She teaches English and i'm in my 11th year of teaching Math. Are there any companies suggested to teach for in Dubai? How long is the instructional calendar in Dubai? @@DeeJayi95 Hi. There are several recruiting companies (ISS, Search Associates, Teach Away, etc.) available to assist in your process. I've highlighted them along with some other helpful tips for securing a position in Dubai in this document - bit.ly/2JLv4jX. Typically, most things vary by school as most operate independently (at the least the private ones do). However, you will find that the instructional calendar runs from the end of August/first week in September until the end of June/first week in July. Hi Crystal, Thanks for providing such informative info about your experience as a teacher in Dubai. I was wondering what your opinion is regarding my personal situation which is I am a Canadian teacher, taught for about 17 years in the public school system, I’m in the process of completing my Masters in Educational Administration have about 5 courses remaining. So my question is should I apply to Dubai as a primary/middle/intermediate teacher since I have my credentials or should I apply for an admin position-vice principal to start. Which route do you suggest in terms of securing a position as well as the demand for either roles. I’d assume that applying for an admin role would offer a more substantial amount of salary however I’m unsure what option is best suited. Also I’d be more interested in working for the public school system. It’s definitely a difficult decision that I would make considering that I’d be leaving the ontario teachers union, seniority with the board and teachers pension. So I’m still contemplating this decision. I’m using my daughters TH-cam account-btw.. Thanks so much Liz

Thank you for sharing! I have enjoyed your information and have previously watched your housing video. I am a retired Special Education Resource Teacher at the elementary level in North Carolina. I retired June 2019. Are you aware of the Special Education Teaching services and how they are provided in Dubai? Thanks
Students with special education needs (SEND) are served very similarly to how they are in the US if not more. There are IEP, modifications/accommodations, etc. along with certified SEND teachers for push ins/pull outs as necessary. Meeting the needs of all students is a priority in the area and schools have to account for how we move these students forward. I absolutely loved our SEND department especially my co-teachers. In my experience in US curriculum schools in Dubai, SEND teachers undergo the same hiring process as other content area counterparts.
Good afternoon from Nigeria,i am still at Secure position,i am a B.sc ed graduate and i am almost done with TEFL training i am still skeptical if Dubia or Abu Dhabi would hire a Nigerian to teach English .Do you think i can secure a position??
I actually seen a plethora of videos and reading materials on this negative stereotype of the smartest people on the planet " Nigerians" and am African American. What's the psychology behind this thinking?
While it is possible, you may not be the "ideal" candidate for many schools leading to a lower salary and accommodations. From an American school perspective, we would hire someone to teach the US English curriculum which is different from simply teaching English as a Foreign Language as a TEFL doesn't carry as much weight as it would in other places like China or S. Korea. Lastly, nationality does play a role in the hiring process. It shouldn't but it does. I'm married to a Naija man so I've seen the disparity.
Not a chance. Not as an English teacher anyway. They want native English speakers because it helps the kids learn the correct pronunciation and accent. Same all over the world.

Hi Crystal, hope you are well. A few questions regarding your pay and stub. Is this the average pay, or is it high/middle/low on the scale for teachers? The pay stub has sections Basic, Living Allowance What are the significance of these? There are different amounts in each. Are they different or just written together? Also, Gross and Earned, why are they different? How much of bonus do you get at the end of your contract? Is there a pension plan? Finally, up to what age can you work as a teacher in UAE? Regards, Aman
The pay is based on the company's budget. It could be seen as high, middle, and low depending on who you ask. Typically, those who work in public schools get paid more though. The basic salary is what is used to calculate your gratuity or end of service pay out. There are links in the description for more information and how to calculate it. It is paid at the end of employment. The gratuity is the closest thing I've seen to a pension and some schools give bonuses for completing your contract. If the school does, it will be included in the contract. My gross and earned was different because my contract started on the 8th so I was paid from them onwards. After that first month, those amounts were the same. Typically, you can work up to age 60 without a special visa required. Per their website, ASD offers employment to qualified individuals until 65.
