      You are wrong, he was the only one on the lease, and therefore in control, it was his apt and the other guy was renting a room in his apt. it is like if you own a house and rent a room to 1 tenant they cannot move in with their partner, but you as the owner do not need his permission to get married and move in with your new wife.
      The deal was he paid $500 for the room, and that was all, that has nothing to do with what the person on the lease does or does not do.
      Know if both parties are on the lease then both can move in as a partner unless it is in their lease that they both agree no partner can move in.
      Based on what this case stated, only one of them was on the lease and therefor it was his apt and the other guy was just renting a room.

    • @ThePracticalDog
      @ThePracticalDog 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Zatheris76 you're mistaken. Roll back to the 3:05 mark and listen carefully. When the new lease was drawn up the landlord required that the roommate be added to the lease. At that point the original leaseholder was NOT the only person on the lease, it was in both of their names and the rent and utilities being split 50/50

    • @ThePracticalDog
      @ThePracticalDog 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Zatheris76 and again at the 6:15 mark - listen carefully to the plaintiff who states "and again, he was on the lease...." referring to the defendant.
      If you're in the habit at coming at people with openings like "You are wrong, ...''' you may want to first be certain that you've actually paid attention and listened to what is being presented.

    • @Zatheris76
      @Zatheris76 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ThePracticalDog I addressed that, And they mention it that they requested it but nowhere does it ever say he actually followed through and added himself on to the lease before leaving.
      Now if you're talking utilities if somebody else moves in they should have to absolutely contribute to utilities but if the agreement is you each have one room for $500 and if one of you brings in a partner the rooms rent doesn't change it is still $500 The utilities should be divided by three or if the other person gets a partner they would steal both be paying $500 per room and dividing the utilities by four.
      But unless it's specifically stated that you cannot have a partner it's your room and you can do whatever you want with your room unless there's something in the lease or agreement that states otherwise.
      He should have never had his girlfriend pay part of his $500 if anything if you share your room with somebody else they should have split the $500 50/50, meaning the boyfriend spent 250 the girlfriend spent $250 in one room and the single person spent $500 in his room and then the utilities were split three ways.

    Between the ages of 21 and 23 I lived with different coworkers. Half of those living situations were absolute nightmares. When you have to live with the same person that you see at work all day they end up just tap dancing on your nerves. Even the ones you like can get on your nerves but thankfully my last roommate situation ended up being one of my best friend for 15 years as of now.

  • @keycrum4218

    I attempted to coexist with a coworker in a 2 bedroom apt. She was looking for a place and my roommate was moving out. 2 years later, I now know that was a poor decision on my part. I barely knew the girl and if I would have paid more attention to her as far as how she carries herself, how she speaks to people, how she manages her life, Her standards (which I soon found were very low)...I would have known not to trust her or to allow her in my space. She was lazy, always had random men over (and then got mad when people started to notice in the building lol smh), always in competition, always needed to be gassed up because she had SUCH low self-esteem, and never held herself accountable for her bad decisions. Living with her was a lot, I became the person to help her get a HOME, a job, a man smfh ALL BECAUSE SHE DIDNT WANT TO DO THESE THINGS FOR HERSELF. Now I also know she used me because I have the drive, determination, and follow through to get what I want in life. Rather than adopted that mentality and gaining those skills she just used me. I learned from that time in my life and now I'm not pressed for friends who are dependent of everyone around them lol

      I am one of the rare lucky ones - I have a life long friend that I initially met at work. At one point when I was looking to move from my apartment she told me she was looking for a room mate in her 3 BD house; I lived there for over a year and we had no issues.
      Then some 15 years later when her house burned down, she moved in as my room mate in the house I owned.
      We are friends to this day.
      Having no roommate is ideal, but there are in fact instances where roommates get on fine and have no problems.

