I custom ordered a 2017 Giulia Quad after the Super Bowl commercial FCA ran to introduce the car. Carbon ceramic brakes and every option except the Sparcos because in Long Island NY I wanted the heated seats and the heated steering wheel. My name is on the window sticker (Super Cool)...I've owned many Alfas but my Quad was the first one I ordered NEW. I'll never sell it !!
I am a proud owner of the Giulia QV, MY 2022, Verde Montreal. Almost the same car, except the bucket seats and carbon fibre roof, mine are standard. What a car! I only have it for a week, but don’t want get out of it! Thank you, I’ve been following you for a while and your videos have been one of the deciding factors to go for the car!
Hi Ed, pleased to say that I am the proud new owner of your 2017 giulia. Unfortunately, I haven't been doing much driving of it since buying it, broke down twice whilst on the way home, both times exiting a roundabout, low fuel pressure was the diagnosis. I was aware of your other videos about not letting fuel level getting too low, but it had half a tank. Still, no regrets, in the hundred miles or so of driving it, it's superb. Anyway, enjoy your new one.
Wow. That’s great to know. It’s a really nice car and I’m glad it’s gone to someone who knows the history. I never was able to tell if the pump had been done or not but never ran it close to empty or had a chance for any longer journeys. I never saw any low pressure during my ownership. How’s that for timing. I did have a warranty anyway though. Good that it’s being done now for you. Enjoy it. It’s a little beast. Can you PM me on social so we can stay in touch.
Hey Ed, great to see you back in an Alfa, was sad when you sold your previous model as you give real life ownership reviews. I’m going to start saving for when you sell this one, it’s stunning. ❤
Thank you for your kind words. I couldn’t resist. It’s certainly not twice the car for twice the money, but you only live once! Right? I’ve not been that busy making videos lately due mostly to work commitments and lack of daylight but I’ve a few ideas starting to form. Hopefully you’ll enjoy them as well? Cheers. E Ps I used to race 100 Nationals in the late 80s! 😉
I love your passion. I have a 2017 in black which now has 165000 km on the clock. You’re so right about EVs. I bought a Tesla Model 3 performance to do my commute to reduce the mileage on the Alfa. It only makes me want to drive the Alfa more!! It’s such a treat. Thanks for your content.
The e-tron GT is supposed to be one of the better performance EVs out there but I just didn’t gel with it. My wife seems to like it though. I think it’s the shock factor as most done expect a petite blonde to be driving something like that. The only other car this happened in was her Audi S2 Quattro! 😂😂
It’s a great video as you are giving an in depth appreciation for this car which nobody else has done on the internet to date, as yours is based on experience not a 20 minute review. ❤
Great review, I had a 19 plate & was lucky enough to get a green 100th anniversary model, the Akrapovic fitted with my exhaust valve switch open which I transfer ed from my first one still doesn't quite have the visceral noise but it's close. Keep doing the videos, green is the colour to have.
Another wonderful video. What a remarkable car. Well, I have began the search. That usually means the purchase is just weeks away. I sincerely appreciate all your words and experience. I just thought you might be interested. My first car was a 1973 1/2 Triumph GT6 Mark III that I bought for $ 1500 in 1979.
For me to carbon seats are must. I had to get mine with them after driving both options. These cars going to be something people realized the missed out on
Always a good watch, i have a 2020 Guilia veloce in visconti verde with a tan interior, not had it long but your videos helped me decide so thanks. i absolutely love my car, my boss has a verde montreal QV, they look great in the car park!
About a month ago I drove a brand new MY23 Giulia Veloce in Vesuvio Grey with red brake calipers and a sunroof off the showroom floor. An upgrade for me from my MY14 Guilietta 2L Turbo Diesel which was also originally new. I loved owning my Guilietta, she gave me a love for driving and for Alfa Romeo! I am totally in love with my Guilia Veloce now and hope that one day in the future I can get my hands on a MY23 Guilia QV. Living in Australia we have a hefty luxury car tax (30% over $80K for European cars up to 2 years old) so the MY23 Quad isn’t an option until it’s at least two years old! My 16 year old daughter is learning to drive and has been passed my beloved Guilietta…
Although I don't anticipate getting rid of my MY21 QV anytime soon it may eventually get turned over😎 In the meantime I'm sure you will still enjoy the Veloce however😀
Thanks again Ed for all your effort & time in producing these real world videos. I have recently joined you on this journey with a used MY21 coincidentally in Verde Montreal (& as I've said previously its your fault 🤪) I've also just taken delivery of Squadra dongle+SGW from local distributor in Adelaide (Doppietta) who were extremely helpfull to deal with. Have only managed to get out of town once for a trip up Macquarie Pass to blow the cobwebs out, but even just driving to the local shops now takes on a completely new perspective. As you say looking to make some more fantastic memories😎
I’d love to take it there as I said. I’m not sure I’d feel confident taking the Maserati into town let alone Italy. I know it was a dream to do it but it will probably just remain that, a dream. 🙏
@@Back_Road_Hero beautiful as they are I think you are correct, trying a trip like that in a near 25 year old Maserati would be extremely optimistic. The Giulia QV to Northern Ireland though would be a fabulous, I believe there’s an Irish version of Scotland’s NC500?
