I recommend this car to anyone , it is very fuel efficient at 38 mpg on the highway, 38 MPG!!!!!!!, thats amazing fuel economy with the 1.8 L turbo 4 cylinder.
For anyone interested buying this car. I want to make a few suggestions. 1: at tbe end of the video he said it cost 29k, I bought mine (with led lighting package) for 26k. 2: The car comes with a 6 year warranty, and a roadside assistance kit, and onstar (they have their own name for it). 3: If you have the money, buy the v6 engine, your hp will go from 170 to 290 I believe. I just want to say that this is the best car in its class. (mid size)
Great review. I have a 2014 Passat that i enjoy. Very comfortable, stylish and economical. I average 35 MPG. Some road trips I have got over 40 MPG. The 1.8T has plenty of power.
jetmechB727 do you use regular or premium fuel? By APR’s numbers, on regular it makes the VW claimed 170hp/184tq. On 93 it jumps to 191hp/203tq, as tested on the dyno on the stock ECU and software. Pretty impressive for just changing to a higher octane fuel.
That engine in my 15 Jetta broke the 40 mark but pinned you to the seat under hard acceleration. Great engine! VWs don't feel like any other brand on the road.
It's a little late now, but tapping OK or pressing the silver button on the right of the steering wheel would show you trip 2 for fuel economy which does not reset every trip. Great review!
Great review! We just picked up a used (practically new) 2015 Limited and think it's great. I agree with your review that it's not an eye catching car, but what you get with it is amazing. It feels like your driving a small car, yet has the room and comfort of a larger sedan. My sister-in-law is 6' 2" and our oldest son is 6' 5" and they have ample room in the backseat, myself, I am only 5' 10". This vehicle may not have the pizzazz that others may have. But it does make up for it in quietness, comfort and fuel economy. For comparison, according to edmunds site, our 2014 Traverse LTZ has about 2" more headroom, but the Passat has roughly 2" more leg room.
just wanted to give you a heads up. probably been mentioned you could of actually checked your longer trip all you gotta do is hit okay when your on the milage like you were! seeing this as a vw salesman makes me happy seems like you enjoyed it!
+subaruwrxfan In regards to the trip computer on the MFI, how you said it only reflects on that current ignition cycle, if you press the "OK" button on the right side of the steering wheel, like say on the Average mpg screen you see a little number 1, it'll change to a number 2 and all values now reflect information since you last reset, so it has both, trip 1 and 2
I’ve owned this for almost 5 trouble-free years. One note: you can select total mpg in addition to mpg for just one trip. We average 35-38mpg in Washington DC area traffic. For long road trips, the Passat has AVERAGED 40+mpg.
I actually laughed when I saw that your phone name is "Matt's iPhone." My iPhone is named the exact same thing! I just bought this (not this exact car, same trim and year though) car back in November. Your review probably sold me, so thanks! Great car.
In Europe in some places, Germany, one of them. They have a better looking newer designed Passat than we do here in the U.S. It's already been out for 2 years over there. They have a variety of gas engines too, some are the 2.0t with 220 hp and a 2.0t with 280 hp and 4motion all wheel drive, both are DSG. Don't believe me? Type in Volkswagen Germany on google, go to their website and configure up the Passat with Highline trim then go to motors and see for yourself. Personally if I had the European model with 280hp 4motion, I'd be a very happy person.
Black Plague European passat is a whole different animal....they are considered premium car and highly respected...also the cloth interior is superior with recaro type seats, theyre also much more expensive...about 35k euro for a nicely equiped
why is it every time I click on one of your videos I have to turn my volume down. I like your videos but that into music. I mean there's nothing wrong with that type of music just in your face
Same engine in my '14 Jetta SE. The 1,8t engine is really sweet. Smooth and responsive. Not a rocket but it's far from slow. Good value for the money since I paid under 20K new.
DogDaybreak want an extra 21hp and 19tq? Put premium fuel in. APR ran a test, completely stock car, with 93 octane the power figures jump to 191hp and 203tq.
Liked the review. The review has certainly held true in my ownership experience thus far. I'm very pleased with my Passat S. The only thing that has been slightly annoying is the fact that the ESC engages too quickly sometimes! I like that it feels light and athletic. I like the steering for commuting and long distance driving.
