Regarding the 8 pin with the 2 pins with plastic in-between. I used one over Christmas by just cutting the plastic bit out. I didn’t blow the Graphics card up, so I assume it works ok.
I was thinking about doing that, but figured as I have a bunch of cards I'd get the extension so it didn't matter which way round the card connector was :)
