"You're like a toddler in a wheelchair trying to take on the New England Patriots." It's entirely possible that that line ages poorly in the post-Brady era.

Worst thing about MegaTen: Aliment Moves missing when the enemy is immune to them. Since honestly, unless you're so jaded that you figure Aliments will never work or you just give up, chances are that someone will attempt to inflict the status a number of times to no results. Seriously, just have it say "Blocked" or something to that effect instead of giving a false hope that it might work
Not a MegaTen game but Digimon Cyber Sleuth does that. Feels weird when I switch between Cyber Sleuth/Hackers Memory and MegaTen games as I get used to how Digimon handles it.
There's literally a resistance called Void/Null (along with Repel and Drain), and you can have Ailments as a whole Nulled with a certain Magatama. There's no reason why it can't just say "Null" if you use an Ailment on an Ailment-Immune enemy. The only excuse I can think of is that Ailment isn't an attack type, rather something typically tied to Curse, Mind, and Nerve attacks (a good amount of which don't do damage and are JUST ailment moves).
@@espurrseyes42 I have no clue if this is true but if I had to guess the game runs rolls the die for if the ailment hits before checking immunities, resulting in all the misses that should just be null, then if you hit you get the immune damage result. This has upset me as well because it has killed me in boss fights before.
Hi nyarly, as someone who beats hardtype (the even harder, modded version of nocturne) I suggest you try and grind more. Max health is very important in hard difficulty, and also you should try and fuse life bonus and things like that, as well as life drain and elemental resistances. You can find life drain with Incubus and Succubus. You might think Daisoujou with meditation will do, but actually you can use life drain on others to give you more opportunities to deal damage. Only two demons were hit? Well, let them use life drain for chip damage and heal themselves, and Daisoujou can just hit enemy too since he doesn't need to spend the turn to heal. Elemental resistances in general, even if its only "Res" and not null or repel, is still excellent because reduced damage means more breathing room. And since you're in the fourth kalpa already, I think its also possible to fuse some null elements too. (Also, I think kikuri-hime has anti-ailment as one of her skills? Maybe you can do a fusion chain to let others learn it.

However, to keep myself as blind as possible, I won't be able to watch this series until I'm done with my first playthrough. Can't wait to come back and watch your descent into madness with this challenge!
Raidou it's actually more of an improved version of Dante instead of a character that pretty much has the same moveset as Dante with a different animation. The movesets are sure similar but there is subtle differences that makes the character a lot better like Raidou's Raidou the Aeon, Passive skill that Multiplies equipper's all damage dealt by 1.5 and all physical/ phys-almighty attacks bypass target's most resistances except for repel. Outright a superior version of Son's Oath that has Physical Pierce basically making Raidou actually useful for endgame bosses including Lucifer. Weird how the Shin Megami Tensei Wiki translated his moveset yet I it was translated before someone actually translated the final version of Nocturne?
I did a no buff/debuff run a few weeks ago, it was pretty fun (it's on my channel if you're curious). I'm a bit confused on some of your strategies (for example, why not use Iyomante magatama for Daisoujou and Mizuchi?), but its cool to see some of the route differences. I didn't bother with TDE since Lucy will require way too much luck grinding; I wish you luck with that.
8:52 If I recall correctly, the only way you can escape battles on Hard Mode is to have a party member who who has an escape battle skill. One of the earliest instances I can remember where you can get one is from a shady broker in the 1st Amala Level, who sells a fusion fodder Picasa with many exploration related skills.
@Mikhiel Rearaxin Dragon Quest buffs are pretty good. It is just the games are generally built to be easy so people will just grind levels instead of using buffs at lower levels.
Fire emblem games have good buffs, at least 6 and 7 do, as far as I know, small boosts to stats make a big difference in those games, and they can last awhile depending on the buff (dancer buffs are 1 turn but holy water res buff lasts awhile, weakens over time) either way, each combat REALLY matters in fe6/7 (at least on the harder difficulties ) and buffs help a ton, especially in an Ironman

Though, it’s funny: I should like Dante more, since I’ve actually played DMC but I haven’t played Devil Summoner. Yet somehow I think Raidou is cool regardless, enough for me to be perfectly fine taking him over Dante.
@@isenokami7810 As someone who grew up around both Megaten’s PS2 era and DMC (primarily played DMC till I got older) I can totally see the appeal of both.
For me I really wanted to complete the experience I had with the ps2 version and Dante since I was late playthrough when the remaster got announced and I also wanted to hear his voice acting.
When seeking the thrill of death is not hard enough...
Shoutouts to the Chronicle version getting an HD port, dating this video to hell.
A few weeks ago when I saw this, I got the courage to give the game another try after I decided to put it down out of difficulty. I stopped playing at Matador, but watching you suffer without using buffs helped me realize that I should be able to beat the game with buffs. Currently, I’ve made it just past the fairy part and I hope I can finish the game. Good luck in part 2!
"They did, in fact, not beat it"
Obligatory Featuring Dante From Devil May Cry joke
When you hear the song go:
"We'll sacrifice the son of Heaven!

