It is impossible to understate how big a hit this song was. Kenny was not the first artist to record the song but he made it HUGE, in a lot of ways it was his signature song. The songs popularity (and Kenny's) was so big that CBS made five (5) TV movies between 1980 to 1994.

I kinda disagree, I think his greatest hit was either "lady" or "buy me a rose" but I do agree this is amoung his greatest and the one he is most known for.

I'm not quite sure our guy caught that the old guy was the one who died in his sleep, while the story-teller learned the lesson taught. I've noticed that just hearing a song for the first time often fails to pass all the info to a reactor.

Kenny Roger’s recording of The Gambler is a national treasure. Literally. In 2018, it was chosen for preservation in The National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress, as. ‘’ culturally, historically, or artistically’’. significant.
Kenny was not the first to record the song. It was recorded by several other artists, including Bobby Bare, Johnny Cash, and Don Schultz who wrote the song when he was only 23. But none of those recordings caught on.
Rogers’ recording won him the best male country performance in 1980. It became his signature song and was one of five consecutive songs by Rogers to hit #1 on the country charts. It also inspired a series of 6 TV movies starring Rogers as the gambler. Rogers turned out to be a pretty good actor as well as an accomplished singer.
After Rogers death in 2020, The Gambler soared to #1 on Billboard’s Digital Song list.

This was much more than a card game. The advice was about life. You can have a winning hand or a losing hand, but you're the one holding the cards and it's your decisions in life that will move you forward or backwards. Awesome song. RIP Dear Kenny

The song is a life lesson that has a gambling metaphor wrapped around it. What it means is you got to know when to hold on to people you got to know when to let go of people in your life that are toxic and you got to know when to run away. It's a tough thing to know how to do it's hard to do sometimes but most of all it's not something you're going to read right all the time and once in a while you're going to lose a hand or two. But don't worry you'll get another hand keep going you got this

His 'Love Will Turn You Around', which was in his movie he starred in, called 'Six Pack', is about a washed up NASCAR driver, who cleans up his act and winds up winning a big race and gets married by the end of the movie.

My parents took me to about every country concert they went to in the 60’s and early 70’s. We went to a Kenny Rodgers concert with my aunt and uncle. My mama and aunt went down to the stage after the concert ( most country artists would come back to talk to their fans) and he told them in no uncertain terms that he never came back and they were wasting their and his time. Nice on stage , not so much in person. I can say this because I saw it myself. They still loved his music but always remembered how he treated his fans.
