out all the crazy things he's doing. Kinda like Les Claypool when I first heard him 20+ years ago. I know for a fact that Erlend likes Claypool as well.
Do you miss the days when SoP was active? Or is it a relief you don't have to dedicate so much time and effort to it? I'm sure its both, but does one outweigh the other? Hope to see you guys back in action someday and back in NA, never got the chance to see you.
We we're never really active, considering everyone is so far apart. We've had one or two rehearsals for tour since I joined nearly ten years ago, so this is basically business as usual :)
Dude, thank you for posting videos like this. Spawn of Possession is in my top 5 favorite bands of all time and making your material available for your fans is beyond cool. I wish everyone did this! Maybe Jonas would make some videos too?
Captain Bassist there are a few lines that really jump out even if you don't know the lyrics: "how could you leave me there in that old church" "Dorian, he sodomized my weak and childish body..." "my father, my lover had now made me a mother" I pretty much figured it'd be about rape anyway being called "The Evangelist"
Hloy Hesit After listening to enough death metal you'll be able to hear 90% of the lyrics actually (for most bands at least). Perhaps he's just not used to this type of vocals?
Hloy Hesit I can hear almost every word in this video with the free iPhone earpods (I have better but I was lazy to get them) but it's not exactly a fair test cause I already know the lyrics and can't unhear them.
Hey Erlend, there was some talk between you and Rob Scallon a few months back about making a collab. Could you give us any updates?;) Amazing video, by the way!
my mind just got fking blown away.. you sir now have my total respect and admiration, a perfect exemple of what one can achieve with total dedication to his art...simply genius !
Absolutely ridiculous technique and tight as fuck, that right hand reminds me of Alex Webster another insanely talented Bassist/Musician, awesome stuff man glad i was sent here.
YES!! thank you man, The Evangelist was the first song i got introduced to Spawn Of Possession, and its my favorite song off of the album. Next playthrough Deus Avertat? :D please
Nah, we're currently focusing on new material so I highly doubt I'll ever touch anything Incurso again, unless we miraculously start touring again with more songs from that album. This was just on a whim to make people stop nagging me about this sort of stuff :P
***** well, after rethinking my wish, i want that everyone of you guys focus on your new material, even though Incurso is a masterpiece, every next Spawn of Possession album is the best Spawn of Possession album :)
***** This is amazing, thank you thank you! Best news I've read all day. Should we start the IndieGoGo campaign for tour/album promotion stuff already??? :D I'm sure I'm not the only one who would donate...
The Adventure Time onesie is priceless 🥳... so glad to have seen you guys once live, it's sad SoP isn't a more 'regular' thing, as you're God Machines live. Truly special Bassery as well sir. 👌🏻
+Erlend Caspersen Alex Webster has been my favourite player for 20 years, but your technique and general lack of ego make it very difficult for me to now have a favourite. Holy fuck a duck, you da man!
+mindfuc I can reassure you that Alex has no ego attributed to his playing, but it's always nice to be compared to one of the players that initially got me into this :)
+Erlend Caspersen I manage to have a beer with "The Webster' about 15 years ago and he was such a cooooool dude. My sentence structure is rubbish, Alex is a very humble guy :) When you play it's so nice to see such a talent absolutely plugged in to the cosmos of possibility and play as a god but still have a cheeky grin of pure enjoyment....just saying, hahaah :)
Sick ass fucken playthrough of one of my top 3 favorites from SOP, now i just need you or my niggah Jonas to showcase, Apparition and Deus Avertat!!!! Thanks for the amazing playthrough brah. Les Claypool influences me to hopp onto bass, but youre encouraging me to dish out the money XD Good day to you, sir erland!
Melanie cordova I'm not a public speaker, barely even consider myself a "talker", and I don't have much or anything to show that isn't "Do this motion for 5000 hours and you'll eventually get it". TL;DR: Nope.
I want to learn this song. But I can't because I don't have 5 string bass, I also don't have enough skill to play it, there are no tabs and it's too hard for me to learn it by ear. Lol
It's been so long that I have no clue what brand of strings I used here. Steel strings for sure, though. Got my first compressor in 2017-18, so this was long before.
So fluid, you can see the tears of bassists around the world who will never be this good. Including me :(
Hahaha indeed bro. Beast!
I cri evry tiem.
Narednik Lobanja that's what keeps his fingers lubed
So true!!!
He is very talented but it doesnt move me at all. Maybe is the music where is he focused. But he is skilled as hell.
Erlend now has a better framerate than the XBox One.
You guys seriously deserve waaaay more recognition than you get. Every instrument including Dennis' vocals/lyrics are the best technical death metal has to offer! Please grace us with new music someday!
