    Hello Leigh-Anne. Thanks for trying our carrier. All in all, I don't think your cats did badly at all. There were some things you could have done that would have gone a long way toward solving some issues I saw -- the littlest one jumping out, and the cats getting their paws out the collar being the main two. Here's what we recommend: Gather the bottom of the bag up to the collar. Place your cat in front of you, facing away, so it's easy to keep him in place with your other hand or arm around his chest. This lets you slide the collar over his head. Adjust it so it is snug on his neck, with room for one finger to slide under it. Then pull the bag down around him, and zip. The collar does need to be snug. There can't be a gap between it and his neck. It didn't look to me as if you tightened the collar much at all, so your cats were able to begin working their way out. The littlest one could maybe benefit from our small size, and your biggest one, from what I could see, probably would feel better in our extra-large instead of the large. There were all sorts of growls there in the beginning with him, but when you showed him at the end, he seemed to have calmed down. Mostly, I thought your cats seemed to react to it ok. We believe most cats do, but we know all cats are different, so we offer a full refund within 30 days if not satisfied. Since you weren't happy with the results of your test, I hope you were able to take advantage of our refund policy. --- Jeanne, Cat-in-the-bag

      Hi Jeanne, so sorry for missing your comment and for such a belated response - thanks for leaving such a thoughtful comment. Definitely agree that the collar needed to be tightened more and Baby Cat needed the smaller size. Yes, I was able to take advantage of the refund policy and would recommend people trying the carrier out for themselves to see if their cats are open to it since that's a great policy. My main concern in returning it wasn't just that they seemed uncomfortable in it at the beginning, it was that if I left them alone in it for a few seconds, they started to twist and turn in the bag to try to get it off. It made me think that, if we used it to take them to the vet, they'd toss and turn in the passenger's seat and we wouldn't be able to do anything about it whilst driving. Like we said at the end of the video, though, I think that if we'd introduced them to the bag at a younger age, that they would have been much more receptive to it. I'll pin your comment to the top of the comments section on this video so that people can easily read your advice on it. Best, Leigh-Anne

      First off, these cats have GREAT names. All in all, I think this is a clever idea and it helped to see cats of different temperments experiencing the bag. Jeanne's instruction post above is great and make the whole bagging process less intimidating than it appeared in the video. Be it getting a harness on a cat, giving it meds, or smoothly getting it into a regular cat carrier, I find confidence and speed make a huge difference in how a cat reacts. (Get it done so quickly and smoothly that they don't know what hit them, so to speak, and knowing when to give up and let the cat "re-set" before you try again.) Here, I think the key lies in getting the bag over the cat's head and the collar adjusted as quickly as possible. Most cats don't like things on or around their head, especially if it blocks their sight. By gathering the bottom of the bag up to the collar, it gets over the cat's head quicker with less struggling. Cats are creatures of mystery and can surprise us with their reactions to things, so I like the 30 day policy is great because it gives enough time to practice putting the bag on and carrying the cat until it feels comfortable. It may take 1 try or it may take 10....or end up just not being the right thing for your cat. I think I'm going to give it a shot. Again, LOVE the cats' names!!!

      I thought they did great and I'm totally going to buy one of these!!! My cat Harper bloodies his nose really bad on carriers when he goes to the vet so I'm less inclined to take him because I don't want to stress him so much. This is a great alternative and it's almost like a thunder coat!

      I agree. I thought it went as well as can be expected. I tried a cheaper and smaller on of one of my cats to pill him but it easier just to pill him because it was difficult getting him in and keeping his paws in

  • @TatianaBoshenka
    @TatianaBoshenka 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I tried one of these and when I was just testing, it didn't work well, but later when I really needed to take a cat to the vet, I managed to get it on him okay (with some protest by the cat) but then he calmed down and did beautifully. Using the bag, I was able to transport him, medicate him, and give him fluids which would have been impossible without it. The vet called my cat "fractious" but in his bag he's not like that. It's so much easier to treat him when he's in his bag. I love the thing and will use them for all my cats from now on. It truly saved my baby's life.

