Ugh yea the trick is to understand it isn't your problem and that you're getting paid either way. It's hard tho, I had a guy insisting that I count 30ish dollars worth of change for him so that HE knows I'm doing a good job. I could have just told him off and gotten angry, but tbh the fact that he did that at all makes him look like the inherent jerk. I apologized to the woman behind him for taking so long and she said "y'know, you would have been able to do your job properly if he wasn't such a jerk" and I was like YOOOO LETS GOOOO. So it all pays off in the end.

But for the people with social anxiety just go for it!! This job helped me so much with learning how to talk to people and get over my fear. You are so sweet! You did really good too. I just started cashiering and slowly getting it. I have major social anxiety, but I try to be really nice to everyone.
dont be worried it tells u how much change to give back and if u screw up by putting in the wrong amount thats ok its better to be slow than to give someone the wrong change and be short on ur drawer
@madyson Leah Hii how did the job go? I'm looking for a job to get some pocket money but I'm not that good at math either...knowing how it went for you might help 😅
I'm on my 4th month of cashiering and it's typically easy now . I'm not nervous for it or anything. I learned to not let the customers ruin my day cuz everyone makes mistakes. But it's definently better when it's not busy!
This was probably so long ago but, Omg girl yessss!!! I’m so glad you working with amazing service!!! I miss them cashier days (now I’m a server) but I just love when a cashier is nice and smiles and doesn’t look like they hate their life working there! You smiled and laughed and listened to customers to what they needed! Honestly feel like service like that needs to be acknowledged bc so many young people like us just start changing attitudes but that’s what makes or breaks our jobs in the future! Keep it up girl, didn’t mean to ramble but I stumbled upon your video and it reminded me of my first job! 💙 nothing but support here girl!✨