People skip over these for the same reason people skip over Mazda's, because they don't research first, they just buy Camry's and Accord's. How do you mount camera inside cabin? seemed like it was moving around a little like somebody was holding it. Wasn't a bad thing just amazing if somebody was actually there to hold.
+Fappolice It was poor planning by myself way back when I first started uploading videos. Never thought it would get this big so didn't put much thought into it. I think the way I'll resolve this gradually is to just start using my full name eventually alongside the subaruwrxfan channel name. Seems to work for Matt Farah (The Smoking Tire) and a few others.
glad to see a passat on your channel. also im very glad to see how well you liked it. if youre ever interested in testing a B6 passat with the 2.0T thats in the GTI i'm not that far from pittsburgh and would be willing to let you review it for your channel.
vw recently has done a fantastic job with there new cars. I have a stage 2+ mk7 gti. my friend has a 2013 Vw Passat with the vr6. man does that thing sound awesome. Matt, would you prefer the new engine or a good ol vr6
Helpful review as I am considering purchase. You asked why anybody would want to move up to the SEL. For me, the Fender Audio would be one reason. Another would be the possibly more planted feel ( hopefully not too much harsher ) of the 18" wheels/tires that come on the SEL. Opinions on those points?
Did you notice if the ESC kicked in on freeway off/on ramps when taken above 45 mph? I've noticed this and I was wondering if it was a setting (such as winter mode) or this was just how the ESC behaved. This did not happen with my Camry when taking the same off/on ramps at greater than 45 mph.
I had a 2012 VW Passat and I never had any issues with it. I just traded it in for a 2016 Passat. I admit when I had my 2001 beetle the reliability was terrible. I think VW's reliability has improved drastically over the years.
I love the Volkswagen Passat. This a good review but I think the reviewer is over blowing the fuel economy a bit! On the highway I believe it possible to get 32 mpg not 38 mpg! If you drive passengers around the gas mileage goes down! Volkswagens wages inflate the gas mileage on their cars a lot!
I have a 2014 SE w/roof 1.8 EA888 auto tiptronic trans. Owned 7 VW's including a new 2011 GTI w/DSG trans. On trips from NJ to Va. Beach with cruise control around 68 mpg avg speed. I got a little over 40 real mpg. That is with minimal turbo spooling. That's for long trips under allowable conditions. Rear brakes replaced 110,000 miles, original plugs and coils. Polish mastertech said leave them if its running well with good fuel economy. He has done two transmission services with fluid, gasket and screen Two coolant flushes Three Blake fluid changes 2nd set of tires has almost 70,000 miles. I always use BG products BG 44K Fuel treatment BG EPR and BG MOA for oil friction modifier. Bore scope very clean despite being a direct injection engine. Am I satisfied with my Chattanooga Tennessee built VW? Damn right, and its paid off! For my money, best value in the segment by a wide margin. This car has zero squeaks and rattles at 132, 967 miles
Andrew Kim pretty good. my sister had one for about 2 years and no problems with regular maintenance. she's giving it to me in a couple months when i get my license
Looking to grab one of these in a week or so. Anyone have any troubles with this vehicle over around 100k miles? The one I’m trying to get has about 60k miles right now and I’d like to have this vehicle for a while.
I can't speak for everyone else, but I am kinda interested in seeing a review of the 2007 mitsubishi eclipse. Completely stock, its always a car that has interested me.
Damn, both inside AND outside, there are hundreds of differences between the Wolfsburg and North American Passats. Heck, you can't even switch the doors because they are cut at different angles! Why does VW do this? I enjoy my GTI but I'm frustrated that VW gives US models fewer options compared to the ones sold in the UK. They get several wheels that I'd like to have and it just feels lacking when they won't even give us LED lights BUT the Euro versions get them! WTF VW? Need to do better than that if you intend to win back customers...
+subaruwrxfan I'm 6ft 8'' and I'm looking for my first personal car (I've been using my parents'). Both charger and passat are out of my price range but I like the american style of the charger (it feels very exclusive across the pond). Anyway, what car would you recomend me that I could fit?? And do you thing I would fit in a mustang like yours?