"Man's greatest glimpse of fire red!"
It means this run

"You're like a toddler in a wheelchair trying to take on the New England Patriots."
It's entirely possible that that line ages poorly in the post-Brady era.
27:26 I remember when my apartment ceiling got water damage once, it looked just like the 2nd Kalpa.
"Welcome to the Salty Spitoon, how tough are ya?"
As steep as the difficulty curve is for Nocturne, I did find myself enjoying the heavy focus on buffs and debuffs as well as how a turn can be reused if a critical hit is made or weakness is attacked.
I just hope smt strange journey redux without fusing is next
Edit: why would anybody pick someone else over Dante also known as the gay cowboy
Raidou and Dante are just about equal in skills, tgo I believe Raidou has the advantage if Pierce.
@@dantemustdie00 that may be true but he isnt funny and thats all that matters
Yeah, he's motherfuckin Dante. Who wouldn't want him terrorizing you in the third kalpa
Ah, so this is what happens when someone goes to hell
So I suppose you at least go to heaven or are reborn when you finally beat it
Raidou would have made slightly more sense as a boss than some random dude who likes pizza.
I think you meant Kawamommy*
If you don't have Pixie in your party at all times, you deserve whatever comes to you.
Dolphinboi I think Dante and the Demi-fiend are both designed by Kazuma so it sort of makes sense. I agree that Raidou is a better match however.
@@calebgoodman2076 I would like a version of the game with every addiction from all the versions of the game
How tho when the guy was living in the past? Haven't you played any Devil Summoner game? And Even though I haven't played the 1st game, the 2nd title looks better aka Raidou Kuzunoha vs Soulless Army, or Raidou Kuzunoha vs King Abaddon, the king Abaddon version is a sequel to the previous one, and currently am playing the soulless army version, an Action Shin Megami Tensei Title, the game is just amazing 10+ hours in and I can tell already why would atlus favor him instead of any other smt protagonist.
abidalmohimen Rashed Dante isn’t even from the same universe. Also in SMT3 Chronicles Raidou has an ending cutscene where he returns to his world and types about the events in the Vortex World. Something they never did for Dante.
@@calebgoodman2076 Considering it’s DMC 2 Dante one can assume he got into some portal shenanigans during his journey through hell at the end and got out the same way he got out in his own series.

AKA: how my dumb kid self tried playing before giving up because I thought the game broken.
not poorly balanced, mind you, literally broken. I thought a light scratch on the disc was why it was so hard.

Ummm I have no words to describe how bad that logic is.

You DO realize one of the things Hard Mode does is make it impossible to retreat from battles, right?
8:50 Haven't finished the video but um. Just wanted to say on hard mode you have a 0% chance of escaping without items hence why you could never run away
Just got nocturne the other day and have been an absolute blast playing through it. Love how the game doesn't hold your hand at all, it's wonderful. However, to keep myself as blind as possible, I won't be able to watch this series until I'm done with my first playthrough. Can't wait to come back and watch your descent into madness with this challenge!
@Retendo it's my first smt game so I went for normal.
Small note, from what i understand, petrification does work on the virtues and most other rider summons except black rider's legions.
It's...beatable, I actually suffered greatly completing the game blindly after Persona 3 and, arguable, buffs/debuffs were less busted in personas.
Me coming back to this series for the 5th+ time because I’m playing through nocturne casually and got genuinely lost
You said “You get a call from Lucifer” so casually
The SMT challenge runs are so interesting to watch. Keep up the good work, sir!
"That's hell your walking into"
Guy who played Nocturne without buffs/debuffs
fun fact. the first 2 rider minions are weak to stone. so since they cant move and he cant call new ones its just wasted turns on their side.
Pour one out for Nyarly...
I mean, he isn't dead YET, but its just a matter of time at this point.
Jack frost is like the pikachu of SMT

Raidou it's actually more of an improved version of Dante instead of a character that pretty much has the same moveset as Dante with a different animation.
The movesets are sure similar but there is subtle differences that makes the character a lot better like Raidou's Raidou the Aeon, Passive skill that Multiplies equipper's all damage dealt by 1.5 and all physical/
phys-almighty attacks bypass target's most resistances except for repel.
Outright a superior version of Son's Oath that has Physical Pierce basically making Raidou actually useful for endgame bosses including Lucifer.
Weird how the Shin Megami Tensei Wiki translated his moveset yet I it was translated before someone actually translated the final version of Nocturne?

*I CHALLENGE YOU TO A DUEL*
I did a no buff/debuff run a few weeks ago, it was pretty fun (it's on my channel if you're curious). I'm a bit confused on some of your strategies (for example, why not use Iyomante magatama for Daisoujou and Mizuchi?), but its cool to see some of the route differences. I didn't bother with TDE since Lucy will require way too much luck grinding; I wish you luck with that.
Dang this is insane
He forgot. He only remembered to get it once he got stuck on Red Rider
Smt: Nocturne, now sorta featuring Dante from the devil may cry series
The troll guarding the 1000 yen bill is affected by hama and mudo. You didn't have to confuse him.

Stone gaze works wonders on virtue and the other angels, the skelly monk is a true pain to fight. Unlike any other fiend and boss I've encountered
God, I can't believe I still keep coming back to this. I know the Arsene only run isn't happening, but I miss these runs
You know how hard a game is when playing the game without debuffs or buffs is considered a legitimate challenge.
41:52 That to be continued meme at the end always gets me. 😂
Manawall in FFVIIR is such a useless spell to me, I didn't even use it during the final boss. Why do that when I can use cura and phoenix downs?
Dont use barrier materia in hardmode, gl
@@thanatosdraga If you spam disorder, you can stunlock most enemies.
@Mikhiel Rearaxin FF10 and 12 have pretty good buffs.
FF13 has good support skills too, it's the only good part of that game XD

Now excuse me while I go rewatch the smt5 trailer for the tenth time
This is a good video to watch during this hard time. Can't wait for part two.
The story you convey in the video is so good (overall ones) that it makes me think why I battle through the areas.
Also after getting divine shot, the game became more enjoyable
I started playing p5 again using buffs/debuffs and oh my god it changed everything