I think as a daily driver the new cars are definitely better. If you only it for nice road trips and a occasionally drive i think the early cars are the better option. Use to drive mine daily but the past 5 years only use it for these road trips and occasional weekend car. It suits my car better to be honest.
Nice video as always. I spec'ed ADAS on my QF but then took it off again due to my experience with other brands where it just adds to the list of things you have to turn off (while you can!) every single time you start the car. I was also worried that it might dilute the steering feel. Traffic sign recognition is downright dangerous, frequently suddenly slowing a car down to 50 on the motorway after misreading a sign (no choice to ignore with the Germans). Actually, with Alfa, all the useful stuff is included as standard, blind-spot monitoring, cross-path alerts, radar cruise etc., all standard without ADAS. Even if EVs were not being forced upon us I don't think I'll be being a new car again due to all the bonging and beeping, often for no obvious reason and the excessive safetyism that has further separated a driver from the driving experience. Thank goodness there is large parc of used cars out there to see me through. The only thing I'm a little disappointed with on my MY23 car is the lack of dramatic noise compared to a 2018 car I drove which was like a firework display even in "Natural" mode. Other owners have said the noise does improve with a few thousand miles on the clock so I am hoping that will be the case for my car.
The ADAS is probably at the ‘sweet spot’ on my car. Nothing to switch off every time and it totally ignores any speed signs until you want it to. Not sure if the 2023 models were different. I empathise with you over the engine note but leaving the central section down and fitting an exhaust controller has improved things greatly.
I’ve had a 2017 and 2023 and the later car just wasn’t a patch on the first one for driving enjoyment and precision. The 23 car felt more like a German car and less like a 4 door Ferrari.
I see your point exactly. This is my daily driver for now so I’m actually glad that it has lost some of the roughness. They’re not hugely far apart in my opinion but not really pushed the 2022 yet. BTW what have you got now? Ed
The difference between the 2023+ and 2017 is overly exaggerated. Dynamically the cars are the same, if not now further improved with the mechanical LSD and revised suspension (hardware and software). What some of you get confused with @angi733 is that the latter ones are simply more refined and the steering wheel is thicker to implement ADAS. Ironically, the new steering setup is what was adopted on the best Giulia Type 952 of all: the GTA models (further dismissing your view).
I’ve been in love with this car since it released. However, I was scared of the horror stories. You changed my mind. I have an s2000 at home, but with 2 kids, and a 3rd on the way, it’s impossible to enjoy it anymore. I was going to get an e90 m3, but now I think I’ll get my Alfa.
Very informative, thank you! Beautiful spec, timeless! I think the only thing that could put it over the top would be if you got those calipers painted yellow. Enjoy the drive!
the corsa have their place, dry summer weather the car keeps the lovely steering feel and outright grip when they are warm far exceeds the Michelin, however anything else, Michelin or continental are better
Afternoon Ed Just wondered when you might make an update video of your fleet of cars. Absolutely adore the alfa colourway absolute class well done my friend!!!!
Yes always fun waiting for parts. Lord knows why they don’t keep hundreds in stock! Get an extra relay for the glove box as you’ll be needing it anyway. 😂👍🍀💚
A great, and very informative, video as always Ed. I feel very privileged to own a Quad. Mine is a model year 2022. I hope your flight to Toronto went well.
I love my Quad too. I think it's an amazing all-rounder which is easy to and comfortable to drive sedately, and has as much power as anyone could possibly want. I'm pleased to hear that you got to your favourite restaurant in time. 🙂
Great review, good to hear about the real world features. Just bought a new Mini Countryman, it’s the JCW model, it has similar features that’s useful for the drive home following the long haul flights, life savers, thing is we get used to them and can rely on them.. anyhoo, great vid and info. Looking 4ward to the adventures to come 👍
Hi Brian. Hope you’re well? It’s just the little things that keep us safe. Others scoff at driver aids in a performance car but they have no idea what it’s like. 👍 Are you enjoying the JCW?
@@Back_Road_Hero Hi Ed from Nagoya, yes the JCW is a lovely thing, had the previous Clubman version, that was smaller, seemingly quicker and smoother. This Countryman is much bigger, has room for the grandkids and dogs, can even tow a horse box ha. It’s a very pretty car for all the family rather than just for me, not as smooth due to the bigger wheels. Anyhoo, loving your new Quad, thanks for the real world commentary on it 👍.
Great update as ever, I think the seats and colour have just about trumped the older cars overall 'better' or more 'raw' feel and engagement for you....... I think you should have spent the 30k difference though painting the 2017 and installing carbon buckets ;-)
Yes perhaps the most economical route but I honestly just fancied a change. Sorry for not going with your controller but I had a valve only one in my last car and just wanted the facility to lower the splitter as well.