For those who aren't confident in counting back change here is a tip that is helping me. Take the total and count up to the amount that the customer gave you. This will insure you're giving the right change back. Say the total was 14.89 and the customer gave a 20. Starting from the pennies you would count up. So 1 penny makes it 14.90+ .10 would make it 15 now 15 + 5 =20. So you would give back 5 dollars and .11 your not really doing any subtraction just addition. They also have games online to practice to make it easier.
Your very good at what you do and your customer service etiquette is on point! What I hate is the amount of people who don’t have reusable bags 🥺 plastic... plastic everywhere
I know I’m a year late but i love her energy even though she said in the beginning she wasn’t in a good mood she still had a smile on her face and had good energy towards the customers !!! This is how you suppose to work !
I love this! Just started a new job in the checkout section (not in a grocery store but same thing) and remembering all the different buttons and tricks is so difficult. Watching this reminds me that I'll get it eventually, like I have with my other jobs in the past
hey everyone, my names Meghan and I recently started a new checkout job in the uk in a supermarket called tescos. They didn’t tell me what my position was until I turned up, but my biggest fear was the checkouts. I had just about overcome my battle with extreme anxiety and it was like my worst nightmare. When they told me I was being trained I was terrified. Honestly though, it’s genuinely a lot more relaxed and less pressurising than made out. It’s boosted my social skills and confidence so much more. So to anyone who’s worried, dOnT be! Smile, relax and just take your time...
Meghan Leihann that was an amazing message Meghan!! I’m so happy you had a positive experience!! It really becomes easy once you get the hang of it!! Thank you for that comment!!
I just had my first training yesterday and I basically learned a little bit on how to work the register and cashing out simple items my second training was today. When I arrived i got thrown in live with an assistant who was watching over my shoulder. I was so nervous. Keep in mind I only had 2 plu remembered and when I got a produce items such as greens I didnt know the plu for it or the name of the item so I asked my assistant what was the code and she told me to look it up on the sheet and I was struggling becuz it's a lengthy sheet and I could tell the customer was getting impatient. My assistant had an attitude the entire time and made learning a stressful experience. I only cashed out customers for like 45 minutes but then finally a new trainer continued my training for the day so I got to learn about coupons, payment methods, etc. I just cant believe that I get 2 training sessions which are 4 hours each and then they have us go live for a shift on our 3rd day. I'm really nervous for my 3rd day.
I have social anxiety and my first job I’ve ever worked was at HersheyPark as a cater at age 14. I was nervous but it honestly wasn’t that bad. I washed dishes, swept and gave people drinks and food. Until 2 weeks later I was fired due to attendance. 4 years later, I feel so worthless because I feel like I’m never going to normal like other people and always compare myself to my friends life, today I’m going to apply to pet smart and work as a cashier, I’ve never worked the cash register before and am terrified but I know I have to move on.
I'm 25 and I am happy to see another of people who are hardworking, kind of nervous like I am with other adults. Cause we know how customers are and the stuff we think about should all just be a nightmare. But I work at a daycare and interacting with parents is enough for me.
Was a minor and worked as a cashier for Walgreens and stocked years ago. I did more than just stand there as people think we do. Cashiers at Walgreens helped stock stuff up front too and cleaned the front area and faced it. Honestly for any teens seeking a job I'd suggest cashiering if you're good at math(it tells you how much to give back!), good with people, and are a problem solver. Walgreens IMO was a good first job. I'd suggest Kroger, Schnucks, and other big box retailers too.
Omg. I know which one yuh went too. Hope I see you one day. Your getting so big and beautiful I remember the first day I met you from camp. Btw it’s gabby. Miss you,Sadia and Cece so much. Keep up the good work
I’ve been working in a grocery store chain since July last year and have been a bagger at the front end and and now im training soon to be a cashier.. At my work we have the normal big lanes but have baggers to bag stuff and then we have registers 1-4 as Express so 1 and 2 and 3 are 12 items or less lane and 4 is 20 items or less lane
Cam Howe oh wow that sounds very interesting! I love that your store actually has baggers! At my store 1-9 are 15 items or less (cashiers bag), 10-15 are self bag (customers bag), and 16-30 are regular (cashiers bag)
Makaila Forever Ahh yeah!! Nice!! Where is Shop Rite based if you don’t mind me asking? Sorry for making a long comment just wanted to explain the one grocery store i work at compared to yourselves
Cam Howe oh it’s no problem at all!! I always appreciate insight on other cashier’s lives! Shoprite is actually based in New Jersey but the one I work at is in New York!
Im 14 and I was able to get myself a job as a cashier & I wouldn’t say it’s hard to really be one. It’s just Some customers are rude & other are very sweet !! If u wanna get a job as a cashier go for it , I think it’s good to interact with other people :)
I work at shoprite as a cashier too you're the first shoprite employee I've seen on TH-cam so thanks for doing this video. I hate dealing with customers complain but at least there was none of those in this video lol! So yes I do understand what you have to deal with. I subscribed to your channel just cuz you work at shoprite lol! I wish u luck!
Dont worry. I've been working as a cashier since October of last year. My advice is to you is you are going to get a lot of different types of customers. In other words, basically how they are many different types of people in the world in general. The best thing is that you gotta have experience, which is something that I've learned. With a little patience (some people will test your patience some way or another), and a little bit of experience, it can really go a long way. Been working for.... about 7 months now and it has really paid off! Typically after a month or so you start to get the hang of most of the basics.
this girls reply game is amazing. im in the uk i wanna get a job for extra cash aswell but as you know i cant have one yet im not old enough but soon i will and i will know to stay confident and smile always after watching u
I used to work at a grocery store where I grew up & worked through out my city. So I was very well known. To make a long story short. It's really important when you begin work to put on the "happy" face whether you feel it or not. And greet everyone by name as you walk in. Eventually you'll feel that "happy" face & try to make a difference for all. I had customers walking in asking for a hug or a good word. If you're working for a fair & equal employer none of your supervisors should feel threatened by your great customer service skills. I miss my customer. I retired due to COVID.
omg it’s so weird to see you just double bag things 😭 idk where you’re at but in california you pay for your bags lol. have to ask “do you want a bag with that?”
Viviana Flores lol is it? I’m from New York where bags are free. People just be snatching them off the racks and taking them with them lol!! We should charge for bags here cause they just end up all over the place
Omg you're so young but you make it seem so easy. I'm older and I just started my training at a grocery store and I feel dumb as rocks lol. The WIC and EBT stuff is so confusing but you give me hope that maybe I can get through it.
AxV lol!!! Trust me when I first started I thought I would never get it!! You learn as you go definitely! In my store they don’t let us do WIC check transactions, the front end managers do those. The cashiers only do WIC card and EBT transactions. But they’re exactly like credit cards so it shouldn’t be too hard!! Don’t be discouraged! You’ll be a pro in no time!!
today is my first official day and I am already over it lol. They didn't even train me well. Customers are coming in and I don't know how to do anything. One lady told me how to do wic wrong, they didn't show me how to do deliveries, and the way they cataorgrize the groceries is all off and I didn't even know :/
Makaila Forever Honestly if you do this on the daily you must be hella smart because being a cashier is a whole mess. But I'm still going to keep trying until they fire me. Worst comes to worse I'll apply to chipotle and least then they give free food LOL
CECE honestly speaking I would’ve probably gotten in trouble if they knew I was recording but I hid it well. I put my phone between the coupon machine and the receipt machine and turned the brightness all the way down so if you did see it looked like my phone was just chilling lol!
I work as cashier and this store. They keep track on how much cash you make. And at end of your shift they have a piece of paper. They think I’m stealing and it’s stressful and gets awkward when they say I’m missing cash. I don’t want them to think I’m thief
You had training? I had my first proper shift today and got told how to use the register for a few minutes then I was straight to the customers, the most anxiety I've felt in an hour, dealt with some grumpy and some nice customers. Once I got into the swing of things it felt a lot better bit very tiring.
i’ve been working as a fast food cashier for 4 months now & im a team leader training for manager now. i always lowkey wanted to be a cashier as a little kid and idk it just makes me so happy to make people’s day even for just a sec (:
You’re so polite and quick! I love cashiers who can bag my stuff fast and put the right things together. One time, the cashier put my strawberries with hairspray, gel and dish soap 🤦🏻♀️