    • @TatianaBoshenka
      @TatianaBoshenka 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh, and I found that when he pulled his head inside, he did okay like that too. It was easy enough to get the hole back over his neck if I needed to give him a pill or something, but in the meantime just for transport, he was fine whether his head was inside or out. I also don't think it was a problem if he got one paw out the neck hole, so long as he couldn't slip completely through it, as your cat did.

    • @TatianaBoshenka
      @TatianaBoshenka 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Letting him get used to the bag and getting it to smell right helped a whole lot, too. I have it lying flat near his bed and he likes to sleep on top of it. I think smells matter a whole lot to a cat, so once it smelled right to him, and he got used to having it put on him, he fought much less. No carrier or confinement is going to be fun for a cat, because they like self-determination. But this one is the best of any I've ever used. And the benefit of being able to give medicine and fluids with it makes it priceless to me.

    • @LeighAnneMarie
      @LeighAnneMarie  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for sharing your story with the bag, Tatiana! That makes a lot of sense about getting it so that they smell right to them and having them become more familiar with it. Did you find in the car ride to the vet that your cat flopped around in the bag at all? That's the other thing that concerned me, when Howard almost fell off the couch from flopping around when I left him alone for a minute

    • @TatianaBoshenka
      @TatianaBoshenka 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm disabled so I hired someone to carry him to the vet once he was bagged, and the vet and I spoke by phone. I believe the cat transport lady put my kitty in the floorboard area of her back seat, though, so that no flopping around could harm him. I also think you can pass the seatbelt through the handle of the bag to secure the cat in the seat itself (if you want them better cushioned than they would be on the floor). So it wasn't a problem. The vet did also agree that he was much easier to treat when he was inside the bag still. They used to say he was "fractious", but he was only scared. The bag makes him feel safe, so he's much more cooperative both at home and at the vet's office.

    I've had two of these, 2 different sizes, for over 10 years and found this to be the best carrier. I've used it with at least five different cats and once they got used to it, they traveled well. You do have to tighten the neck enough so that they cannot get a paw out. I just took a cat that showed up a few months ago, not completely feral, but an outside cat, and took her to the vet. She did really well. The vet was able to give her shots, take blood, etc, safely, while she remained in the bag. So much nicer than a carrier since you can hug your kitty while you're waiting and she can look out the window while traveling. These are great!

    This is hilarious! Love the humor. Thank you for this light-hearted example of how different cats respond. I still think it's a brilliant idea. Anything would be better than a barf-o-rama in the cat carrier that I go through each time!

      Glad you enjoyed it, Jennifer, it was pretty funny for me to watch back while I was editing as well :) Oh no, a barf-o-rama situation sounds awful! Your cats don't barf when you put them in the bag, though? That's so interesting

    You're saying it didn't work, however considering that you never gave the cats time to acclimate to the bag in any way (leaving it out so they could sleep on it, smell it, etc.) it looks like they all handled it pretty well. Watching your video makes me realize that I would want to open the velcro collar before getting the cat near the bag. That noise would be super loud right next to your cat's ear. I know what I'll be getting for my fur-babies.

    We have a cat in a bag and though our PB didn't much appreciate it, it still is nicer than a carrier as I was able to be able to reach over when driving to the vets and touch my cat as he was seat belted through the handle of the bag to the passengers seat as well as being able to hold him in my lap while in the waiting area. Unfortunately we lost just Chubs due to Cancer. If and when we have another cat we will definitely use the cat in a bag. As with many creatures each cat is unique and has his/her own set of gifts some will adapt easier than others.

    It's to bad there are so many negative comments on here about the "Cat in The Bag" carrier. It allows me to give better care and hygiene to my cats with much less trauma. I'm one that do my 3 cats nails once a month and do there teeth several times a week. I couldn't do this without the cat in the bag carrier. I make sure when I'm done with them I loosen the neck a little and throw some of their favorite food in and just let them eat and chill out inside of the bag. The bag is out all the time for them to interact with when not in use. Going to the vets is also easier instead of making 3 different appointments I now only need to make one and put the cats on my shoulder and walk them in the vets like that. It's a game changer.

