Box Peek rewatch might be my favorite stream of 2024. Kyle never interacts with the comments on here so I don't know if he even sees them, but in the event you do (Kyle), Box Peek is so special, man. Really and truly special. Very creatively inspiring as well. I know you're in a groove with Delayed Input and your streams, but someday I hope to see another huge creative project. I want to see Laser Choppers become a reality, lol
I like being able to see Kyle appreciate his work. I do this too. When I go back and read old stuff I'm usually very impressed with stuff I thought I hated and I wind up laughing at my own jokes because, after all, I made them because I would think they were funny. So even though I hated it when I made it, I wind up being my own best audience.
Sometimes I think we get too focused on the cynical bits of Box Peek. The "loss" we feel in the back half can only exist if we actually like the game Box Peek and seeing Jordy play it. In an incredibly short time we're moved from smirking at the idea of it in episode 1, to genuinely rooting for it. We're CD and the Peek Refs. We "secretly" like Box Peek and we're not supposed to. Because that's just what people do. We naturally gravitate toward loving things and finding other people who love them. If given the opportunity IRL, we would love something like Box Peek. We would unironically tune in to the Box Peek world finals every year. This show is like a safe way to experience the devastation of Justin Wong saying "Fighting games are kinda dumb..." and walking away during the Evo finals.
A number of people during Season 2 were like "I thought this was a show for kids." And Kyle responded, "I warned you all, the target demographic for this show is sad people in their 30s." But yeah I freaking love this show, it is so genuinely funny, well written, well acted. It's just an amazing miracle that will never be replicated.
