Even thou Mr. Rogers really paints a compelling story everytime and he really creates an atmosphere, even for 6 year old spanish speaking boys and their moms! RIP Kenny Rogers, a true legend.

My parents took me to about every country concert they went to in the 60’s and early 70’s. We went to a Kenny Rodgers concert with my aunt and uncle. My mama and aunt went down to the stage after the concert ( most country artists would come back to talk to their fans) and he told them in no uncertain terms that he never came back and they were wasting their and his time. Nice on stage , not so much in person. I can say this because I saw it myself. They still loved his music but always remembered how he treated his fans.

Bobby Bare released it 1st. Don Schlitz (the writer) also did a version before Kenny, but Kenny's is the one that made it a success.
Johnny Cash also did it. Recorded before Kenny's but released after.
