***** I don't want to start an argument, but MY and only MY opinion is that Dota is more of a team game and you always need your team in which League Of Legends, you can outsmart the enemy players and pull it off on your good ol' 1 v 3. League is mainly based on your decisions and your predictions, whilst dota, you have to depend on everyone as well as yourself. I rather have more outplays and outsmarts on a 1 v 1 situation than wait for a team fight. I am not saying that League is better, I am just saying that League is more based on your wits and skills.
And again, I do not want to start an argument but maybe a debate. ;) But at the end, the both are peoples choices and how they want to play it.

Dota is much more complex it doesn’t really have a higher skill cap it just has more random stuff in it. Btw I play dota. 1800 hours in dota and 700 in league. But meh I quit both I just play team fight tactics now

I have put quite a few hours into both games, ranging around 1000+ in each. I have one simple thing to say about why I personally enjoy Dota more. I don't mind only getting a few truly free characters a week, but I do hate that when I grind out to buy a champion that looks cool and has sweet abilities (aatrox, fiddlesticks last season) they are so nerfed and out of meta that it is litteraly next to impossible to play the champion well. In the hands of experienced players sure, but as a casual it is quite annoying. In dota no characters are ever out of the meta. They are all balanced in ways to make sure they fit in with almost any team (As long as your team isn't a bunch of bastards and pick all carries and no support). Sure some characters like Phantom Assasin, Legion Commander, and Bristleback may seem annoying at first until someone uses voice chat and tells you that shadow blade is an amazing item (Invisibility). I understand the learning curve is greater in dota however I feel it is more enjoyable for beginners for being able to actually communicate with your team rather than getting pissed that a yasuo level 6 just one shot your whole team. Anyways that's my personal points.
um if you played 1000 hours of league and dota you should be good enough at your champion (league) to be good at them even after their nerf
agreed. nerfs dont matter that much if you know what you're doing ~and just to say, I play both games too, and dota is not that paradise of balance you described brother ...both are great games. imo though the learning curve in dota is lame , I mean, most heroes are so mechanically easy to play that you don't have a true opportunity to display some good moves ( BUT THE ITEMS ARE SO COOL )

You got a friend and he wants to play a moba and he has to choose between league or dota what would he choose the realistic game with lots of items or the game that has fun graphics and an easier learning curve. First of all you have to consider your friend as a casual player so he prob won't play from 8am to midnight. everyday he is free. (Yes i play a lot of league but i don't consider league the better game i do love league way more than dota because it has a lots of good and fun memories from my childhood).

A lot people including myself don't want to grind an entire week to unlock one character. The very expensive skins on top of it don't help. I don't want to grind a week to unlock a character but then realize there is a cool skin for them that I have to pay real life money for. I just don't like that. Some people may do. I don't.

I'd say smite is a bit different than both of these. Smite is 3rd person while LoL and DOTA are top-down. And Smite has different modes. Smite is comparable but I'd say its more different than LoL and DOTA are.

Ever since before and after i revealed my addiction on DOTA 2 to my parents and my sister i've become a little bit stronger in playing DOTA 2 Rank Mode and my versatility rate is the most higher on my stats so far since i've been risking on using some heroes that i'm not familiar on their skills and movesets
Back then when i was still a total noob, playing DOTA 2 for the first time 5 years ago i was using support heroes every game but now i ascended a bit and i play rough and strategic so hard that my stamina is draining too fast.

Dota 1 and 2 are more complex than LoL tbh. Was a Dota player before with 2000+ hours on dota 2, transferred to LoL for about 2 years now and I can personally say Dota is more complex than League. League has a forgiving gameplay as they don't have denying, runes like haste, illu etc. camp stacking etc. In Dota you seriously need to deny, control the rune spots, stack camps for your carry, defend the barracks as they dont respawn like the inhibitors in League, and they have more complex heroes than League. Yeah sure league has broken champs like ryze, azir, rengar, fiora but Dota has more broken abilities. Forget zed outplays, dota has invoker and its not easy using all 10 abilities and adapting on how the fight is progressing. Also Dota has the 'comback' feature. In League if you feed that fiora you will surely lose unlike dota where if you make the right decisions you can still win the game even if the team score is 26-40.