@@Back_Road_Hero wasn't mine chap, it's Dan Eastwood who also used to have a Montreal (he's gone back to Porsche again now, Cayman GT4) so no mither either way for me! And yeah the Squadra despite their reluctance to buy into the collab with you is a great bit of kit by all accounts. I have MES to lower my splitter but won't lie it's a bit of a faff
I absolutely hate touch screens in cars so mine is perfect - not quite as raw as the early ones but has the folding rear seats. I don't have electric seats which is also a bonus as I'm the only driver. I also have black calipers which I like and note your Montreal Green shares. 🍀💯🇮🇹🏁😊
Bought my 21 MY Montecarlo QV with just 7 miles on the clock as the second owner and honestly cannot think of a replacement after 3 years of ownership. Maybe a Stelvio if pushed as it’s my daily driver and all year round solution.
I've seriously looked around (no videos though) and couldn't come up with any other viable option. It just ticks so many boxes. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Ed
@@Back_Road_Hero my shortlist was / is Stelvio QV, M5, Rs4 but cannot motivate myself to make the change. Maybe I’ll follow your lead and get a fresher Giulia QV.
Stelvio lacks the sharpness of the Giulia. The M5 is way too expensive and the RS drinks way too much! The only thing that came close for me was the A110 but it lacked practicality and the drama (noise). I thought of the F-Type R, Lexus LC500 and C63 but nothing really got under my skin the way the Alfa did. It’s a passion thing really for me, I have to gel with the car.
Hi Ed! Firstly; I think you and the new Q diserves each other - looks like a perfect match. I must say I enjoy these videos and are looking forward to the next about installing the carplay right from the '17 models. Regards from Noreay, Jon 😀
I should have done a video on this a long time ago but didn’t get around to it. Hopefully soon. I’ve at least 4 others in edit at the moment. It’s just finding the time is an issue.
I just had a software update which now means wireless CarPlay. Whilst phone call reception is definitely improved, I miss the added functionality that my CarlinKit AI BOX gave me which turned the infotainment screen into a tablet with TH-cam Netflix etc etc. Of course not to be used when driving! As I've said before its great to see your passion for the car, and how you don't fear driving it for fear of picking up a dreaded stone chip! Unfortunately the OCD in me plays on mind - what if etc etc, and that's still the case even though I had my car fully PPFd. Now I worry about chips in the PPF😮. So seeing someone really enjoying their car is great!
All those little imperfections tell a story and you smile when you recall them. Just go out and enjoy it. Nobody will notice the odd mark. Yes the dongle has some advantages. I listen to podcasts through TH-cam which won’t play whilst plugged into the wired CarPlay port. It’s a better setup for sure. Ed
Talking of the optional adas settings. That’s another reason on top of many others that I’ll probably keep this car forever. Cars are going to get seriously annoying in the next few years.
Thanks as always Ed, always find your videos useful - I have the Android Auto dongle in my late 18 QV and it plugs into the USB under the armrest. Works perfectly 😊 Sounds as though I need a squadra thingy though🍀💯🇮🇹🏁
Thanks for that. Good to know that the 2018 has a usb in the armrest. Just no touchscreen until the interior update. The Squadra is much more than an exhaust controller which is basically what I really only needed. You’ll also need a security gateway bypass on cars after about Feb 2018 to make it work. You’ll find that and the dongle used on the forums as they’re easily removed before any sale. 👍😁
Never put anything other than the highest octane fuel on any turbocharged engine. It actually makes them more fuel efficient but most importantly, reduces the possibility of engine knock
Hi Ed lovely car I’ve been in touch with you before as I had problems starting mine mentioned about the relays which I changed (and cut chunks out of the fuse box trying to exit the fuse ) well guess what ….it was my ghost alarm all along lol ,I didn’t give it enough time to reset after it wouldn’t start so prob thought I was stealing it ,at least I know it works ha ha ,btw my 2017 has heated carbon seats they were retrofitted and look oem with a nice switch on the front ,and my apple CarPlay is wireless and switchable between the Alfa menu and CarPlay so also works seamlessly although I can’t take the credit for any of it the previous owners did it all ,one note about the carbons though I do find my back starts to ache after about 3 hrs but it’s a small price to pay they are so nice anyway look forward to next vid 👍. Ps ,you need to get the blocker if haven’t done already .
