How to Propagate Pepper Plants - Cloning Your Favorites
มุมมอง 10K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Easy steps on how to propagate cuttings from your favorite chile plants. Have a robust plant that produced high yields last year? I like to pick out my top yielding plants that are also disease and pest resistant and clone them the following spring (after overwintering). Music Courtesy of WVLNTH - "Tonight Instrumental"

    How long do we have to wait to fertilize the tree after pruning the roots?

    • @thepepperboi
      @thepepperboi ปีที่แล้ว

      I would let the roots get established a bit before fertilizing, maybe 3-4 weeks. You may want to consider doing a less concentrated liquid fertilizer the first couple of times. I’ve found that less is more when it comes to fertilizing. Once established the slow release organic fertilizer you can work into the soil is great.

    Can you clone cuttings with peppers on them? My dogs had a field day with my habaneros and tore two branches with peppers growing on them.

    • @thepepperboi
      @thepepperboi ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s definitely tougher once they are flowering and fruiting as they are no longer in a vegetative state, but still possible. I’d recommend taking cuttings as low on the plant as possible and a heating pad to keep the soil warmer. Rooting hormone powder or gel goes a long way as well. Good luck!

    Beautiful plant before and after!! Is that sundown orange and did you add any supplements to the wate?

    • @thepepperboi
      @thepepperboi 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! Yes I believe so on the color. It kind of changes between more orange to coral the longer the flowers are on the branches. I actually used just water for quite some time to take it as easy as possible on the roots. After a couple months to let the roots establish I gave it a flower boosting liquid fertilizer to promote flowering. I’ll do that every once and again after pruning off old flowers.

    Hi, great video (and music) just wondering what season is best for root trimming citrus? Thanks!

    • @thepepperboi
      @thepepperboi 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      For my bonsai and potted citrus I usually root prune late winter/early spring. When spring hits and the tree start to explode with new growth it gives them ample time to reestablish before the summer heat. You can probably get away with a late fall root prune, but spring seems to be best. They bounce back nice and quick. Cheers

  • @persadsanjay

    How come you cut the roots?

    • @thepepperboi
      @thepepperboi 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I trim the roots to make sure it doesn’t get root bound. The roots can wrap around and end up eventually choking off nutrients. I’ve found if you trim the roots you can keep it in the same size pot for a long time. Similar to bonsai.

    Can you still have success if you cut off all the leaves? I cloned a chiltepin (wild pepper) yesterday, and cut off all the leaves. I used a rooting powder.

    • @thepepperboi
      @thepepperboi 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Usually leaving a few leaves helps with photosynthesis, but I’m sure if the conditions are right it could survive. May just lower your odds of a successful clone.