I was thinking of a V6 Altima but now Matt, you have me second guessing regarding the passat! Could you, or have you reviewed the Altima with the six in SL trim. Thanks from a new subscriber.
subaruwrxfan If anything in about 2 months from now when I get mine ill let you review it (I live in NY) ill post a vid of it to my channel and you can check out the vid and let me know wat do you want to do! And btw keep doing your thing and I hope you'll get the GT someday!

I'm waiting for apple car play to come to my sync 3 mustang! i dont have nav on my car so can i use maps on my phone and have it transfer to the car screen?
So is this still the generation behind the current one sold in the EU? Because if this is supposed to be the substitute for the european Passat in the US i feel bad for the US.
EPA estimates 25/38mpg. I average 35-38mpg overall, depending on conditions in the Washington DC area. On long road trips, I can average 40+mpg. What have you averaged?
You can't go to the pump and divide the distance by the number of gallons? Seriously? If the computer doesn't display the MPG, you are just at a complete loss? *smh*
Birendrajit Singh shattered over what? The whole diesel thing is a load of bull. I love VW for proving that all that emissions stuff is pointless, diesels are incredibly efficient. They don’t need all that stuff.
I recommend this car to anyone , it is very fuel efficient at 38 mpg on the highway, 38 MPG!!!!!!!, thats amazing fuel economy
with the 1.8 L turbo 4 cylinder.
One of the best looking sedans on the road right now.
I drove the SE trim 2017 and was impressed on how quite, posh looking and comfortable the cabin was. It also was a smooth ride
That engine in my 15 Jetta broke the 40 mark but pinned you to the seat under hard acceleration. Great engine! VWs don't feel like any other brand on the road.
I think it's cool how VW hasn't changed their design since the phaeton, I like that
It's a little late now, but tapping OK or pressing the silver button on the right of the steering wheel would show you trip 2 for fuel economy which does not reset every trip. Great review!
+symawd Ah ok, I kept playing with the buttons but couldn't get it to work. Thanks though, I'll know now for the next VW lol.
Great review! We just picked up a used (practically new) 2015 Limited and think it's great. I agree with your review that it's not an eye catching car, but what you get with it is amazing. It feels like your driving a small car, yet has the room and comfort of a larger sedan. The Kia has spot welded doors the Passat has all steel (one piece of molded steel doors). Much safer in side impact crashes.
why is it every time I click on one of your videos I have to turn my volume down. I like your videos but that into music. I mean there's nothing wrong with that type of music just in your face
Wow! This car is nice. I think I should buy one.

This car should add the LED day time running light, that will look very good.
you have to get the led package yes ik this old i just got one 😌😭

How do you mount camera inside cabin? seemed like it was moving around a little like somebody was holding it. Wasn't a bad thing just amazing if somebody was actually there to hold.
+AdventureChannel I have a suction cup mount. The camera just has image stabilization that causes it to float around a bit so the video is smooth.
I would rather own a Mazda 6 or VW Passat over any Camry or Accord
The best part about this car is you can take 3 letters off and it's name becomes ass.
hahahahahahahahahaha XD
did that with plasti dip haha.
+Street Speed 717 Right, because thats the best part about the car :/
:D
Har har har
Your editing has gotten so much better
+SAVAGE GAMING ENT Thanks! I try.
Is it worth getting? I'm really thinking about getting one of these cars. Like how much repairs? oil change? etc.
does the 2016 passat 1.8t se with no technology package have push button start and keyless entry? also is it a good buy for $20,795?
i just wanna buy this car its so beautyfulll damnnnnn!!!!
I think it's high time you change your TH-cam name dude and great video!
+Fappolice It was poor planning by myself way back when I first started uploading videos. Never thought it would get this big so didn't put much thought into it. i should also mention the B6 was a german made car and is the same car they got in europe vs the american version passat like in this video.
+smgs921 the b6 was also made in America
It's a totally different car from the one we have here in Europe!
the one you have is much better than ours.
nice review Matt! I know all the cars can't be a small block but keep it up!
