Ive watched a few videos on replacing this alternator...yours was very descriptive and too the point. I was able to use a 1/2 drive with 15mm socket to break the 3 bolts loose, and a 3/8 drive with 15mm to turn them out. 3/8 drive with 13mm for power line and hand removed electrical plug. Did everything from the top both removing and installing. Avoided removing bottom plate this way or any other components. Disconnected upper radiator hose from radiator end and only took serpantine belt off alternator while leaving it on all other pulleys but bungie corded out of the way. Great video.

@@Orichalun If all goes well it should only take 30 minutes to an hour. The hardest parts were getting the bolts out and lining them up to put the alternator back in. As long as you can get the bolts free and out it really isn't that hard.

I'm going to tell you how I removed my alternator's top bolt on my '06 3.5L v6 that was not going to crack loose despite all the Charger alternator swapout vids available on YT describing the alternator top bolt removal. My approach to this was day 1, crack all the bolts to the alternator, then re-tighten because cracking the bolts is a project in itself, Day 2, swap out the alternator. The top bolt sits at an angle in a very difficult/tight space and the support bracket leaves little choice to set any type of wrench to it. I tried every type of 15mm socket setup, 1/2", 3/8" flex head ratchets breaker bar but the angle of the bold was too difficult to get a good torqued grab. My solution: TOOLS REQUIRED: 1/2" breaker Bar, 15mm 12 point S-Type Wrench, 14 mm 1/2" Drive Hex socket. 1) Spray all three bolts with PB Blaster penetrant (Walmart $5.00/can) 2) Acquire an S-Type 15mm 12 point wrench (Amazon < $10.00) AT LEAST 7" in total length. Longer, say 9 inches, would be better. (an S-type wrench with 12 point 15mm on both ends would be ideal, mine was 14mm on one end, 15 mm on the other end) 3) IF you buy an s-type wrench with 14mm and 15mm on the other end you will ALSO need to buy a 14mm 1/2" Drive hex socket ($5.00 at Lowes, et al) 4) The s-type wrench fits perfectly on the angled top bolt and sits up, slightly above the radiator hose and gives enough room to clear the ABS brake pump/controller. 5) Take the 15mm S-Type wrench and fit over top alternator bolt head. IF YOUR 15mm S-Type wrench has another 15mm 12 point on the other end, simply put your 1/2" breaker bar into the that end and use that for the torque you need to crack the bolt open. If your 15mm S-Type 12 point wrench has a 14mm setup on the other end put a 14 mm 1/2" Drive Hex socket into that end and attach the 1/2" breaker bar into the hex socket. (you will have to pinch the radiator hose a little but it will work. 6) I used my right hand to keep the wranch on the bolt head and my left hand to push the breaker bar towards the rear of the car and it cracked loose on the first try. GOOD Luck

I am not a mechanic I just do a bunch of research and watch a lot of videos before I do anything. A good rule when doing any work on anything make sure to take lots of pictures that way when it comes time to put it back together you know where everything goes.
You made it look simple...which it was to remove. Installing the new one was a bitch! Trying to hold up the alternator and lining up the the 2 bolts from underneath took over an hour!

great video! my charger is making exact noise but volt meter says alternator is still working correctly. just curious if you changed alternator out just from noise it was making? also my battery completely died 2 days after it started making noise- it wouldn't take a charge
Yes I changed the alternator out just because of the noise and I wasn't having any other issues. I drove around with the noise for a few weeks before changing the alternator and it didn't kill the battery. If your volt meter says your alternator is working properly, but your batter still died you could have a loose wire.
Removing the radiator hose does give you more room to work. You can start installing it from the top or bottom which ever way works best for you. I did it the same way using the top bolt to hold it in place then installed the bottom bolts, but it was a pain holding it up and getting that long bolt lined up. You can use a second jack if you have one and put a block on it to help hold up the alternator. Doing stuff by yourself you are always look for tricks to make things easier.
What are you supposed to do if you can get the first bracket bolt loosened. You can’t fit a can of wd40 in there and my hands are tore up from trying to loosen it.
The block bracket bolt or the alt bracket bolt. If you can't get the block bracket bolt out it will be a tight squeeze getting the alt out and back in. If it is the alt bracket bolt just take the block bolt out and remove the alt with the bracket attached.
Changed the alternator and battery its still dieing found out the alternator is not charging the battery can't find any cut/broken , corroded wires. 09 3.5 ex police cruiser.
First you can check the belt and make sure it is tight because if it is loose it will not spin the alternator enough to charge the battery. Second make sure the battery terminals are clean and on tight. Third if the new alternator is still not charging the battery take it back to where you got it from and have them test it to make sure it is not bad. It is very possible that you got a bad replacement alternator or the voltage regulator in the alternator is bad. Also how old is the battery? It could also be possible that the battery has a bad cell and won't hold a charge.
So my buddy came over with his 15mm gear wrench Ratchet wrench he jerked it like a impact and it broke it free. Just pulling and pulling will not do it. Just make sure the wrench is on there good and just snap it

I'm going to tell you how I removed my alternator's top bolt on my '06 3.5L v6
that was not going to crack loose despite all the Charger alternator swapout vids

MD Muscle it took about 30 minutes total. What did take long was draining the fluid pan .

Changed mine in July 2019. Took 6 hours because all 3 bolts were WAY OVER TIGHT!!! I have to do it again. Should be easier this time.

You can get the alt from almost any auto store. I got mine from Advanced, but you can get them from Pepboy's and Rock Auto as well.
my challenger's alternator just went out and Dodge was trying to charge me 1400$ for it to be replaced
If you can do it yourself it is always cheaper.
They told me 1100, so l ended up installing it myself, way cheaper.
