@@hyr0llr Hey, when you were connecting the cable to the B+ terminal of the alternator, did you leave the black plastic on? Because it looks like you took it off to have direct metal to metal contact. I left mine on, and it sort of melted it? It's fine now, I was able to remove it from the wire, but I was wondering if it needs to have direct contact to the metal like how it seems in the video. Sorry for rambling, I'd be happy to reiterate myself if needed.
@@MOB-fz5vf That's actually a good question. I didn't even notice it was not on during the install. it looks to be a protector for the + positive wire post. im wondering how yours ended up melting. but if possible id leave it on to protect it from shorting out. im not sure how mine ended up coming off.
@@hyr0llr Ah. But have you had problems with the repair after? Because I kept having the battery light coming on and off occasionally, and the Voltage was reading lower than it should. And I'm somewhat confident it was tightened down enough, so I was wondering if it's maybe because of the plastic? If you haven't had problems with it, maybe I should just install it like you did?
Great video! What was the symptoms? Was it due to it not wanting to turn over, trying to start but won't? Is the starter a common problem for the Dodge Charger?
If the alternator is not charging the car is running off your battery, so essentially your battery is slowly dying. So when you turn it off and go to start it again, you wont have enough juice to start, which would seem like a start problem. To figure out if its the starter or alternator, try jump starting the car. If it starts and runs, test the output like the start of this video, if your getting. 13.5 or higher , it is charging and the alternator is good.
Awesome video! First time really messing wth the engine, as I usually can only do oil changes and whatnot. The video was good quality, concise, and definitely earned a sub for this. So, my fault here but may serve other beginners, don't do the bittom bolt last. Don't. Do it first because then the top two are still as easy if you had done them first while the bottom one becomes stupidly hard.
@@hyr0llr thanks man! Just got my baby off the side of the road. It’s 11pm here haha. But, thanks for helping get my baby home (the one in my profile pic)

@@Monica-c1f best bet if you have a local mechanic they possibly have the gauges to check and would probably be cheaper than a shop and for sure cheaper than a dealer. At least to point you in the right direction.

Now I feel like a dumbass. I wasn't trying to catch you I got a brand new alternator that I need to put in mine
By chance do you remember where you purchased the same alternator?.
And also how many Amps?
if I had to guess, rockauto most of the time if they have the luxury of waiting. yu save alot of mone.
@@hyr0llr thank you and also how many amps?
@@ernestofavela4148 that i don't remember sorry, should be able to get the biggest one yu can afford. but looks like the 180 is the most common
180 amps minimum
Do any of the mounting bolts have nuts on the back side or do they thread into the block/bracket?
They do not have nuts, no. They bolt to the engine.
2011 charger goes into battery save mode should i replace battery or alternator?
@@breadbread8015 whats voltage with car running?
Maaaan I just went out and bought a floor jack. Thought I was gonna have to really get under there
It's a good investment, I promise. For oil changes brakes or anything really. I wouldn't return if you can afford to keep it.
When I removed the bolts my alternator is still stuck & won’t drop out 😑
At 3:18 you can see a dowel on the alternator, its probably getting held on by that'.
it ended up being the stupid bolt on the bottom, & I couldn't get that same bolt back through when I mounted the new one on either @@hyr0llr
Thanks man👊🏽
No problem. Hope the repair goes smooth
I got my battery tested and it’s bad could the battery and alternator be bad? Or should I just replace the the battery
If yu can start the car test to see if the alternator ia charging with a multimeter. If it is charging, ghen yeah the battery is shot
What’s the solid. Battery symbol mean
Alternator possibly not charging
How do I loosen the tension for the belt