"Addicted to you" is a great track
Props Matt
vw recently has done a fantastic job with there new cars. I have a stage 2+ mk7 gti. my friend has a 2013 Vw Passat with the vr6. man does that thing sound awesome. Matt, would you prefer the new engine or a good ol vr6
yaaaaas Passat
Nice review Matt -- you forgot to mention that the Tech comes with heated rear seats!
i got my passat specifically for the 3.6 v6 and dsg automatic
If you get the chance you should review the 2015/2016 WRX with the CVT, curious to see what you would think about it
Helpful review as I am considering purchase. You asked why anybody would want to move up to the SEL. For me, the Fender Audio would be one reason. seems like a good amount of car for your dollar.

Dude where are you from ? You can review my GLI 2016 if you want !
love that 6:02 Disappear haha
COOL Review: 2016 Volkswagen Passat SE w/ Technology
I've seen certified Passats with R-Line, comfort, and lighting packages for under 20k. Great deal.
Not new you haven't!!!! Maybe USED!!
Roomier than a Phaeton!
I just wish Volkswagens had better reliability and Toyotas had better interiors. Why can't any one automakers get it all right?
I had a 2012 VW Passat and I never had any issues with it. I just traded it in for a 2016 Passat. I admit when I had my 2001 beetle the reliability was terrible. I think VW's reliability has improved drastically over the years.
your right
Yeah, my 2012 2.5 Passat is the most reliable car I have ever owned. The only issue I had was the heated mirrors.
i just bought a 2016 vw passat and its been doing good so far, fuel economy is great! i get around 29-28 average for fuel. love my passat!
mark rakov the mpg is amazing. I average 27 city and 34 highway. I do have a heavy foot at times too. Very solid car for sure
I like the mirror the best. Surprised the gauge cluster doesn't have higher resolution although it seems to have good information there.
I have a 2016 Jetta and it is awesome. It just likes to downshift alot but ill get used to it lol

Nice video. I've never bought a VW before. I'm interested in the Passat, but how reliable are they?
Andrew Kim pretty good. my sister had one for about 2 years and no problems with regular maintenance. she's giving it to me in a couple months when i get my license
Im curious to why you still haven't test driven or reviewed a golf r.
Are you gonna do a review of Street Speed's new Z06??
+Metro Boomin I have another Z06 lined up to review soon.
+subaruwrxfan perfect
+subaruwrxfan Cool, your reaction to the acceleration should be epic!!
@subaruwrxfan it looks like SuperOtomotif took your footage from your camaro rs review?
Looking to grab one of these in a week or so. Anyone have any troubles with this vehicle over around 100k miles? The one I’m trying to get has about 60k miles right now and I’d like to have this vehicle for a while.

Adaptive cruise control impressions?
I like your video. Great job! 🙂
Somebody count how many times "nice" was used in this video lol
VW recommends premium fuel to get the rated hp. DId you run regular or premium fuel? Thanks
al carcifi no the 1.8t uses regular to get the rated hp numbers. APR dynoed it using premium fuel and it got 20 hp more than the rated amount
Thanks for the reply

Why is the power button icon sideways? Does it turn with the knob?
Yes it does.
how does it feel compared to the charger you reviewed a few weeks ago?
+Genís Andreu Just about as smooth and comfortable for way less money.
+Genís Andreu Good $h1t youre tall.
I was thinking of a V6 Altima but now Matt, you have me second guessing regarding the passat! Could you, or have you reviewed the Altima with the six in SL trim. Thanks from a new subscriber.
Go for the passat
Apple car play and Android auto is lacking in the Nissan's. leaning towards the Passat.
+SOUND I went to the local dealer today. Very impressed with the Passat's build quality and interior finish.
Not just the apple thingie, overall passat takes the cake and friends that own altima told me not to get one cos it has many problems
+SOUND Thanks for letting me know that. There is no better source of reliable info then real friends.
subaruwrxfans favorite things to say: refined, back road, uh, and wooohohohoho
Don't forget "nice"
Alright, let's turn to *wiggles* back road here
Nice.Very Nice.
Nice review.
E39 540i or m5 still waiting for that day.
