  • A simple fix for most of the Lenovo Yoga (and not only), where the computer is on, but there is no image on the screen. This one's particular model number is c940-15irh.
Do you want us to handle the repair for you? Go to www.comptechnyc.com and fill up the "contact us" form.

Fantastic! Thank you very much for this fix. It worked perfectly on my wife's c940 Yoga. She was hinting at buying a new laptop for 1,200 but I fixed it for the price of a Torx T7 or T8 screwdriver for 8.97 at Home Depot. Your delivery of the information and demonstration was clear, concise and easy to follow. I was confused why you said to press the power button for 30 sec. AFTER disconnecting the battery (I forgot about the CMOS battery). I did as you suggested and voila! - done in 20 minutes. Keep up the good work.

Man thank you so much! I have Lenovo yoga 7i I barely used it but the warranty expired a month ago, I took it to Best Buy and they couldn’t turn it on and they said is the motherboard, then I took it to a fixing store and they told me the same, I was about to trow it in the trash, and I see this video I did this and now is working perfect! Thank you so much for your help!!!!

This was really helpful. Thank you! I had the same problem where disconnecting the main battery to do the power drain wasn't enough. Your video helped me realize I also needed to disconnect the smaller battery, and it was really helpful you mentioned to give it a second when you turned it back on. At first I didn't think it worked, but then after a few minutes it did turn on! Thanks again!

I have a yoga 920-13ikb, this just happened yesterday where the screen went black. I heard it could also be a ram issue but my symptoms are exactly as described as yours. How do I tell if it's a ram issue or firmware issue like you say?

  • @Matt.Toschlog
    @Matt.Toschlog 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Thanks! I did this and it seems to be working. HOWEVER: A note of caution for others trying this -- my Yoga has a rubber strip along the edge near the hinge, and this strip conceals a few screws. On a machine like this, I think you need to pop off the strip (which I didn't do) and then take out the screws.

I tried draining the battery fully and then booting it up and it worked. But when I restarted it again, it stopped working. But this time even when I drained the battery fully, it has still not worked. Any suggestions?

Did this on my yoga 260. I even did unplug the bios battery and the ram. Nothing works. It turns on, keypad lights on but not the caplock. All i can hear is the fan. Removed ssd and tried to boot it fom another computer. It boots after taking ages but screen remains frozen on the windows page. Wonder if windows 10 could be the culprit? My ssd files are accessible if plugged to another pc as an external drive.

Wait, so you basically just reseated the machine and that's it? I'm going to try that and see what I get. Do you know if there is any way to test whether the bios fix worked and was reset without removing the motherboard and messing with that bios battery? Thanks for the video! I bought my C940-14IL as an open-box special last year and it started giving me the random "black screen, unresponsive display" thing around 4-6months ago, only when I was on battery power. I was worried maybe something had critically failed.

I have a Lenovo yoga 730-13” and the monitor started glitching a few months ago, now it doesn’t work at all. If I plug it in to an external monitor I can use the laptop. So it appears it’s just the monitor/ screen. Is this video the fix for that? I don’t want to take it to a repair shop and be told I need a whole new motherboard. Thanks for your videos!

Have been dealing with Lenovo (premium on-site support 4yr with accidental damage adder) on this issue with my daughter's laptop for 2yrs now. 4 replaced motherboards and a replaced battery and it continues to happen intermittently (happened yesterday). Lenovo will not admit a wide spread issue and will not replace the laptop or refund. This fix works great, but if you are scared of opening the computer, just leave the computer "on" (you can hear it running, keyboard/power button lit up) and let it run over night to drain the battery (takes 4-8hrs). Once you plug it in, it will boot fine. Replicating the power drain shown in this video. Too bad Lenovo isn't recognizing this issue!!!!

Had the same problem described here with a nearly new Yoga 7i. Disconnected and then reconnected the battery. Closed it back up. Now I have the orange light next to the power input blinking orange continually. And no battery indicator on the bottom right side of the screen. I'm able to type this because the computer can put an image up on a Panasonic TV via a USB-C, then HDMI adapter connection. Help! I need this computer for work. Paid way too much for it for this.

So I have managed to have access to the other side of the motherboard but I couldn't see any CMOS battery the centre middle side of the motherboard is covered by copper foil, and both side of the motherboard are the fans. Please help me to shed more ideas regarding the CMOS.
Iam experiencing exactly the same symptoms you have described in the video.

    Hi,
thanks a lot for the video ant the detailed explanation!!! I got two problems with my Lenovo X1 Yoga Gen 2 (20JE) and I hope you can help me.
    1. Since about a week, when I turn on the X1, the screen starts flickering with showing strange horizontal lines when the Lenovo logo is being displayed. Sometimes the screen turns completely black. Everything works fine with the external display. Sometimes it helps to login and turn the display brightness down to the minimum and the display works fine. When the battery level is going down close to the minimum the screen starts flickering again, when the brightness has been increased again. I found some articles saying that I will have to replace the OLED-cable (WQHD eDP Cable / LCD Cable ( 450.0A90A.0011); pretty short cable just going from the motherboard inside the cover of the hinges to the top cover ) others mention the LCD cable (the long, copper coloured one with a V-shape, glued on the rear side of the display). What is your opinion in this case? Could it really be one of the cables? For accessing the BIOS chip, I will have to take the motherboard out, because I didn’t find it on the rear side. I will give it a try, today.
    2. The second problem is a little bit awkward. I set the supervisor password in BIOS and am sure that I wrote down the correct one. This was when I got the X1, years ago. Unfortunately, it does not work anymore. How can I reset it, without having the BIOS chip being replaced? I found a TH-cam video where it was mentioned that it might help to shorten the pins 1 and 2 of the BIOS chip when powering the X1 on to be able reset the supervisor password. Is this correct? Did you try that, too? I am a little bit concerned, when it comes to just shorten pins on a motherboard. … or is there another, better/easier method that you could recommend?
    Best regards!

Or sometimes, back light goes off, but the power light stays on, and nothing else happens, except the SSD chip gets hot. Tried the trick above and it didn't work. Does anyone have any other ideas? Just a guess ( had this issue on a Dell laptop) - order a new battery and replace it, see if it solves the issue. This only works if the keyboard has a delay when typing. You can always return the battery if it turns out not to be the issue.

I'm currently trying it for my 920 as well. There's no bios battery and I read somewhere that I should remove the main battery and then use a connector to short the positive and negative on the motherboard. MAKE SURE BATTERY IS DISCONNECTED. I haven't tried it yet as I came here to look for more info.

Has anyone tried replacing the bios chip? I tried this, it worked for 2 days, then had the same problem again. I've done it 4 times now... getting tired of pulling screws. If i did, replace the BIOS chip, am I looking for the exact same part, or will that just come with the exact same problems? Should I get a BIOS chip for a different computer? Are they brand or OS specific? Thanks for any advice,

For the Lenovo slim pro 7 x there is no need to flip the whole motherboard to get to the Bio/CMOS battery, it's simply under the normal battery on the right side

I have a Yoga 7 with this problem. Unfortunately this did not fix the issue. Even unplugged the bios battery. Sigh