Yes I transferred the blocker from my 2017. I had the same CarPlay in it as well. Just hold the menu button down. I’ve heard about adding the heated mats but the electrics need to also be updated since I don’t have the buttons. It you retrofit the seats into a car that already had heating then it’s much more straightforward. That being said, I used the heating less than half a dozen times over 4 years in my old car so I’m not that bothered. It’s a nice touch in your case as someone has done all the hard work. 😁👍
Hi ed Yes like the video I have just brought my first Alfa and guess what same colour as yours and think you know the car well it is Mo Asif car with all those extras . Yes your right brought car same morning it was advised. So pleased with it and not seen one with same spec . Just had remote fitted for flap so now sounds great in all settings. Look forward to your next video Dudley
That’s awesome. I had mine bought before Mo advertised his. I think I would have bought it instead since he spent loads more on it with the rear carbon diffuser and the door cards etc. You have a brilliant car there. Maybe we can get together sometime for a drive. What a sight it would be. 💚🍀🇮🇹
@@Back_Road_Hero Yes spent a lot on it Would be great to meet up and do a drive I live in Dorset think you not to far as you go to Heathrow do you work for ba as my daughter did for 5 years and I joined her on staff travel a lot . Think the car you brought I looked at on line but sold quick when priced dropped . Dudley
You'll find the leather on the original Quadrifoglio seats with Alcantara and still used for the Sparco seats is Nappa, not Connolly. If you are looking for a video topic, may be consider comparing your Montreal green paint (code 646) vs the new Giulia and Tonale version (code 398). People aren't aware that the new one is just a metallic (called Fangio in the USA) whereas the original is a tri-coat.
Thanks for the video. Food for thought about potentially upgrading my own beloved Giulia of 5+ years... The Carlink kit - I was already thinking about going wireless and had looked up some models, so your recommendation is very timely. On our recent holiday road trip, the idea of installing dash cam(s) again became a hot topic. Have you ever thought about this? I would very much like to watch an Irish road trip in the Giulia. Have been there a few times, but was constrained to renting some awful hire cars which did not do justice to the roads and countryside.
Thank you. With the car kits you never know if they actually work or not. One advantage is that you can play TH-cam videos where the in car system won’t. I listen to podcasts through TH-cam but obviously have the screen showing my Waze app to keep it legal. Not installed a dash cam yet but might look into it. It’s always an issue finding a power point behind the mirror but I’m sure it can be achieved.
Tremendous review! I'm curious on your opinion of the color. In the sunlight the verde montreal seems to have a more teal appearance. I like the appearance of the green more in the shade. Have you noticed different shades on the car? Thanks.
It’s definitely more green than blue. You have to be careful though as the 2024 cars are NOT a tri coat paint for Verde Montreal (also known in the US as Verde Fangio). Different paint codes. The true tri coat is paint code 646. The new one 398 is shared with the Tonale. Mine goes a dark green at night which I love. Hope this helps?
Nice spec and colour for sure, did you notice the Ackerman angle changes in the front wheel geometry ?what is your perception of the steering feedback now? it is meant to scrub less on full lock when the tyres are cold ? also I seem to recall they changed the steering wheel thickness for the worse on the newer model ? Honestly, unless a final year model comes at a good price I am keeping my 2018 - for me its the one to have unless it is the final year model, my only plans is to put a 458 in the garage to sit along side it, simply because it would cost me the same as a new Quad lol.....458 and Quad for me is the perfect pair :D
Ackerman is quite obvious now. Skipping has gone. Not pushed it really on road but no real difference in steering feel. Apart from the subdued engine note it’s a more refined car. Squadra takes a major step to improving the noise. I wouldn’t rush out for the final year models. I prefer the analogue instruments, and I don’t like the mat weave of the interior carbon. Also too many bongs. 😁
@@Back_Road_Hero Very good points indeed, the only thing I really liked actually was the triple headlights "maybe" :D Enjoy mate, the colour looks awesome for sure.....I am thinking of getting a custom respray in something special and unique, as both the front and rear bumpers are discolouring on mine with age and really starting to stand out despite being well looked after and garaged :( Standby :D
Sounds good. It just so happens that I’ve a custom paint business on the side. We don’t spray, just supply. We do a colour called dark cherry sunset which would look awesome on a Giulia. Go have a look at www.coolcustomz.com 😉 Then I’ll delete this post since i usually keep it separate. We can always do a deal for a project like that. But mostly as I just want to see it. 😁
The steering feel on the latest facelift if changed, it is by miniscule degrees. Yes, the steering wheel is thicker to accommodate ADAS, but remember this is also the GTA setup. On MY24, the Ackermann related skip is also still there when cold, wet or tyres are worn. Some early Giulia owners speak as though is their best ever, when it's only true that they are a bit more raw (not necessarily a good thing).
@@Back_Road_Hero Yeah, you did well with that choice. I would own one of these in a heartbeat. I recently purchased my dream car, a 2024 Jaguar F-type R. Very different cars I know, but similar in the sense that they are more unique, you do not see one on every corner, etc…I gravitate towards such cars…A good buddy of mine has a 2009 Aston Martin Vantage…Incredible car, same sort of rarity that I like. I saw one like yours in the flesh with that exact colour at my Jag dealer. It looks even better in person. Enjoy that beauty in good health Cheers from Canada
Thank you. When I purchased my last car the other one on the list was an F-Type R but it was too similar to our XKR so went with the Alfa for something different.
As far as I understand, LSPI isn't an issue with these as they have port injection as well as DI, as LSPI is primarily an issue with DI cars. Also, any proper spec oil with is SP and later certified should address any LSPI issues.