    Thanks for sharing. Lots of ads for this popping up for the holidays. You know what actually works? The top of your kennel probably pops off & on fairly easy with just a few latches.
    Remove & DROP Kitty in, instead of forcing through the front door. Then reapply the top. It may help to have a second person, but I’ve done this myself many times.
    I suspect there will be a lot of folks with buyer’s remorse RE this product, as it’s a common challenge for all cat owners - this just isn’t the solution.
    If they start making kitten bags, you could probably get your babies acclimated early - but that’s a whole lot of forethought for people who maybe never owned cats.
    And for most cats this does not look like less stress than a Kennel IMHO. Good demo.

    Thanks for reviewing this product. We have nine cats (including one named Howard!), and there have been one or two times when we've had to take as many as 4 to the vet at the same time. My husband and I are aging, and cannot carry two cats in one carrier anymore; but with one cat per shoulder, we can manage four at a time. I think only Jumoki, who fights everything, and Junior, the former semi-feral, might fight the bag. Ace, Boq, Pertwee, and Oreo would like it, I think; while Thea, Colleen, and Howard would put up with it.

    • @LeighAnneMarie
      @LeighAnneMarie  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aww I love that you have a Howard in your family too :)) You should make a video yourself, showing for all your different cats react! I think it really does depend so much on a cat's personality, background, and age.

    It really work y'all but how you approach the cat and place him in and you got to be calm and not dying of laughter like she is for this to work the cat has to trust you and your energy so take it seriously be quite when doing it be quick so don't joke around and giggle and your cats will love it mine like it so much they go into by themselves.

    • @jeankeats3200
      @jeankeats3200 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Her laughter, I believe, helped. If you're too business like or serious or even nervous, the cat INSTANTLY picks up on that and gets upset too. They take their cues from us. If you remain calm and reassuring the cat seems to work better with you. I learned this through trial and error and the vet teaching us things. If you get upset, I think the cat feels there is something to fear. Anyway, I think her laughing and good attitude helped.

    My cat was recently prescribed a med in tablet form. It is to help control chronic diarrhea he has suffered for years & that makes him very skinny; dangerously skinny. He will need to take it for as long as he lives and I expect that to be years more. I think a bag will make it easier to get the pill down him. @@LeighAnneMarie Hi, Leigh-Anne Marie! Well, we decided to just put her in the bathroom and have the vet come to our home. We have a few in our area that do this. It's not cheap but I was so afraid of struggling with her and inadvertently hurting her back legs in the process of getting her in the crate. I put a soft towel that she's used to in the sink and she just sits there waiting. In the beginning, she yowls and I have to leave the house and let my husband stay with her. It hurts to hear her. I know it's that she doesn't like it but it sounds awful and I just want to let her out. Anyway, the vet came and gave her all her shots and an exam, trimmed her nails and luckily she got a stool sample. Everything is fine. The vet said she's in great shape. She's over 10. I estimate her to be around 12 or 13 so she's a senior. I'm so glad it's done but she's and in/out cat and must have all her shots. She was feral when we met her. One evening I heard this crying and went to look and I saw her crying up at the house. I said, hey, hon, there's a cat crying up at the window! We fed her and from that day on, she's ours. Some lady with two little boys came to our house looking for her so I said, well, she's here if you want her but she wasn't interested. I thought the cat should be with her rightful owner but this lady actually had her spayed. This lady also was letting her mother breed all over the place. Well, she went and had a brood of kittens in our back yard and the cat we took in was so upset that her own mother would not entertain her anymore with new kittens. She refused to eat. My husband was angry and hurt as I was because it's not fair to all these cats. Someone went to the authorities and they made this lady stop letting these cats breed. My husband had to spend $160.00 to have someone take the mother AND her kittens to a shelter. We made sure that they would be treated nicely and allowed to be with the mother until they could be adopted. I cried alot. As soon as her mother and her kittens were gone our cat settled down and was okay. We love her dearly. Anyway, thank you for listening and thank you for the video. I guess you already know I'm a cat fan! XXOO

    All I can say about the bag... Nope. Crates are nope also...
    But a carrier with netting all around it, my friend's cat loves it, he can move freely in it and look all around including look up at my friend while she walks...
    The one she haves is comfortable to carry, haves a long strap that goes around her body plus two smaller straps to hold in her hands. A solid padded bottom so he can lay or sit comfortably, plus when she sits it down he isn't being put on anything hard or uncomfortable for him. Flaps that are clear, you can zip up in case it rains and he can still look out and not get wet, it's breathable when zipped up.