i think arguments like this are like arguing between something like Terraria and Minecraft. People argue and ramble to the point where the comunity is considered "toxic", but its a pointless arguement, just because the games in question are similar in some way doesn't mean that they are the same. I think people need to understand the reasons people play each games. I would play Silent Hill to get scared senseless, not to have a good laugh, and I watched Psych for its mystery and comedy, not for fantasy. False both games have there ups and down but both games present a challenge. For league which is my preferred moba its thr fact that you constantly have to learn new champs metas and matchups constantly that makes it a challenge. I played mostly braum morg and xin and then took a 4 month break, came back and at that time it was all about sona morg janna and in jungle was about the tanker jungle instead of the damage jungle. League also has a different set up, the more one v one lanes with jungler in the mix of it adds to the fact that different roles play a different impact every meta, from the juggernaut tops to the assassin mid and the execution junglers. I'm not saying that league is better but the game may be easier to pick up but it has a high skill cap as well. Look at a low elo sylas and a challenger sylas it's just as big of a gap as any other game

It might be a moba but it removes the rts feel that other mobas have and replaces it with more of a shooter feel. I mean really how can you compare a shooter to an rts? I enjoy LoL but a day of nothing but Smite once every week or two is pretty refreshing for me.

At this point tbh both game's learning curves has grown and since dota 2 was already hard before it just got harder and that really intimidates the newer players such as my friend who I tried to pull to dota but then on the time where he was playing by himself he gets paired with higher level players even though he's new so before he could even learn he just got discouraged

The winner is Smite. The original Dota mod was based on the Starcraft mod Aeon of Strife. The AoS mod was based on a multiplayer mode from a game called Future Cop: LAPD, which was a THIRD-person shooter. The reason why mobas started out with isometric controls is because Blizzard's games had every tool to create a moba game... except the proper control mechanics that the genre needed. Having a control scheme in which movement and attacking are both bound to the mouse is meant for controlling multiple units, not a single one. However, because moba traditionalists are afraid of what they are unfamiliar with, most mobas stick to that ill-suited control scheme, holding the genre back. Choose progress, choose Smite.

The intent was to have people vote based purely off of what was presented, not your personal preference. I watched and voted before playing either game, however if it were best tailored story game between The Walking Dead and Mass Effect, I would probably vote for Mass Effect just based on the fact that it's my favorite game. But isn't that the point? More players = more game value = victory? If you have 50 players from each game voting, you'll 99% of the time (or more) get a 50-50 split. The extra players are what proves how great a game is.
If a game is great, it'll catch wind and people will love it. Dota has been out for far longer than League (Including Dota 1 and 2), but League has a far larger and more active player base, growing at a massively larger rate than Dota 2.
I'm happy to wait for the raw polls and see who's won this deadlock. If Dota wins, good for them, no idea how they did it, but good for them. If League wins, w/e, I think most people saw it coming.

I have played DOTA and DOTA2 a small amount (2 matches, and about 20 hours respectively), and have never played LoL. I'd vote LoL here though. I spent hours and hours reading about DOTA to get basic strategy in my head to avoid being dead weight that fellow team members wouldn't rage hard at my ineptitude (which they really seem to love doing). But after reading all of that, to become not terrible I then needed to play as every character a minimum of one time each to begin getting my head around what they can do. That's like 100 hours to be considered no longer a complete noob. As much as I liked the idea of playing more DOTA, i couldn't put enough effort into it.
Before this video, I'd always considered LoL to just be a DOTA clone (which is still kind of seems like). But the accessibility sounds good.
In my opinion here's what i think about the two giant MOBA Giants:
League of Legends = Marvel
Dota 2 = DC Comics
Smite = Darkhorse Comics

As a follow up, LoL was argued for better beginner experience, but I absolutely detest my options being limited to a Champion rotation. I play neither LoL or DotA, but if I was to choose one, I'd definitely side with one that lets me look at the characters and choose ANY of them to play in a real environment, as practice vs. bots only gets you so far.
The Rexxar The thing is, when a new player enters your game, lets look at a general mmorpg for this example, they want to ease into the experience. If you start them off and right after they barely, if not at all, learned the mechanics do you really want to throw 1000 quests, sidequests, random events, global events, etc., at them? No, this instantly shoves a huge portion of gamers away, not even just casuual players. A while back I tried hopping into DOTA and was met by a menacing face. I got into the tutorial, did a few odds and ins, but within hour one I had learnt about a different shop, dangerous to reach on top of that, specific methods of aquiring items, and i could go on with all the complications of the game. Is the game bad? Not at all! But it's seriously lacking what it needs to introduce new people to the game. Though some people are willing to spend their first 100 hours of a game learning the basics, a huge, huge amount of gamers are simply not willing to. People that love lore and background and complacations have turned away from DOTA because they don't get a chance to enjoy their first moments. DOTA is a great game by all means, but because of how it was made it will never be able to grow at a steady rate, once all of the players willing to go though this start get on the game, it flatlines. As for the huge prizepools mentioned in this video, they failed to mention that it is also backed by Valve, one of the biggest companies out there, Riot relies on who? Riot, one game, one fanbase, one income.