Basically decided to move out because the plaintiff's girlfriend was living there for free. The irony of that, is the plaintiff referred to the defendant as a "freeloader", when it was because of the plaintiff's freeloading girlfriend, the defendant decided to bail.
      Now because the plaintiff's girlfriend stopped paying rent due to her pregnancy and no mentioning of a 4th new lease agreement that stated the defendant will go back to paying 1/2 the rent, tells me the plaintiff's girlfriend's name was not on the lease. That is more than half of a week so that person should be paying half of the rent for those weeks.

      No one, absolutely NO ONE, is your "friend" in a couple of weeks time once you are past the age of 7.
      Friendships take time and trust to develop
      Within days of meeting him he's spontaneously buying him breakfast and bringing it to work and within a week or two is encouraging him to move in with him.
      It may not have been a "man crush", but it sure wasn't a "friendship" either - which leaves he was using him to help pay for he and his girlfriend, or he's a creeper
      But I'm going with man crush!

    I disagree on this... He moved his GF in and nullified his own agreement and then to make the defendant pay half of utilities when there’s already another person living there after he left is crazy. The initial story sounds a little suspect to me. I mean, you want who you want but the buying him a sausage sandwich breakfast leading to him moving in........ We know what was REALLY served. 🤣 He didn’t want his gf (who’s really pretty, BTW) to find out.

    If your roommate moves their lover into the house..... move. Right now. Don't wait, don't agree to split costs 3 ways. It's no longer your home when that "partner" moves in. It becomes their home and you're a "guest" paying their bills. In this particular case, it's a disaster. She "needs bedrest" because she got casually pollinated? Bollocks.
    I've been through this. Shared a house with a longtime buddy, everything was great until he suddenly moved HER (and her illegitimate daughter) in. It immediately because "House Of Susan". Her tantrums ruled the house, everything had to be HER way, however minor, and he was too whipped to set her straight, so I quickly moved into a place by myself. Then she was furious that my rent money disappeared, and raged at him more. I lost a once-great friend over this. Never be a single person roommating with a couple.

    This case is a prime example of why someone should never ever do roommates. The moment the defended saw the plaintiffs girlfriend was sleeping there 4/5 times a week he should had said something about it right there especially when she don't have a job. Then gets pregnant, again no jo due to bed rest. That rent should have been split 3 ways from the moment he saw that, job or no job, let the plaintiff pay his girlfriends half.
    1 or 2 nights sleeping over I would understand but not 4/5.

It's safer (for me) that way than having a random person as housemate that might steal your stuff or disappear and not paying rent. Lucky me I have been with the same housemate/coworker since 2015 and she is the most trustworthy no drama friend ever.

    What condition does she have that she's on bedrest in the first trimester? Did she still have that baby, because that sounds like an EXTREMELY DANGEROUS pregnancy. It also sounds, to the rest of us who worked (sometimes manual labor) up until the day before we gave birth, like BS.
    And it doesn't matter anyway. If there are three roommates, things are divided in thirds. Two thirds are the plaintiff and his gf, one third is the defendant. If his girlfriend can't work because he got her pregnant, that's not the roommate's problem. 2/3 rent utilities etc are the plaintiff's problem.

So he moved in always paid the rent on time, was respectful and clean the only thing was he played on his X box with other players and would cuzz once in while but it's wasn't a problem, he was a nice guy. The funny part was he told me it's only going to be temporary, 3 years later he moved out and got his own place LOLOLOL We still see each other at work, he's over nights and I work during the day. • @ThePracticalDog
      @ThePracticalDog 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not so - from the beginning she was staying there "4 or 5 nights a week" according to the plaintiff, but he keep focusing on "she wasn't fully moved in" and that's BS! If you're sleeping somewhere 4 or 5 nights a week, you live there.
      That'd be like me telling my landlord I don't need to pay rent because I'm gone 2 nights a week - yea, like that'd go over well!
      She was living there from the get go - the problem as I see it is that the defendant didn't address that with his "friend" at the very beginning. It's not a room mates job to cover another room mates girlfriend or boy friend just because they're not working - it's the mates job to pick up their slack.