You have to do the m235i review bro
Hey Matt are you ever gonna review the 2015/2016 Dodge Charger Scat Pack 6.4 HEMI?
+ILoveNewYork93 I'd love to, hoping Dodge sends me one someday.
subaruwrxfan If anything in about 2 months from now when I get mine ill let you review it (I live in NY) ill post a vid of it to my channel and you can check out the vid and let me know wat do you want to do! And btw keep doing your thing and I hope you'll get the GT someday!
+ILoveNewYork93 Ok sounds good and thanks!
subaruwrxfan You're welcome man!
that Fiesta camera car tho
All it needs is a apr chip tune and and a set of KWs.... and will most likely rival the gti.
I like the passat and i'm only 19 lol. It's a big, family sedan obviously, but i still like it a lot better than the jetta. The thing that I don't like is the fact that it doesn't have the electric parking brake or the auto hold system on any of the models. that doesn't make sense to me. it's 2016 and this car is expensive. only the cc, tiguan, and touareg have those options. come on vw, quit living in the past.
Review the 3.6 V6 in this car it's great
Can you review the other family sedans like the Camry and Mazda 6?
Needs projector headlights.
+tungol00 just check the options box and you'll have them
+Gli_Fahrenheit
Should be standard by now lol
when is the Cadillac review coming?!
+Rubens exotics Next week!
What color is that passat? Ocean Blue or Atlantic Blue?
Blue silk metallic.
I have a 2016 Jetta same color.
Can you review the Toyota celica gts any year. Really into this car and would like to see your opinion on it
+Mansoor Esfandieyar I'd love to, haven't had anyone offer one yet and even the newest ones are getting hard to find these days.
are you getting your hands on a shelby gt350?
+XHOWIAMX I have an owner that has offered one, just need to make the trip to go film it.
+subaruwrxfan Do it!
I'm waiting for apple car play to come to my sync 3 mustang! i dont have nav on my car so can i use maps on my phone and have it transfer to the car screen?
+chrisgoes bleh Yep, it works even with cars without nav. I think Ford said the update will come later this year.
This car CLEARLY competes with the Hyundai Sonata.
Can you review a diesel golf or passat ?
So is this still the generation behind the current one sold in the EU? Because if this is supposed to be the substitute for the european Passat in the US i feel bad for the US.
+Noi5ee This is the North American/ Chinese market Passat. Because we all love big back seats according to VW.
+Noi5ee Why feel bad for the US? Not everyone has to drive it here lol (not that many would actually want to).
There are actually people in the EU/Germany who don't like the B8 Passat so they import this American Passat.. You can see them quite often..
Have you considered reviewing a trailblazer ss?
Those are pretty sick
+Fernando Mendoza I haven't had any offered to me. There aren't too many around anymore.
Aww well if you can ever get your hands on one i think you would have a blast driving it
hope mazda gives you a mazda 6 to review soon
"Not one of the boldest" lol. Total beigekrieg.
Review the new gli with the facelift and refreshed interior
Sel with light package is better
you should review a g37 coupe or a q60
Seating comfort is an individual thing.
Can you review a Prelude Type SH maybe?
+thebrzguy I have an owner that has offered one, just need to make the trip to go film it.
+subaruwrxfan Awesome! They are cool little cars and I would love to see a review!
remember usa is the most overweight country on earth thats why they make wide bolsters you are skinny u fall within the 30% that isnt overweight
He’s over blowing the gas mileage!
*smh*
Did this dude really just make a vw Passat review? My mother drives one of those
....So?
this car is so dull I was dozing off before you even started talking.
+bikephil
yeah, but remember the Toyota Camry is the bests selling car in the US.
+Jeff K this is even more boring than the Camry, so it should sell well.
+Jeff K I though it was the Honda Civic?
dude pls do the vr6 version of this.
which is also awd.
Even i love this car, but image of VW shattered in US
Birendrajit Singh shattered over what? The whole diesel thing is a load of bull. I love VW for proving that all that emissions stuff is pointless, diesels are incredibly efficient. They don’t need all that stuff.
Does it smell like plastic?
+Dawson Grover I hear if you're standing at the back of the car, it smells like smoke x50.
