I was 14 when this film came out and instantly fell MADLY in love with Ewan McGregor. He is not a classically handsome man but he has so much charisma and boyish charm!
Ahh what a movie. What a powerfull cocktail of gut punching reality and heart lifting fantasy. Never thought I'd fall for a movie that spoils it's narrative in the first minute. Nic and Ewan's chemistry is the most convincing one I've ever seen ( and I used be a deluded shipper).
Both Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor were wonderfully paired in this film! I love this movie for its adventurous, expansive approach to the musical paridigm. By the way, I didn't know that Kidman has such a lovely voice (or Ewan as well!). They sang so beautifully together and I "believed" their love story. They were at their peak during the making of this movie. A really special film!
SO glad I found these because I had ever seen them before I LOVE this movie I still watch to this day in complete aw it was made here in Sydney and seeng the love it still gets around the world makes me smile so much - Ewan and Nicole ARE Christian and Satine and I love them so much!!!
Impressive! Full experience and role identification! The boundaries of art and reality are blurred in our senses, tears shine in our eyes, for us too. Congratulation!
I think “concept movies” are mostly TERRIBLE, and sadly, this monstrosity (albeit a pretty one) is definitely no exception. Their use of current pop music with a subject hundreds of years old may have seemed a good idea at the time, but in execution it fell as flat as a bad French souffle. I find films that appear to “try too hard” by being either overly bombastic or by totally relying on wild visual effects always fall flat and never stand the test of time, costing a fortune in wasted money and returning nothing of lasting value. Perhaps had this movie been done in the “Psychedelic Sixties” it may have appealed to people watching it on LSD, but it was too little, too late. My dim view of this movie started from the very first convoluted frame to the last, with so many mind-numbing visuals that my senses became so utterly overwhelmed with mindless, useless scenes and phony plot lines that it never recovered. But this film is certainly not unique in this regard, with another perfect example of this kind of “over the top” filmmaking recently being Brad Pitt’s miserable failure, “Babylon,” which must have patterned itself from the same failed grand concept of “Moulin Rouge.” In time, this film will be totally forgotten, only viewed with bemused wonderment on how it ever got produced in the first place.

@@sharpeslass5452 This PROVES the total stupidity of the Academy. This movie was a total dud at the box office, which is why they needed to hype this pile of nonsense to the moon. I couldn't even sit through this mess even ONCE.
My favorite movie of all time. Ewan MacGregor is RIDICULOUSLY talented and should have won an Oscar in my opinion.❤️
Amen ❤
She was sooooo beautiful that no Hollywood actress at that era could come close to her beauty and the fame, wow!
The chemistry between these two is unreal
Hard to believe its been over 20 years. The magic has not dissipated.
