The Tesla Model Y finally hit our shores in Australia in August. We were one of the first to order this and to no surprise, it’s the absolute best car we could’ve dreamed of. We have two little kids under 3 and went on our first road trip together. We test the range, comfort and practicality of owning an EV in Australia living in an apartment.

As a Model Y owner in the US, I’m jealous of the build quality from over seas! This is a fantastic video. The quality of storytelling and charm from the family was great. Keep it up!
I noticed there were no segments on the build quality, because nothing was off. Nothing broke, everything feels like it should in a 70-80k car. BUT you guys have FSD beta, speaker in your car, plus getting all the new models first :) I waited so long for this, I had zero kids when Model Y came out in the states. Now I'm wiping two bums every day.
Fremont still has a lot of problems but models from Austin after ramp should be good

Bro, this is the DOPEST review OF ANY CAR EVER. I had a 3, wife fell pregnant with baby 2 and we flipped it and bought a Y. It is the the absolute bomb. Love our Y, same spec as yours. Keep making more of these, they’re hilarious 🤣👏🫡

Ive wanted a Tesla since I test drove the model S about 5 years ago, was waiting for the model Y and was happy to see the Aussie RWD version released with way better value than US or UK versions. Fingers crossed it'll be a durable vehicle that will outlast the average car lifespan.

Greetings mate from Finland - the Santa land of thousand lakes. Excellent video! I drive a Hyundai Ioniq EV and I don't (yet) own a Model Y but seeing your video and being also a dad of two I want to swap my Ioniq to a Model Y more than before. Great work!
Finland is one of our dream countries to live in (not just visit). If you want an ev to get you around, keep Hyundai, great reliable cars. BUT if you want to have a massive smile every time you drive?

I think I've watched every Model Y video on YT and this was the funniest by far. Yet also really informative. The only thing you didn't touch on is your opinion of ride quality as that has been an area of controversy. Keep up the good work!

Sam, this is a wonderful review! I am seriously thinking of ordering a Y or a 3 myself, after years of being a Tesla sceptic. I went for a test drive and I was convinced. A little apprehensive about doing everything through the screen, but then I found out about the voice command feature which gave me considerably more confidence.
You'll enjoy having everything centralised in due time. Turning child lock on and off on screen instead of opening the door is nice. Also being able to turn on the interior dome lights on and off on the screen instead of reaching over for the light button is nice too. Glove box is annoying and wipers are annoying though.

They're stock. Upgrade on Tesla site to Induction 20inch wheels. Don't get the standard 19 inch wheels. The black inductions look so much better. You do lose about 30km in range, but you'll look gangster so it's worth it.

Hey I recommend just getting your car evaluated (they're fair) but also put it up on sale second hand. I eventually sold it 2 days before Tesla delivery day second hand. Got at least 3k more.
@samuel_nam thanks mate. Quick followup. Do you see any issues with the sunroof specially during summer? Did you have to get a cover for it or get it tinted?
@Dimashup so they say it blocks heat by absorbing it and also blocks uv by 99%. But in reality the roof absorbing the heat makes it very warm above your head. It's not enough to go out and get a shade for it, but definitely noticeable in 30+ degrees heat. Pre conditioning AC before getting in is a must. Then you won't feel it as much. I didn't get roof tinted. Only tinted front windows to match thr back.

By the way, your video is really impressive and filled with helpful information. Regarding the Autopilot options, have you upgraded to Enhanced Autopilot or Full Self-Driving Capability? Or are you using the Basic Autopilot? I would appreciate any advice you could provide to help me choose the best option!

I upgraded to EAP but got it refunded.
The standard autopilot is enough for us. In this video, you'll see EAP features like auto lane change, and self parking.
Only thing I need from EAP is summon, but it doesn't work without GPS. so underground carparl won't work, which makes it useless for me. I'm making a video on auto pilot soon.

Totally agree. My oversight in putting this shot in. If you look carefully I couldn’t keep both eyes closed. Very dangerous and do not condone it. Won’t happen in future videos.
How did you go with the charging solution in the apartment. Found that I can live with that but sometimes I really wish I could charge my model Y in my apartment.
A free fast charger opened up 3 mins from my place at a shopping complex. So that's working for nr right now.

Yeah, I use Premiere Pro to edit. Trying to make a shift to Davinci Resolve, but my muscle memory prevents me~~

Failing hard. They told me to come to the owners corporation meeting at the end of the year
You can add 5 widgets. Drag the fifth one to the far right of that list of 4 and it will add it. Try a few times and you might need to tap on one of the 4 icons when dragging. I learned that one today. Also learned that you can simply hold the climate control to turn it off rather than going all into it to power off. Another fun one is to use voice commands and say open butt hole lol. Charge port opens. Last one, there is an emergency release in the trunk to release the charger form port lock. It’s a tab tucked in the upper section inside the back where the charger is.

Good handy review BUT please do not change bubs on the side of the road like that ever again. ALWAYS repeat ALWAYS get yourself off the main road and up a side road. Have attended too many rear ended fatalities. Cheers

I really wish the built quality was better, my Model Y has rattles, and squeaks almost everytime going over small bumps on the road.

You can't. Need to use public charges and it sucks.

Hey Sam, I have a 1 year old that i'll be driving around in car seat. With the way the safety latch is designed, in case of emergency, how are we suppose to get our child out from the outside because we definitely need to run over to the back seat to lift the kid out. With a low rate of spontaneous combustion, I would still like to be ready for this situation.
I wouldn’t run out. Best you take them out from the inside using the mechanical emergency handle to open the door. Jump into the back seat. Best to familiarise yourself with where the handle is. Also if you bought the LFP battery (standard range model 3/y) there’s very little to no chance of combustion happening. Even the NCA batteries are 10x less likely compared to ice cars. Though if it does happen, ev fires are sooo much harder to put out.
@@thesamuelnam There was a guy in vancouver and his Tesla Y combusted while parked and the guy nearly escaped and kicked open his driver side window and climbed out. It didn't take long to engulf the entire car maybe 15-30seconds. Can't imagine how i'm going to jump to the back seat, reach down to the passenger emergency latch fumble a bit and unhook my baby from the seat. There was a hack that someone did to hook a handle to the latch which im going to do, so its easier to pull without fumbling through. And unfortunately, I ordered the long range Y which seems to be NCA. This is really poorly designed, I wish there was a master unlock on the driver side just like the window control.
FYI, I don't think it's a good idea to have the little one in the rear seat (especially the rear left seat) while charging.