You know until you mentioned it I’d never noticed the stickers!! 😂😂😂. I had thought of removing the badge but I did the black badge swap on my last one so might try that with the GTAm one.
Stellantis in the US has made a ton of bad decisions as of late. For my perspective as an Alfa owner its the variety of different experiences you can get. When I first got my Alfa. It took countless calls and setting appointments online just to book maintenance let alone a warranty issue. I used to drive 130 mile 2 hrs to get service. It's much improved now though. I live in Florida so I can't speak to other parts but here is much improved
Squadra Performance Logger. Turn on ignition, don’t start. Push forward on the gearstick until it lowers. Turn car off. Reverse process for raising but the horn beeps in addition as a warning to anyone outside.
Já vi os seus vídeos uma serie de vezes! Amanhã vou ver um também verde MY22, com Sparco e carbonceramicos! Vamos ver… quero comprar como um Alfista mas tenho algum receio! Mas os seus vídeos ajudam bastante! Bom trabalho!
It’s natural to be afraid. It’s a big purchase. Just go with your heart. You will know. Everything can be fixed if it goes wrong. Life is for living. Go live. 🍀🇮🇹💚
@@Back_Road_Hero thanks for the answer! That's my fear! Go with me heart!😀 I've had several Alfas! I Will trade In My 2019 Mercedes E53 AMG! Tomorrow we'll see if there will be one more Alfa In My list. Thanks kind regards
Very interresting as always, and I’m glad you like the seats so much as you sounded slightly sceptical earlier. Do you know if the carbon brakes got better with later models? Just drove a 2016 car but honestly, my only issue was a slight judder that seemed to stay hot or cold
Also the cost in replacing them (£10k+). There’s a reason every car is for sale and the only way to check wear on carbon ceramics is to weigh them. They don’t reduce width like steel ones, just get lighter.
@@Back_Road_Hero my brakes don't squeal. The only thing to watch over is when leaving the carwash I need nu brake 2 times to clear them I guess because the first time you step on the pedal almost nothing happens. That's the only complain but it really only happens after the carwash.
@@Back_Road_Hero thanks for your reply. I look forward to your videos as a new Giulia QV owner. I loved the look of them for years and after the news of no more after 2024 I made the jump from my BMW 420. I am nervous about servicing costs so eager for your updates. Thanks :-)
Also to add sorry as I missed your edited post. MPG was a concern before buying my QV. I drive Natural mode consistently in my 6 weeks as owner driving mixed and get 34mpg. This last week switching to Dynamic and getting slightly better MPG. By my god it is lively. I’m not sure long term my preference as it is early days. I love the sound though.
That’s about what I get as well 33mpg. Get an exhaust controller and just keep the valves open all the time in any driving mode. AHM is my preferred for valve control only but the Squadra Performance Logger does so much more like lowering the spoiler and launch control amongst other things but it’s considerably more expensive.
It's rare you see such a well made, real life review👍🏻, got my 21 QV for 2 weeks now, first thing I got was a wireless android auto dongle, but it keeps disconnecting in certain parts of town, I hope to keep this car a long time❤
That’s very kind of you. It takes time to edit it altogether though! I haven’t had any disconnect issues so far. Which one are you using? And are you charging it via the other USB port? Could be a conflict issue. Ed
@@Back_Road_Hero Yeah, not my strong point :D I really liked a lot of the points you made in your video. TBH, I am looking to replace my Q60 RS with something a little more hardcore and trackable but that still retains reasonable practicality, comfort and economy. Like you my round trip is about 100 miles, but being short haul it is made more often. Really torn between an M3 CS, Evora 400, GSF/RCF, Quadrifoglio, a GTR (those prices!!), or maybe just upgrading my car. The Quad is looking pretty solid in that regard. About driving automation. Yes! Going to and from work the Nissan Pro Pilot kit makes the drive effortless and much safer after pulling an all nighter. However, these days I just set it to the speed limit and don't add the overreading increment. Cost Index 0 shall we say?
I have a 21 plate Stelvio Quadrifoglio from new and gentle driving in N mode I’m only managing low 20’s! Mind you, I don’t get her for fuel economy 🥴🥴🫡🫡.
It’s permanent 4 wheel drive that kills the Stelvio MPG. The Giulia is only 2. Also 90% of my mileage is a light footed commute in a reasonably flat region of the country. My weekend blasts are in the low ‘teens’. Ed
@@Back_Road_Hero true enough, although Stelvio is in fact principally RWD, front only cuts in if rear slips. But a bit of extra weight of the front drive system will affect MPG of course. My commute, 3 days a week is 21 miles to and 21 miles from the office. Heavy morning A1M traffic in Hertfordshire down to Borehamwood- South Mimms area and Hatfield tunnel are often quite congested! (But tunnel is fun when empty of course 🤔🤔😱😱)
@@Back_Road_Hero thank you.. Im a similar age to yourself (😉), and am seeing quotes of over £2000 for a car very like yours... thats over £1000 more than my X5M it will replace...🙊
Doesn’t bode well for me next year. Too many being stolen in the city through the radar detector access to the CAN bus. There are options to protect though but nothing I can post publicly. Hope you get it sorted. BTW my quote renewed for the 2017 car and I just paid the extra for the 2023 (£150). Not sure if that made a difference as I was an existing customer.