League is more accessible, sells to a larger audience because it's for all ages, and has a bit flatter of a learning curve so more people can hop right in and burn hours.
Dota is just a more serious version of League. The tougher mechanics and gameplay, decision making, punishment, and strategy puts you in a position to get better. 500 hours into Dota means you just completed the bootcamp part of it all (depending on how fast you learn, that's just the avg number I see for noobs)
League takes less time to invest into it, while Dota is taking more. When Dota is taking more it can be stressful, such as not knowing how to play around new players/feeders/previous League players. Even foreigners. While Dota now has a soft region lock with it's new Source 2 update, it doesn't come close to how good League of Legend's region lock is unmatchable and amazing.
Dota is more popular in China, Southeast Asia, and Europe. While League is more popular in South Korea, and North America. The only way Dota catches up with League in players is if League dies or gets worse updates, or doesn't get as frequently updated, doesn't do anything about it's balance, etc.
The only reason why Dota has higher prize pools is because even League players view it as a tougher game, and the one that spawned it all. People usually respect that and just move on.
I'm sure something like 15 Million is Dota's new player count while league is like 40 Million I believe. Could be a little off, either way I'm close and that doesn't take away from the fact that League is just more accessible and more appealing because of pop culture references and how easy it is to play and get into it with your friends. Dota is less accessible because it is harder and believe it or not, players are way more mean than League players will ever be.
Take your choice: The easy, accessible, fun MOBA. Or the high skill-cap grind fest, more rewarding eSports scene MOBA.

The thing is though professional league players get paid by Riot on top of what their team pays them. Like the Koreans who went to play in China got paid close to a million dollars. Riot treats LoL like an acutal sport by giving everyone a living wage. Dota2 just has tournament with huge prizepools and Riot's prizepools are nothing to sneeze at either. To say the least Riot is more actively involved in their esports than Valve is in their's.

First it was a Starcraft mod, it got popular so they put it in as a game mode in Warcraft III. And now valve bought it and made it awesome. Blizzard get jelly and makes heroes of storm with is a super fun game but not as competitive as dota and maybe LoL. I personally prefer dota 2, but I have played about 100 LoL matches. It's a silly fun game. When I play dota I wanna have fun and win using teamwork, when I play LoL I wanna mess around, maybe troll a bit and I don't care if I lose, because it was fun!!

The point is just that LoL is more for younger players who just want something easy and fun to play, and Dota is for the players who want something more challenging and more realistic looking to play.

They are both highly competitive games and to simple brush one off is foolish. As I read the comment sections of any Dota vs LoL videos, I always notice one very key thing in the argument. 90% of the comments are Dota fans rabidly tearing into LoL, and only 10% are LoL players tearing into Dota. You may think that means Dota is the better game, but League has far more players and therefore is statistically likely to have more eople defending it. So doesn't that just show that the only people who are really anal enough about this argument to care are Dota players? Imo that shows how angry and immature Dota players are, even compared to League which itself has an angry and immature fanbase.

I get what you're saying, but DoTA 1 was a product of *many people's* work. It was a labor of love and it seemed logical to not assign its copyright to anyone specific since it kind of *belonged to the community.* So any argument saying "DoTA's the original" seems silly to me, especially since many of the MOBA games are made by some of the people who also worked on DoTA before (in LoL it's Guinsoo, don't know if there's someone else).
I remember playing against CloudStrife's AI and losing repeatedly in DoTA 1. None of the AIs in DoTA 2 or LoL seem comparable to his. I don't think CloudStrife got paid for that AI. Even if he did I don't think it compares to the amount of people he helped with it. I saw it as his gift to the community. Similar to that, I see the concept of MOBA as a gift to the gaming industry. It isn't owned by Valve, or Riot, or any specific company. It was made by the fans, for the fans. It's the community's. Saying Icefrog owns it sounds quite arrogant to me, since a lot of people before them also put their heart and soul into it, Guinsoo included.
