  • To me, Yuriko is one of the coolest and strongest commanders ever printed.

Because of Yuriko's low curve out and high number of cards that reduce or eliminate their own costs, many Yuriko decks will chose to skip mana rocks all together, sometimes including sol ring. Mulliganing for exactly 1 blue, 1 black land, and 1 floater is the best option, ensuring a turn 2 Yuriko and then assuming you draw enough cards to not miss your land drop every turn.

Your average yuriko flip without manipulation when you account for lands is going to be something like 2-3 damage per player. Thats good, but its not as insane as many players expect because the single bad experience of a Shadow of Mortality for 15 is outweighs all of the land for 0s you hit before. Even if all lands were filtered out it would be something like 3-4 damage, as the good ninjas and floaters are all small CMC

Really nice deck tech! The only thing I strongly disagree with is the exclusion of Thousand-Faced Shadow, which is arguably the best or one of the best ninjas ever printed for this deck! It can serve as a enabler, can trigger yuriko on it's own and it even has pretty decent ninjutsu ability that can be used later in the game if needed

the only thing that annoys me about yuriko, aside from the ability to avoid commander tax, is how salty yuriko players i have come across get when they get targeted down. Just if your playing yuriko you are going to be the target due to how broken she is. Fact is even if I have a ability to block you it does not matter as if another player has a field you can get in once you hit WE ALL ARE PAYING FOR THAT. That is one thing about yuriko people forget her getting hits on one person hurts everyone. But yea to any yuriko players out there accept playing her makes you target enemy number one and don't act salty or shocked when your targeted down.

That's definitely valid. Yuriko's abilities definitely make her a threat to the whole table. It's fair to imagine that Yuriko will either win the game or be the first to die.
Although as always with infamous commanders make sure to show some restraint. Make sure you're targeting the Yuriko player because you think it's the next logical step to take to you winning. Make sure you aren't targeting the Yuriko player just as "punishment" for their deck choice.
IE, don't beat the Yuriko player when they're down and then lose to the "weaker" commander in the other corner that never got targeted with anything all game.

@@hamsterfromabove8905 Good thoughts sadly from my experience due to yurikos nature you really can not ignore them or stop targeting them. Due to the nature of yuriko it takes very little for them to be able to wreck the game if left unchecked. Yuriko reminds me of elves in a way. With elves you have to keep killing their little stuff and not allowing them much of a board or you will get overrun due to well elves. With yuriko its like that but even more so where yuriko having any board, any ability to get a hit in is a big issue. I try not to be mean to the yuriko player and I do not target them to punish but yuriko makes it so the table has to. Yuriko is sadly a commander that warps a game and needs to be kept in constant check due to how little she needs to get rolling. Not to mention shes blue and black and those colors are incredibly oppressive. I have seen yuriko decks that are filled with counter, removal and kill spells to ensure she can have one open field to swing in at.

@@aclevername7613 I mean you're just listing things the deck does without giving any reasoning as to why they are a priority 1 target. You can make any deck sound scary by describing what it's good at out of context.
Also you just called blue and black incredibly oppressive. That's like 40% of the colors my friend. I don't know cEDH. I play in high power casual pods with 7s and 8s. But the colors are pretty decently balanced despite what some people say. When people make sweeping statements that entire colors are oppressively strong it makes me seriously question them.
Yes Yuriko is a strong commander. And yes there are lists that push into cEDH which are not fit for casual tables. But that's true for so many cards.
I'm just not accepting the argument that Yuriko requires you to drop everything to kill that player. I think you can easily end up hurting your own chances to win if you over aggressively dump resources onto a player as a response to their selected commander alone. In addition to lowering your own chances to win I think that you also stand to alienate players by making them feel unjustly singled out to lose.

@@hamsterfromabove8905 I gave why yuriko is a priority target. Its because any creature that is out that hits you can use the broken commander ninjutsu ability to swing her in and inflict alot of damage to me even if I am not the one being hit. If I am in a game and one of my opponents are playing yuriko I have to keep their board to little as possible because again even if I do everything right and have blockers and so on I still could be hit hard if the yuriko player hits someone who is not. Yuriko's ability to come out any time for so cheap and her ability to do such insane damage if the right card it top decked warrants that player being seen as a solid threat because again hitting one of the other players with yuriko means I get hit to and potentailly for a massive amount.
You can question me all you want. From my experience blue and black is the most oppressive of the two color combinations when put together. You might not think so and that fine but from all the games I played and seen blue and black was the most oppressive in not allowing their opponents to play spells or have anything on the field. Compared to the other color combinations. If you don't agree thats fine we can agree to disagree there.
As for the last point but no. If a person is playing yuriko they should expect to be regarded as enemy number one. This holds true for other badly designed and overpowered commanders. Its not my fault they are playing one of the most broken commanders. If they feel upset they got knocked down first thats not my fault or the other players. You play yuriko your going to be on everyones radar and constantly being put in check due to how it only takes one hit for everyone to get hurt. Either one can accept that or just play a less busted commander.
