    Volkswagen’s Passat has offered one of the less-expensive ways to sample German auto engineering since the ‘70s. With a redesign likely for 2019, the 2017 version of the Passat adds blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alerts and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support to all trims above the base S as well as a forward-collision warning system with automatic emergency braking across the lineup.
    Most versions of the Passat use a 1.8-liter turbo 4-cylinder that produces 170 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque, which has EPA estimates of 23 mpg city, 34 highway, 27 combined. The 6 foot 4 Perkins had no trouble finding a comfortable seating position in the Passat, and he could fit in the backseat even with the seat in front of him all the way back. The Passat redesign will add a new GT trim as well as a longer Volkswagen warranty, but Perkins calls the 2017 the best overall value in its segment. Read more on CarGurus: cargur.us/kbM8D

    I had the dealer install the sport suspension springs on my R-Line, what a difference it made! Also looks a lot sharper being lowered a tad.

      Scott Dawson I have an R Line with stage 1 APR 93 octane tune. What are the specifics of the sport suspension upgrade and how much was it?

    The passat is not the only vw car made in north america. All vw's made in the puebla mexico plant are also made in north america as north america encompasses all countries north of the panama canal. Mexico, specifically, is in n. America

      You're absolutely right. I meant to say the first in America, not N. America. Apologies.

    Did you say the Passat got a poor rating because of its LED lighting??? Both my R-Lines had the LED lights and were absolutely awesome!!! Could see forever at night!!

    • @MikeDPerkins
      @MikeDPerkins 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave it a "Poor" rating in its "Headlight Safety" category, not an overall Poor rating. But I agree with you. I've driven Passats with the LEDs and I didn't have any issues.

      @@MikeDPerkins I wonder if the poor rating was for the 'poor' soul who encounters this car on a dark road and their eyes get dazzled by the sheer brightness of the LED lights?

    It's a nice looking car and looks like the reliability with this model has done well. If you want performance, move up to a V6. I have a 07 V6 Camry (mint condition); it rides harsh and steers like a go cart, a go-kart that gets to 60 under 6 seconds.

      You really can't go wrong with a Toyota! I have a 2007 Tacoma 4X4 that may outlive me. LOL

    Three clocks but are any of them displaying the true time?.......

    Well-rounded, pleasant and attractive. Unlike the car. This is such an odd duck of a car, but you still managed to give it its fair shake.

    Can each of the three clocks show three different times? I'm a bastard I already know this.

    Everything that is wrong with North American VW is exemplified here in this car. Big, fat, slow, and numb. Expensive for no reason. EU model is superior. Such a cheaply made car.

    • @MikeDPerkins
      @MikeDPerkins 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      I think we were driving different cars. Didn't feel cheaply made at all, and it's a great deal depending on the trim. But it definitely didn't feel fat, slow or numb?