One of the most brutal , technical and malevolent bass compositions ever in history. Some just don’t understand. Beautiful art man
Truly a ridiculous performance. You're a mad man, Erlend.
The Bass lvled up and evolved through the song into a 6string hahahaha
That fretless switch at 02:48 is going to be hard to pull off live.
Good thing no one would even notice in a live setting, and that we don't play shows.
+Erlend Caspersen i have seen steve harris using more than one bass under one song.
just use a double neck. better yet, have the guitars use double necks, the vocalist use two mics, and the drummer use two kits...then they'll notice. oh, and play live too.
dean cerumen really good point mate, or he could just play it on the bass He happens to be playing at the time... there’s that
@@ErlendCaspersen You love sarcasm dont you ?
this performance is always top notch and wicked, I always come back 10 times a week. Its just so tight man
When you realize this is the bass player for Spawn of Possession. Oops lol
+Captain Bassist I thought I was the only one LOL
I thought it was a cover😂
Hahaha you are far from the first, holy shit this comment is 4 years old
@@neonblack211holy shit now your comment is 4 years old
Here on my daily, weekly watch lol. Never gets old
Just clocking in for my daily/weekly listens since I will never get tired of this performance and song. Truly a masterpiece and TOP NOTCH musicianship
Amen. I'm a mediocre, self-taught bassist and videos like this make me want to pick up the instrument and figure out all the crazy things he's doing. Kinda like Les Claypool when I first heard him 20+ years ago. I know for a fact that Erlend likes Claypool as well.
Erlend why doesnt jonas bryssling have a youtube channel we guitarists would love to see him playing too so that we can learn the songs easier
You guys are insane. The split is a true tragedy.
Do you miss the days when SoP was active? Or is it a relief you don't have to dedicate so much time and effort to it? I'm sure its both, but does one outweigh the other? Hope to see you guys back in action someday and back in NA, never got the chance to see you.

He is an Alien : Confirmed.
The bass playing in the final part of the song enhanced the song greatly. Incredibly well played!
Ending fretless part is one of the most technical things I've ever seen
60 FPS is fucking brutal. So are theremins. Make Jonas compose the next album on one please.
Dude, thank you for posting videos like this. Spawn of Possession is in my top 5 favorite bands of all time and making your material available for your fans is beyond cool. I wish everyone did this! Maybe Jonas would make some videos too?
Glad to hear it :) Jonas doesn't care much for this type of thing, so I wouldn't expect anything anytime soon, I'm afraid.
Holy shit you have the same mouse as me
Holy shit you have the same mouse as me :O
absolutely breathtaking performance. now all we need is a playthrough of this from Bryzz...
I had to click because of the thermin and fin suit in the thumbnail lmao. Great playing man
OKAY LIKE 8 MONTHS AFTER LISTENING TO THIS SONG THINKING ITS ALL ABOUT ALIENS AND CRAP WELL I WAS WRONG. HOLY HELL THOSE LYRICS MAN WHAT WHY!
Captain Bassist there are a few lines that really jump out even if you don't know the lyrics: "how could you leave me there in that old church" "Dorian, he sodomized my weak and childish body..." "my father, my lover had now made me a mother"

Blahiesfkns Vvadik It's also got alot to do with listening equipment and bitrate. Vocals can blend in to the guitars and bass in low kbps files
Hloy Hesit I can hear almost every word in this video with the free iPhone earpods (I have better but I was lazy to get them) but it's not exactly a fair test cause I already know the lyrics and can't unhear them.
but i remember being able to hear most of it the first time too. The lyrics on Noctabulant were a lot harder to make out though.
this is the most awesome thing i have ever seen done on a bass
Astonishing work... You inspire, with SoP, so many of us.
Thanks for everything, humanity needed people like you.
Hey Erlend, there was some talk between you and Rob Scallon a few months back about making a collab. Could you give us any updates?;) Amazing video, by the way!
I doubt there's anything coming from it, at least not to my knowledge at this point.
Performed with class, a sound that ennobles the soul... Sublime!
Please new album of Spawn of Possession!!! You is one of the Bests!!!!!
Mesmerizing
my mind just got fking blown away.. you sir now have my total respect and admiration, a perfect exemple of what one can achieve with total dedication to his art...simply genius !
The most amazing bassist I have ever seen.
I like the 3y old strings.
I've 4y old strings
Man, I miss Spawn of Possession.
Absolutely ridiculous technique and tight as fuck, that right hand reminds me of Alex Webster another insanely talented Bassist/Musician, awesome stuff man glad i was sent here.