    AWWWWWW!! They are so cute! At least you got them in there. If you can't keep them in that, then at least getting them in the bag, you can then place them in a crate and then they can't escape plus the vet will put them back in the box to take back home. VERY cute though! Our cat is much more feisty. I saw this one vet take a pillow case and put the cat in and then crate him. We have to take our cat to the vet this Saturday and I'm terrified to get her in the crate because, well, let's face it, you only get one shot at it and then the cat knows what you're up to and wants to run.

    • @LeighAnneMarie
      @LeighAnneMarie  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Jean! :) That's a good point, it would be helpful for getting them in a crate, especially if they're not familiar with the bag (ours often automatically make themselves scarce when they see the crate come out haha). Good luck getting your cat to the vet, hope it all goes smoothly!

    Just wanted to let you know, I got her in the crate. She lets me handle her and pick her up but not for long. I picked her up and carried her to the carrier and as I was placing her in, she began to struggle, FAST. My husband came over and helped me remove her paws from the outside and quickly close the top. She was in there! She was screaming on top of her lungs though. The must've heard her in Japan! I cannot stand when she cries. I kept telling her, you'll be right back! It didn't take long, my husband took her there while went to a 24hr. diner and cried and cried until I was exhausted, worrying about her. Finally at a little after 9:00am my husband phoned and said she's done and I'm on my way home with her. I was ecstatic! I stood on the front stoop and helped hold the door while he carried her in the house. We lifted the top and she just stayed in crying. My husband lifted her out and placed her on the floor. She immediately headed for the back door to be let out. She stayed on the deck, looking in the window meowing. I went on the deck and she was meowing and we call it "blooping" where she flops on her back looking for a belly rub. After a while she calmed down and I fed her and gave her water. She fell asleep on her favorite spot on the deck. I was so happy it was over. Anyway, she's QUICK! Before I could even think, she already was struggling so fast but I kept my grip on her, front and back. I do know how to handle cats since I've had many through the years. Thank you for posting about yours, it kind of gave me courage. XO

      Lol Howie is VERY vocal about how he's feeling and he really was not having it! That's a good point, it probably would have that negative association with it then. I think they did pretty well, actually. They weren't thrashing, screaming, or actively trying to get away from you. Like some others have said, if you had tightened the neck and given them time to acclimate to it, I think they would have been fine.

    • @LeighAnneMarie
      @LeighAnneMarie  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, they didn't know what was coming and they trust me, so I didn't expect them to try to get away from me. I don't know if it would've been the same if I'd tried to put them in a second time. Maybe they could have acclimated over time, but there was thrashing with Howard and Wally that you can see in their parts of the video that concerned me. I couldn't imagine actually taking them to the vet in it because of the wiggling around and struggling to get out of the bag - if they had been in the car doing that while I was driving to the vet, they'd be quite distracting as well as potentially hurting themselves with the effort. Like I said at the end of the video, I think it would've been better to introduce them to it at a younger age so that they just always would have been used to it.

    Dx the entire point of making this bag is that they’re supposed to like it! Or like it more than a carrier at least. In a carrier they can at least move around but this bag makes them either sit still or get stuck on the inside of the bag.... idk. It was a good idea but I don’t think it works for all cats.

      @@LeighAnneMarie I could never get my cat in a carrier, I read a few tips, tried them and have success 99% of the time. I bought a larger carrier, tip it upside down (opening at the top) put a light blanket over the hole then when she is sleeping I pick her up and pop her in feet first, she doesn't even know what's happening it's so fast. Of course the carrier is close to where she is sleeping so you don't have far to go....lol. I was thinking of getting one of these pouches as it would be great for trimming her nails however she is fast and furious and would take off the minute I even "tried" putting her in it. Than bending on a couch especially for older people or people with with back problems. Remember it’s not only for transportation to vet but for giving meds performing your own vet healing tasks. She did not do it right use a table and a rubber mat any cat young or senior will get use to it.
