Sumit, The interview showcases your courage under great personal challenge, and the refreshing honesty with which you have talked about mental illness. Hope this encourages the community at large to look at those with mental illness with a more compassionate, open and supportive perspective.
What a great piece, Sumit! Glad it went into detail and covered a lot of ground. We've been in touch over the years but there's so much I learnt on this episode, nonetheless. Must talk more when we meet - I have so much to ask! - Sam
I have worked with Sumit. I was aware that he had a problem and he had taken treatment for depression and overcome it. During my work I found him highly intelligent , witty and ability to understand complex situations very quickly. I enjoyed working with him He himself brought up his mental health sometimes in a light hearted manner. However these were delicate issues and one never knew how to talk about them. I doubt I discussed this with him though. I think he has raised a number of issues which corporates could work on. I think people have lot to offer if some solutions can be found for such problems . One idea that came to me after seeing this video is that he is well suited to advise corporates on how to handle these issues. His experience in this area is unique and invaluable.
It's incredibly brave of you Sumit Guha to share your difficulties with mental illness. It's been a real eye opener. We worked together for a short period and in hindsight had I/we known, I feel we would have been been more supportive colleagues. Awareness of mental health if not illnesses is growing in the workplace but not enough. Future leaders must learn from this.
I think we should contribute in any way possible to destigmatise the illness. I'm not denying that most people think it's a sensitive issue, but the question is "Must it be?"
I think the employer should get in touch with psychiatric suppot system and family to make and creat ecosystem for pmi a reasonable help to improve at a reasonable level.
It maybe a bit too much to expect the employer to get in touch with the psychiatric support system. If they make the workplace more conducive to better mental health, that would be considerable progress.

Hi Phiroz - good to hear from you, after several years
@@SumitGuha-s5b Yes Sumit it's been a very long time. I've just messaged you on LinkedIn.
Must appreciate your courage about opening up on such a sensitive topic.
Why does it have to be sensitive?
@@SumitGuha-s5b most people feel so, I say this with experience of 6 yrs plus experience of counselling people