I would feel so pressured to bag everything fast.
Yes Yas yesss it’s a struggle
I work as a grocery store cashier and I cant wait to leave!! My feet always hurt cause I have flat feet. Also, I hate when people put the money on the register and not in my hand, its basic manners..
But for the people with social anxiety just go for it!! This job helped me so much with learning how to talk to people and get over my fear. Not everyone is mean, and just ignore the rude ones
Oh, and you can make new friends there too, cashiers usually always become friends
Jasmine Sali awww I love this comment!! Thank you for shedding a positive light on the job! And I do not blame you! This job definitely takes a toll on you!!
i also have been training to be a shoprite cashier for the past few days so these videos are extremely relatable and enjoyable to watch and i'm glad you feel comfortable enough to film these in a new environment. i feel like my main problem has just been trying to figure out where the barcode is fast enough but i think overtime i've been getting the hang of it, and my back hurting after a while but that's a given. please keep these videos coming, you're doing an amazing job!
t. Awww congratulations!! And yess I appreciate that so much!! I’m glad that someone is actually finding my videos entertaining! I struggle sometimes with the barcodes as well I think it helps if I try to spot it while it’s on the belt so I can maneuver it while I scan it. And omg!! The back foot and ankle pain is real!! I will definitely keep the videos coming!! Thank you so much for this awesome comment ❤️

I just started as a bagger and am so nervous for when I become a cashier like What if I mess up the simplest of things? It would be so embarrassing
Hell. I am even nervous being a bagger. I can'ttt

I used to work at a grocery store where I grew up & worked through out my city. So I was very well known. To make a long story short. It's really important when you begin work to put on the "happy" face whether you feel it or not. And greet everyone by name as you walk in. Eventually you'll feel that
"happy" face & try to make a difference for all. I had customers walking in asking for a hug or a good word. If you're working for a fair & equal employer none of your supervisors should feel threatened by your great customer service skills. I miss my customer. I retired due to COVID.

The cashiers only do WIC card and EBT transactions. But they’re exactly like credit cards so it shouldn’t be too hard!! Don’t be discouraged! You’ll be a pro in no time!!