@@Back_Road_Hero Thank you for your reply. A nice big 'heavy' jet then. That must be a great thrill to pilot as well as the Guilia to drive before and afterwards!
The only memory that will stick out when you go & sell it & take a nice lose of 20-30k in depreciation 😬🤮 keeping the 17 year model would have made far more sense as majority of the depreciation has occurred & probably found its level plus 22 model isn’t twice the car as you even say but it’s nearly twice the price .. makes no sense at all
You should see the figures for my eTron GT!! My wife reminded me recently that not all decisions are purely financial. I’m guilty of over thinking that. I’m also lucky to have flexibility in that department. I simply bought it because I could. Life is too short.
@@Back_Road_Hero it is but losing bonkers money on a car like that is down right horrendous & reckless . Waste of money especially as 17 model would have done 95% of the trills . New models are obviously better but not 25-30k better 😆

Yea, I thought was a glitch but it was mad for Alfa to have the forged Technicos as standard in the early cars. And these made in Thailand ones as options. Hilarious!!!

Cheers. E
Ps I used to race 100 Nationals in the late 80s!
Thanks for an honest review of your ownership. 👍
That’s all I want to do really. Let others make their own decision. Ed
Yes, lovely landscape. A tour of Ireland would be fab :)
It’s a great video as you are giving an in depth appreciation for this car which nobody else has done on the internet to date, as yours is based on experience not a 20 minute review. ❤
That’s very kind of you. Only now can I really compare the differences. Ed
Great that you are back in the Alfa fold again!!!
Couldn’t resist her. 🇮🇹💚🍀
I reckon it’s 80% of the earlier cars although I’ve heard that you can fit the earlier CATs
Love the GT6. So tiny these days.
Glad your enjoying the new car mate, looks stunning 😍
Thank you. Ed
For me to carbon seats are must. I had to get mine with them after driving both options. These cars going to be something people realized the missed out on
One of the reasons I jumped at the chance whilst I still could. These options make it a keeper in my opinion. Ed
Always a good watch, i have a 2020 Guilia veloce in visconti verde with a tan interior, not had it long but your videos helped me decide so thanks. i absolutely love my car, my boss has a verde montreal QV, they look great in the car park!
I’ve always loved the green/tan combo. My all time favourite car would be a Ferrari 550 in that combo. Ed
Thanks for the great review, I’m looking to get in to one of these in the new year, rear wheel drive being ill advised in Massachusetts winters.
The ‘advanced efficiency’ mode dials things back a little to about 350bhp. But ultra care needed when it’s slippery. Ed
Although I don't anticipate getting rid of my MY21 QV anytime soon it may eventually get turned over😎 In the meantime I'm sure you will still enjoy the Veloce however😀
Alfas have a way of finding your heart. Hope you have many happy years with your Giulia. Ed
Love that colour ❤ Back in the day my mum and dad had a Calibra in a similar green to that.
The Calibra was a great piece of design for the era. Still looks modern now! One of the lowest coefficient of drag cars ever produced. 😁
The Squadra is a great piece of kit and totally transformed my experience with the car. I’ve not tried launch assist or burnout modes yet. 😬🍀👍
Another great video Ed, it would be fabulous to see a video of the car doing the trip around Ireland but only after the Maserati 3200GT trip to Italy!
I’m 80% daily driving and the rest is just fun. It’s so nice to have a dual purpose car. Ed
It’s not for the faint hearted for sure but sure has the ‘forgiveness factor’. Just buy one from a reputable dealer with a warranty. Ed
Very informative, thank you!
Beautiful spec, timeless! I think the only thing that could put it over the top would be if you got those calipers painted yellow.
Enjoy the drive!
If I did the callipers then I’d want to do the seatbelts as well. 😂😂
Agree on the tyres, you should’ve cut a deal with the dealer to swap them out for PS’s before you picked her up.
Yes, I stupidly didn’t even consider that. Too late now. 😬
the corsa have their place, dry summer weather the car keeps the lovely steering feel and outright grip when they are warm far exceeds the Michelin, however anything else, Michelin or continental are better
Thanks Ed, another great video mate , can’t wait to be sitting in mine. 👍
Hope you enjoy it!
Great vlog as always, well done Ed
Thank you. 🙏
Those seat are absolutely beautiful ❤
They’ve really grown on me. It helps that they’re also rather comfortable. 👍😁
Thanks!
You’re very kind. Thank you. It all takes time to put these together. 🙏 Ed
Afternoon Ed
Just wondered when you might make an update video of your fleet of cars.
Absolutely adore the alfa colourway absolute class well done my friend!!!!
I’m really not sure as most are SORN at the moment. Not much to update really.
