    I'm thinking of taking up buhurt/hmb I already have a suit of armour i use for reenacting. Where do you need it to be the thickest? WHere do you take the worst hits?
    Also, do you prefer a small plate brig to a cuirass?

    • @GrantTheKnight
      @GrantTheKnight  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's gotta have specific thickness depending on the type of steel. Easiest explanation is to find the IMCF rules, but for an example, titanium needs to be 1.5mm on the spine in the ACW league.
      I'd say most painful is ribs and back, but gaps in shoulders and arms are more common.
      I prefer a small plate brig for mobility. I'm going to address a lot of this in upcoming videos too!

    how is armor assessed in terms of the time period they came from? is there an easier way to tell when you order them? I was trying to go for a kettle helm with a more italian style armor pieces for everything else, is there a specific century i should aim for? just so i know what to look for

    Hey I was wondering if you had an idea of how much for full kit weighs? Great video man thanks for postin.

    • @GrantTheKnight
      @GrantTheKnight  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s around $2,500. Give or take a couple hundred. That’s a very basic kit but it will get you started.

      Just to add, I’ll do a video on this and some places I go. I’m a bit hesitant to publicly share it because you should really find a team first.

    I am super curious about buhurt and in switzerland (hi from switzerland) its popular, i want to get into it, ive seen cold rolled 14ga-10ga steel armor from steelmastery that looks great and are affordable and am curious if that would be enough or if i should get it in hardened 12ga-14ga steel ? What would you recommend ? As for the chest im going with a titanium brigandine with linen instead of cotton/wool and for the limbs i havent started looking at the items, what are your general recommendations ?

    • @GrantTheKnight
      @GrantTheKnight  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't deal with gauge too much, but I think that would be ok overall until you get into tournaments. I could argue a minimum of 1mm hardened steel for limbs and brig can be 1mm anything but sound should be 1.2 to 1.5mm. Helmet at least 2.5mm hardened. 3mm is much more comfortable though 😁

    • @GrantTheKnight
      @GrantTheKnight  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also I don't think the American leagues have any teams in Switzerland, there are a few in England. But check out HMB (Historical Medieval Battle). I'd figured they're bound to have one. I'm getting back in the swing of things. Summer is time consuming for me, but I'll have a video up on some of this really soon too.

    • @tyrian666
      @tyrian666 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GrantTheKnight oh we have our own teams here in switzerland 😁 and thank you very much for all this help, the max ive seen for the armor on steel mastery is 2.5mm and the minimum is 1.0mm, i think they have only 2.0mm hardened steel though so im gonna go check

    • @GrantTheKnight
      @GrantTheKnight  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Check out Pavel, Aleksey Perebeynos, and Medieval Extreme too. They're good ones.

    Are you ever worried about hand injurys with that type of gauntlet?

    • @GrantTheKnight
      @GrantTheKnight  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've been ok, except when putting my hand out there to get hit. The injury I've had is on my palm, which is a technical mistake because I shouldn't be throwing my hand out. Other than that it's been fairly safe.

  • @ValoranVale
    @ValoranVale 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice.
    That helmet is a close helm by the way, not an armet. Armets open from the sides, whereas close helms open from the front, although you didn't seem to need to open it at all and just slid it straight on.
    I'm not very knowledgeable about modern tournaments and whatnot, but are there regulations regarding how much "extra" padding you need to be wearing underneath the metal?
    I ask because the suits I always see people wearing in these things are so much larger and bulkier than the real suits of armor were.

    • @GrantTheKnight
      @GrantTheKnight  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The last helm has clips on the side, they were already opened and if you watch my wife closes and clips the sides in, I should have explained that part while it was going on. I am still learning about some of these armor pieces though so 🤷
      On the modern rules I'm not 100% sure with HMB, but as far as I know there aren't rules on having too much. As long as it's completely concealed, you can have modern stuff underneath, and people definitely do; from motorcycle protective gear to QB shirts to hockey gear to knee braces and the like. I use a QB shirt because I've been gapped, but it's really tight fit. I've seen others use much more bulky things.

    Several things here.
    First Don't buy from Armstreet until they get their head out of their ass. They were under new management back in 21 and had a ton of issues with custom orders.
    Second Sabatons weren't really meant for fighting on foot. For safety yes wear them but English Knights who fought predominantly on foot did not.
    Third your gambeson is of very poor design. This is why your mobility is restricted. Most of the armor your wearing is mid to late 14th to early 15th century. I'd suggest you get a Charles de blois purpoint with tie downs.
    On your helmets armets are alot later in the 15th century. They typically weren't worn with brigantine which was being phased out. Further a French knight would be wearing a jupon over his chest armor.

    • @GrantTheKnight
      @GrantTheKnight  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just to comment on a couple things:
      Sabatons save my feet from the greaves, I prefer them. My gambeson is actually modified by me to give me more mobility, and I've changed my set up a bit more since then. I also wore the armet because I wanted to, and I still can't quite afford to get a full kit plus helmet when I already have a full kit and another helmet. Don't want to sell either as well.
