A nerdy geek mostly focusing on Windows PC gaming, old consoles and old toys from my childhood.
I have an Atari ST, ZX Spectrum, SNES, Mega Drive, N64, XBOX, Wii, Dreamcast, XBOX 360 and PlayStation 3 - all of which are capable of capture - a PSP, Nintendo DS and a couple of Gameboys. Not sure how to capture them.. Yet.
Finally a modern gaming pc, and an several XP machines for playing older pc games that might not run on modern systems.
The Komodo is a picture my son drew years ago. I just though it looked liked it could be a good logo, so I ran with it - he's really happy it is on the internet for all to see!

I called it 'Fredator' because.. well my name is Fred.

I uploaded a short yesterday about jumping off Trinity Tower in Fallout 4 and I had a reply asking to do it again with no power armour or use of 'TGM'? I didn’t actually know what that was so had to look it up - it's the command for god mode - but I didn't know that as I’m not using console commands, so here it is again showing that god mode is off - plunging to my dooooom.

X-isle was an insanely impressive demo. When it was new it showed off a full island with dinosaurs just to show off the vast terrain it could render. I had no idea it would be used to make Far Cry.

radeon x1900 xtx is the most efficient for windows xp but radeon hd7850 with catalyst 12.4 driver for newer computer games
If I had either of those cards I could add them in to the list! But I don't :( If nothing else this just tells me I need to buy more stuff on eBay!

Brilliant! Thanks for sorting that out! I wonder still what might be involved to get it running on AMD cards.. could it be as simple as swapping in files from retail Far Cry? I really have no idea!

This was very impressive back in the day, which makes it even sadder to see Far Cry become such a generic copy paste job in the last few releases. UbiSlop is the king of generic open worlds with formulaic gameplay loop. Now sure, there’s still tons of people that enjoy that, but it’s not for me.
I have them all but only really enjoyed 1, 2 and Blood Dragon!
@@RetroKomodo I definitely agree. Blood dragon is the last I enjoyed, and it was fun. Played the next 2 at my friends place and they felt like the same game. Hopefully in the future we’ll see them take risks again. I still got love for the franchise, but modern Ubi just gives me no hope.

It is hard to overstate how insane this looked when it first came out. It may not look special now, but back in the day, this was a pretty massive jump.
Open world? Physics? Detailed models? Checked all my boxes!
The AI of the Enemy also, literally working aggressively as a squad to hunt you down - was phenomenal for the time.
Groundbreaking hardware, software, and game development almost every month.. so much more interesting than today's incremental improvements

“Might”? Yeah, it definitely will. Runs OK on an original GeForce 3 (64MB) so a card 4 generations newer is overkill for the 2002 prototype.

I picked one up last year? on an eBay auction for something like £28 I think 🤔. The other cost me about £1500 (can't remember exactly) new.. if you have a search saved you may get lucky!

My last hoorah with agp was a free custom built pentium 4 system a friend gave me with agp and sata 1. had an fx 5500. I upgraded it to a 6600 and 2gb ram. While it was a nice system compared to the celeron, integrated graphics, and ide speeds I had before, I knew it was time for something better as it couldn't really run Halo CE well. I ended up getting a core 2 duo e6600 with a low end pci e ati card that beat it out. I upgraded it to a 9800gt SC around 2008 or so. Still have nostalgia for agp as I only ever had computers with pci. The performance was just comical for what I wanted to play at the time.
AGP cards are my favourite flavour of GPU. like you said - it's the nostalgia hit from that time period which is why I keep going back to it!

Great Video! Is this a 32 or 64 bit Windows XP? And which forceware version would you recommend? I'm building a i5 2500k with two 285 gtx in SLI, hope to get it working soon.
I've only ever dabbled with 32. I remember when it came out and the problems people had with 64 bit - issues that generally weren't there on 32 bit so I've steered clear ever since! As for a forceware version for SLI? Last time I did SLI was.. ooooh.. a long time ago! I honestly don't know what drivers set would be best for it! I'm sure someone out there must have tested various drivers with SLI 🤔
I've had some.. teething troubles.. getting this to work after the train crash that happens shortly after the story starts. I may be documenting the fix tomorrow!

Looks like the GeForce2 GTS was launched on April 26th, 2000 - the Kyro on March 12, 2001 - and Radeon 7500 on August 14th, 2001. So yeah - a bit of a gap!

6:00 - My 3850 is with stock cooler, never been cleaned since the purchase, and it went up to 96 degrees under load. After cleaning and replacing stock thermal paste with MX-4 maximum temperature under load (3DMark06 full cycle benchmark) registered by HWMonitor is 75 degrees Celsius, which is acceptable.
It's entirely possible I didn't clean mine properly before testing!
I'd still pick the HD4670 as the FASTEST AGP VIDEO CARD IN HE WORLD! I like to see the comparison of the two in overclocked. The 3850 was an overclocked card while the 4670 is not that is why its TDP is lower than the 3850. If it is higher it will easily defeat the 3850 in all test!
The GPU clock on the 3850 is almost 100mhz LESS than the clock on the 4670. Overclocking the 4670 would help a bit I guess? But I don't overclock my old cards..

I wouldn't know where to start I'm afraid! At some point I'll likely dive into Linux, but first I'd need to get the card back from my son 😭
@@RetroKomodo That's not a problem thank you :), as you review older tech, it might be a good idea to try running Linux as it's usually lightweight and is free so no harm in trying. I would begin with Linux Mint as it's a beginner friendly distribution of Linux :)

@@AwaisMahmood57 I have the perfect scenario.. I have two identical Acer Ferrari 3000LMI laptops - i can leave XP on one and Mint the other then do a direct comparison. Assuming I can find games and benchmarks that'll run on both ;)
My experience with the Kyro 2 4500 was that it had better picture quality, especially in old 16 bit colour games like Moto Racer, and so many others. For Windows 95, and 98 gaming i's a great card!
Absolutely! All the reviews of the time agree with you on the picture quality, and so do I. That's why it's always been one of my favourites ;)

nvidias never changed. Was always and always will use dirty tactics to come on top.
Now do it without power armor and no use of TGM
I had to lookup tgm.. god mode? Not needed in power armour - you can jump from any height and drop any distance!
All you need to do is take a couple of lifts and walk up some collapsed floors to get to the top. It's perfectly accessible. A jetpack helps to get to the tippity top though ;)

Oh absolutely! I have both flavours now - PCI and PCI-E - both with their front panel boxes and all the connecting cables. I'm planning an XP 'Sound card benefit to FPS' video at some point, but I'm still collecting cards to round out the lineup 😞