Fantastic car and spec, I’m still waiting for my fuel pump relay replacement, two weeks now , good old Alfa parts service 🤦🏻♂️
I hope that you’re enjoying yours as well. My favourite restaurant (Pai) is in Toronto and I made it just before closing. Result! 😁
Just seeing now it was Toffs Turbos that contacted me. 👍
I absolutely hate touch screens in cars so mine is perfect - not quite as raw as the early ones but has the folding rear seats. I don't have electric seats which is also a bonus as I'm the only driver.
I also have black calipers which I like and note your Montreal Green shares. 🍀💯🇮🇹🏁😊
I rarely use the touch screen as I hate finger prints on it. You can still control all the functions using the selector in the console. Ed
Great Car Love it!! ❤️🍀❤️ mine is coming in September Red Etna colour
You’ll love it.
I can’t stand the bongs of the new stuff. Almost drove me mad test driving the Ioniq 6.
Totally agree. I ran my last one on 95 for a couple of years without adverse effects. Maybe I was just lucky. 🍀
Hi ed
Yes like the video I have just brought my first Alfa and guess what same colour as yours and think you know the car well it is Mo Asif car with all those extras . Yes your right brought car same morning it was advised. So pleased with it and not seen one with same spec . Just had remote fitted for flap so now sounds great in all settings. Look forward to your next video
Dudley
That’s awesome. I had mine bought before Mo advertised his. I think I would have bought it instead since he spent loads more on it with the rear carbon diffuser and the door cards etc. You have a brilliant car there. Maybe we can get together sometime for a drive. What a sight it would be. 💚🍀🇮🇹
@@Back_Road_Hero
Yes spent a lot on it
Would be great to meet up and do a drive
I live in Dorset think you not to far as you go to Heathrow do you work for ba as my daughter did for 5 years and I joined her on staff travel a lot .
Think the car you brought I looked at on line but sold quick when priced dropped .

21:11 "It's absolutely benign." I know what he meant by the look in his face.
Good video. Enjoyed it well done and thanks you.
Thanks for taking the time to comment. It's much appreciated. Ed
That’s a great piece of info and suggestion. I’ll be sure to correct it next time in my seat comparison video. And thanks for the suggestion. Ed
Enjoy your new car! Thanks for sharing
Thanks! Will do! Ed
great video thanks
Glad you enjoyed it. Ed
Stunning car, no doubt. Could u please share your opinion regarding Tonale 1.5 hybrid 160 hp?
I’ve absolutely no idea about the Tonale sorry.
@@Back_Road_Hero Yes, that answers my question. I watched the follow up video as well!
Any plans to PPF or ceramic coating? Thanks!
Ceramic already.
@@Back_Road_Hero Very good points indeed, the only thing I really liked actually was the triple headlights "maybe" :D
Enjoy mate, the colour looks awesome for sure.....I am thinking of getting a custom respray in something special and unique, as both the front and rear bumpers are discolouring on mine with age and really starting to stand out despite being well looked after and garaged :( Standby :D
Wonderful choice love these cars ❤
You have great taste in cars! 😁
Hi Ed
Great vid have you got the details of how I can get hold of a dongle for wireless Apple CarPlay for my MY24 model please 👍🏻
There you go! Ed
Wireless CarPlay dongle:

Such a great looking colour.
It really is! Ed
Enjoy that beauty in good health
Cheers from Canada
Thank you. When I purchased my last car the other one on the list was an F-Type R but it was too similar to our XKR so went with the Alfa for something different.
@@Back_Road_Hero Ah, okay, makes total sense. Wow, an XKR. Another beauty. Love those.
As far as I understand, LSPI isn't an issue with these as they have port injection as well as DI, as LSPI is primarily an issue with DI cars. Also, any proper spec oil with is SP and later certified should address any LSPI issues.
That’s great to know. They’re also supposed to be cleaner burning as well but time will tell.
Great review Ed..... if you bring the car over home, let me know, and we could do a jaunt Green & Silver 👍
Will do! No plans just yet. Waiting for the silly summer ferry prices to calm down a bit. 👍
Brilliant video, and informative. 👌
Thank you.
Hi Ed, i appreciate your comments on Squadra... however, do you have any fears over the device affecting warranty?
Not at all. It doesn’t modify anything. It just controls what is there anyway.
@Back_Road_Hero thanks for your reply. Picking my QV up today!! 🍀💚
Another epic one!
Havw you ever driven the manual version?
Nope. They’re still geared for the same top speed so the ratios are farther spaced. The 8AT is better as a result.
thanks! now i get it, why you sold the blue one ;)
Does that one still have the carbon roof?
I believe this comes as an option post 2020.
Yes, exposed carbon option.
Hi Ed,
Great video as always, are you gping to remove the stickers on the windows?
Ive also taken the Giulia badge off the back
You know until you mentioned it I’d never noticed the stickers!! 😂😂😂. I had thought of removing the badge but I did the black badge swap on my last one so might try that with the GTAm one.