I wouldn't even know where to start to create a bassline like this... damn
Videos like this make me feel that I should never pick my bass again
Halanegri You two should meet.
***** You shouldn't. All the best guys play with fingers!
Next is to convince Jonas to record a cover in 60FPS...or just a complete cover at all would be awesome.
Very, very impressive. I just discovered you guys, count me as a huge fan. \m/

New material? Had no idea about that and now am massively excited.
I need a new album of Sapwn of Possession!!!!!
Friendly reminder, Cristian Muenzner has been make an announcement about their return with a new name but almost the same line up
Davie 504 you can't play this! Hahaha
Lmao
Ahahahah, Finn Caspersen, laughed hard at that one. Great work man.
I can’t imagine how much time you’ve spent on endurance, especially on your right hand, jeeeeeez
Awesome as always man. You have such a solid technique for this kind of music, one can learn a lot from you.
This is awesome. I could get more motivation to practice my bass just by watching your excellent performance :D
All arrogant and pedantic jazz players and jazz teachers around the world just had their brains melting down when they saw this video ahahahahahahah
The Adventure Time onesie is priceless 🥳... so glad to have seen you guys once live, it's sad SoP isn't a more 'regular' thing, as you're God Machines live. Truly special Bassery as well sir. 👌🏻
based 60fps for bassed erlend
Your note choice is very cool 🤓
I await the day someone uploads a guitar cover of this song. Amazing performance of a crazy song
Dat adventure time onesie !
60fps brutality! Thank you master.
So damn amazing.
You just blew my ass away! And just hit a bong too?! And a finger player?!
Is there any way I can triple thumbs up this video? So damn good.
+Joseph Allen nope, only doble thumbs ha, hope you get the joke hahaa
Yes. Thumbs up the video and 2 thumbs up in real life
Oh my god... It's pleasure just to see how that fingers run lightning fast
dat Theremin.
love the theremin at the end :D
My dear Mr. Caspersen, you are entertaining and a bassist of evil
How could you nail the bass to this amazing song, why
He is the bassist. It's his song
+Erlend Caspersen Alex Webster has been my favourite player for 20 years, but your technique and general lack of ego make it very difficult for me to now have a favourite. Holy fuck a duck, you da man!

Good day to you, sir erland!
Is it just me or is the realism of this video just spooky
Really cool playthrough, The Allseeing I playthrough with Theremin would be cool too :v
Bästa låten på plattan.
I will watch this video for my entire life
We need more shit in 60fps.
Good job, Finn.
Hjertelig.
THAT RIFF that starts at 2:25 and beyond might be my favourite shit in music ever
Beautiful.
Even watching his shadow is very amusing.
the best at what he does
so much... fluidity.. is that even a word ahah
that is awesome dude!! is there any tab? \m/
You know, I hear Vitriol has an opening...
Erlend, have you ever considered doing a bass clinic? i think so much people would go...
Melanie cordova I'm not a public speaker, barely even consider myself a "talker", and I don't have much or anything to show that isn't "Do this motion for 5000 hours and you'll eventually get it".
TL;DR: Nope.
***** Ugh, well. Btw, what chord do you use on your ''Slap sweeping'' video?
Melanie cordova Looks to me like it's a straight E-minor run, skipping in thirds and fourths.
Bro, i loved it, is there away you could upload just the bass as well?
DAAAAAAMNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!! Flawless as fuck....!!!! And finally you covered up your lousy tattoo on your right forearm :D
dat spookey Casper ending
I hope to comming soon to México
Incredible playing. 60FPS looks bizarre. Gonna take a long time to get used to that.
I want to learn this song. But I can't because I don't have 5 string bass, I also don't have enough skill to play it, there are no tabs and it's too hard for me to learn it by ear. Lol
you are a monster on that thing
This makes me wanna keep practising!
THE GOD OF THE BASS :')
Followed. From our fellow Tool group
what about the strings on the corvette though? no compression at all? Mind blowing playing and feel!!!!
It's been so long that I have no clue what brand of strings I used here. Steel strings for sure, though. Got my first compressor in 2017-18, so this was long before.
@@ErlendCaspersen Cool! thanks anyway man!!
I couldn't close my mouth for 10 minutes :O
I love this
Amazing!
You should do 40k video, it will be very usefull :)
Great btw, great since 9 years...
I gutted I can't like this twice!!!!
Anyone know what guitar this was written on? If it was 6 or 7 string 🤔
Amazing
The best one!!!
Amazing!!!!!!
Awesome!
amazing!!
Such a glory to know you're probably a part of the master race. Glorious 60FPS!
You can see him get physically bored with this song at 3:58. That just killed my aspirations, lmao
