Nicole Kidman deserved the Golden Globe a lot that year, but honestly, I think the jury should have ruled a tie in this category. The winners of course must have been Nicole and Renée Zellweger, who was fantastic in Bridget Jones's Diary, who shut up everyone who doubted his choice for that role with a fantastic and hilarious performance. They are two of my favorite movie characters (Satine and Bridget Jones) so I think this, for something were nominated for an Oscar.
