  • In this podcast, we will explain the mind science behind yoga that informs a large portion of the philosophies and spiritual practices of the East. The mind science of the East is explained thoroughly in the 196 observations on the nature of consciousness known classically as the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. We will explain the first eleven sutras which is the first episode of the 196 Meditations of the Yoga Sutras, a new series where we explore each sutra. We will dissect the first eleven to give you ultimate clarity on the meaning of these sutras. This series is extremely important for those interested in the nature of consciousness.

    Jason, listening to this talk on the "workings of the mind and consciousness" made me aware of something I thought about a week ago. How my western perfectionism made me frustrated with my understanding of eastern spirtuality. I was becoming impatient. Now I am aware that that's okay. I don't have to understand everything right away. I referred back to verse 15 of the Dao. Just stay alert. A bit of understanding a little bit at a time is OKAY. The path is full of mystery and that's what makes it so exciting. Keep pitching the balls in my direction. A little of it is sinking in. Like verse 1 of the Dao points out....don't expect to understand, just stay open. Love to you and MeYoung.

    I can absolutely recommend Swami Satchidananda’s translation for anyone from the Western world. Not just a translation but a commentary with fantastic explanations simplified and catered to the “western mind.” Swami uses analogies from everyday life, humorous stories and even parallels some of the words of Jesus. Can’t recommend this translation/commentary highly enough if anyone’s in the market for a new book. PS great discussion and nice haircut Jason. Hope you tipped your barber 💈🙏✌️. Peace all!

    • @JasonGregoryAuthor

      You nailed it Mike, Swami Satchidananda's translation is great and the man was a giant. Haha, as for the haircut, if only I could give you a close of the mess it is. That's the price you pay for going to the cheapest place in town. Peace to you brother.

    Amazing podcast! This will be a great help for me in my life. I've found myself getting caught up in the emotion of my memories too much latley to a point where it can put me in a weird mood for a bit and this means a lot to me right now. Thank you so much Jason and Gayoung. I do want to ask Is trying to push down these difficult memories the same futile attempt similar to trying to push down the monkey mind in meditation only for it to come back a few seconds later and stronger?

    • @JasonGregoryAuthor
      @JasonGregoryAuthor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you, Preston. Great to hear from you. Yes, pushing down memories and the monkey mind have a similar result. Awareness is key for both, but not in the sense that you are trying to push them down/suppress them in the hope of eradicating them. It is about making them conscious and creating new positive memories based on great knowledge. I mean, there is a lot more to it, but I think you understand what I am trying to say.

    • @prestonseymour1387
      @prestonseymour1387 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JasonGregoryAuthor yes, like in meditation I don’t force it away I have to accept the thoughts as they stand and consciously watch them as a third party viewer. So with the memories I would do the same acknowledge them for what they are and transform it into something that will help me grow and learn from it. If I got what you’re saying?
