Stu, she's looking better every week! And the sailboat is looking good too! When we repainted our Balboa in 'Sea Foam' green and applied her name, 'PAWS' (we had seven cats at that time) folks kept asking if we were affiliated with the 'Performing Animals Welfare Society', it became easier to just say yes and tell them to donate to the cause!... 😹

Two points... (1) best advert ever, Marina you have a real skill there, listened to it all. (2) Seabird is very lucky to have found the both of you. Really good episode.
I guess this is late... but Maybe for other parts of the boat use this technique:
"The roll & tip method is a non-stop, fast-moving, two-person endeavor where one person applies a thin coat of paint with a roller, and the other person follows immediately behind with a brush to remove the roller stipple ('orange peel' texture) and smooth out the surface." I've tried this and works really good. Use the brush "lightly" as you only want to "feather" the paint to get rid of the texture left by the roller.

Some time ago I saw on another channel people painting their boat not standard whit but ice white. Amazing difference. Made the boat pop.
My geography teacher once told me the coldest time of day is 1 hour after sun rise.
Hopefully you go with either the classic mystic blue that you see on the beautiful Hinckley sailboats with a silver or gray stripe.. thats my favorite look

Wow that’s a transformation already as the hull becomes increasingly uniform in appearance. This will be one of the biggest psychological boosts that will keep giving for weeks every time you see her in her newfound gleaming majesty.

The boat is starting to take on a whole new look, and that’s just with the primer coats. Your hard and persistent work is really starting to pay off. When the boat is finished it’s going to look amazing. Congratulations. Keep up the good work and do things correctly, don’t rush. 👌👍🍻
Good job you two. A little tip when you get to the top coats (probably too late by the time you read this) when you roll the paint vertically have somebody coming behind you tipping off the roller stripe edges with a good bristle brush. Makes the paint smooth out to the next wet edge.
Tip and roll.
We'll see how the first coat of the finish goes.

that was a surprise onto painting the hull looks great , once you do your last coat of primer use a cork or rubber sanding block flatten it down with 180 or 220 grit ,but dont break through the primer to old paint , it will be super smooth paint job very shiny or leave it be and you will show all the orange peel and roller effect and have dirt discolouring it very easily as it sticks to the rough finish , unless your using a two part paint and plan to flatten that and polish it bright and smooth

@@SailingSeabird 400 will be even better less chance of leaving scratch sand marks that would show in final finish bit is a slow hard work add soapy dish water liquid saves clogging the paper and makes for light easier sanding

Using different coloured primers is standard practice in some industries. It ensures the applicators put the second coat over the entire area. If you use two coats of the same colour it can be easy to miss areas with the second coat. Keep it up, you're doing a great job!
I know that there is a delay in the release of the videos, but for future reference Isopropyl alcohol will break down the bond of the SikaFlex and make it much easier to remove -- next time just pre-soak it with that!! So glad to see you in the shed!!! Best iof luck on the paint job!!

having watched hundreds of sailing channels over the years, yours and a couple more are the only ones i still watch. it all got too much "reality TV" for me and im not about to waste my time seeing ppl living their own - as much as mine, boring lifes - .
since im also refitting my boat i find a connection with your channel and you guys keep it real. so good on ya!!
