  • An in depth explanation on how to repot and root prune a dwarf meyer lemon citrus tree. I give my advice of a few tips for success and explain why this particular tree needs a repot and what we find when we inspect the root ball.

    Hi, great video (and music) just wondering what season is best for root trimming citrus? Thanks!

      For my bonsai and potted citrus I usually root prune late winter/early spring. When spring hits and the tree start to explode with new growth it gives them ample time to reestablish before the summer heat. You can probably get away with a late fall root prune, but spring seems to be best. They bounce back nice and quick. Cheers

    Great video, love the music. I was just thinking of pruning my Meyer's roots because I don't want to up size this year. How did it turn out after the trim?

      Thanks! It’s actually an older band I played in a few years ago. Free music haha. The root trim went well. It took a few weeks before it really took off, but now it’s growing strong again.

      That's good man, glad you guys were able to make some good music. Also glad your Meyer bounced back good. I need to trim mine but I kinda want it root bound for winter, just not sure if it will reduce the flowering.

    Very informative but wish the music was turned down. It blasts because you have to turn the volume up the hear the narrative.

    How long do we have to wait to fertilize the tree after pruning the roots?

    • @thepepperboi
      @thepepperboi  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would let the roots get established a bit before fertilizing, maybe 3-4 weeks. You may want to consider doing a less concentrated liquid fertilizer the first couple of times. I’ve found that less is more when it comes to fertilizing. Once established the slow release organic fertilizer you can work into the soil is great.

    How come you cut the roots?

    • @thepepperboi
      @thepepperboi  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I trim the roots to make sure it doesn’t get root bound. The roots can wrap around and end up eventually choking off nutrients. I’ve found if you trim the roots you can keep it in the same size pot for a long time. Similar to bonsai.