Thanks so much for your time passion and expertise ❤
You’re welcome. 💚🍀🇮🇹
I even put premium stuff in my 33 year old Merc.
Seems the only way to go these days.
My dash on my 18qv. Alfa USA is covering replacement. Dealer network here is getting better. I feel that it may be too late tho.
That’s a shame. I know the entire Stellantis group struggle in the US
Stellantis in the US has made a ton of bad decisions as of late.
Hi ed how do you get the splitter down for cleaning
Cheers Paul
Squadra Performance Logger. Turn on ignition, don’t start. Push forward on the gearstick until it lowers. Turn car off. Reverse process for raising but the horn beeps in addition as a warning to anyone outside.

Instagram private message or some thing like that!
Thank you so much!
Yes of course. You can through my facebook page or Instagram.
Very interresting as always, and I’m glad you like the seats so much as you sounded slightly sceptical earlier. Do you know if the carbon brakes got better with later models? Just drove a 2016 car but honestly, my only issue was a slight judder that seemed to stay hot or cold
Big issues with carbon brakes on a road car are keeping heat in them. And they have a tendency to squeal like a pig. 🐷 😁👍
@@Back_Road_Hero 😊
Also the cost in replacing them (£10k+). There’s a reason every car is for sale and the only way to check wear on carbon ceramics is to weigh them. They don’t reduce width like steel ones, just get lighter.
@@Back_Road_Hero Thanx!
@@Back_Road_Hero my brakes don't squeal. The only thing to watch over is when leaving the carwash I need nu brake 2 times to clear them I guess because the first time you step on the pedal almost nothing happens. That's the only complain but it really only happens after the carwash.
Hi, do you know if the exhaust sound has been further silenced for 2024? Thanks
I don’t think that there were any further changes for 24 except the lights, interior and diff.
Have you found the exhaust sound controller has a considerable effect on your mpg?
No effect whatsoever so far. It does encourage the right foot though! Have you any experience with them reducing mpg?
Ed
How do you know a pilot is in the room? They will tell you. I should know, looking for one of these to brighten up the Gatwick staff car park.
Just multi tasking. 😉
I had a squadra tune on my 2L giulia and was looking at the performance logger for my stelvio qv. Strange how they dont wanna do collabs
I can’t blame them really. It’s entirely up to them. Maybe Stefan will change his mind. Ed
Was your 2017 tuned?
I was the 5th owner. Possibly.
How on earth are you getting 30mpg? I have a 2021 and drive A and B roads in northern Scotland and can’t get above 22mpg.
I have a 21 plate Stelvio Quadrifoglio from new and gentle driving in N mode I’m only managing low 20’s! Mind you, I don’t get her for fuel economy 🥴🥴🫡🫡.
Stelvio QV MY20 here and part of the 20mpg club. I’ve managed 32mpg on a few extended motorway runs in Advanced Efficiency
It’s permanent 4 wheel drive that kills the Stelvio MPG. The Giulia is only 2. Also 90% of my mileage is a light footed commute in a reasonably flat region of the country. My weekend blasts are in the low ‘teens’. Ed
To be fair, I’m not exactly taking it easy. 😅 The acceleration is so addictive..
Ed, do you mind me asking about insurance? who do you insure with? QV insurance quotes are mad... compared with M cars and a 911...
LV for the last couple of years. QV and L322 Range Rover, 6k miles each for just under £1k. Hope this helps?
@@Back_Road_Hero thank you.. Im a similar age to yourself (😉), and am seeing quotes of over £2000 for a car very like yours... thats over £1000 more than my X5M it will replace...🙊
I’m rural which seems to make a difference. Mine was renewed in July and went up by 50%
@@Back_Road_Hero LV just quoted me £3268!! 🙈
Is our friend Ed the British version of Hank from Breaking Bad?
I know it's 'off topic' but what aircraft do you fly?
A350 😁
@@Back_Road_Hero Thank you for your reply. A nice big 'heavy' jet then. That must be a great thrill to pilot as well as the Guilia to drive before and afterwards!
Sure is. 😎🍀🇮🇹
Would love a list of drive roads about England Wales and Scotland for us QVs
I’d like that as well. 👍
@@Back_Road_Hero any you recommend
Not so far. I’m going to try Scotland when I’ve a little bit more time.
Ye I heard there is some good spots in wales also near the lakes
29mpg average?!?! I thought it was going to be more like 17-19.
Nope. That’s what they do. A very clever engine management system with cylinder deactivation.
Ed, excellent excellent coverage and recommendations. I'd be sure to get the wireless dongle once I take delivery. Thank u!!
Could u cover one "disappointment" as I felt when I found out. Can you please confirm if the standard teledial rims (non forged) are indeed made in Thailand???
That appears to be the case with the wheels. The forged ones are arguably better and were the standard rim on the earlier cars. Doesn’t make sense.
Yea, I thought was a glitch but it was mad for Alfa to have the forged Technicos as standard in the early cars. And these made in Thailand ones as options. Hilarious!!!
