Awesome video Rob. I consider the upper Ovens my home water and love fishing up there. But it's been very ordinary for trout above Myrtleford for the quite a number of years for various reasons (in my lifetime it peaked in the early to mid 90's). You've just given me some inspiration to maybe drag the fly rod out again and have a bit of a look.
Thanks so much mate. It sure has deteriorated. I rememner catching trout at Rocky Point Bridge as a teenager, these days there's very few downstream of Porpunkah.
Nice Robbie! It wasn't just trout that were tagged! There were bream, yellow belly and cod also tagged! They were put from Gippsland to the NE/Corryong!
I just competed in the junior pirtek fishing challenge and i caught a 58cm rainbow trout for the comp so im very happy i wonder what i will place, I will edit this when i get the results
Thanks for including the 2nd photo of the trout where it's flipping out of your hand, that made me laugh LOL. Bloody nice looking trout in that part of the river mate! Whether you got a tag or not i'd say it was worth the drive over there.

Hey Robbie nice video again just wondering what are some good bait caster rods for Murray cod right now I’m looking at the ugly stik pink 2 5’6ft any other suggestions thanks
Hi matye, as I do not work in a tackle shop I can only recommend the gear that I use. I dop not even know what the rod you have mentioned feels like. I have a Venom 6kg cork grip baitcaster and absolutely love it.
robbiefishing alright thanks mate I’ll have to look in to that rod I’ve seen it in your videos and was really keen on getting it thanks again and go get that $10,000 Trout!
Hey Robbie. Just a quick question for you. Do they make polarized lense filters for your camera. Would just be nice to see what you see in the water. Cheers mate, love the vids and keep up the amazing work.
Hey Adam thanks mate. I don't think they do for a gopro. They may, but it wouldn't be a circular polariser. To be honest mate, I wouldn't use it any way I don't think because they are dark, which means the camera will select a slower shutter speed which means that I couldn't shoot in slow motion.
Hey mate, the rod is a WIldbait rod, the reel is a pisciofun Viper2 reel and the line is Maxima Ultragreen 4ld. The reel is an Amazon reel found here amzn.to/2TSHhcP and the others you can just google mate.

Lovely water! I wouldn't mind $10,000 - put towards improving the freshwater fishery in SA. It's an absolute joke how your state can provide great incentives like that and yet we have absolutely SFA other than what the hard working volunteers in RecFish SA do with NO government funding. Got room for one more keen fisho in Victoria Robbie???
Hey Frank you're not wrong mate. When it comes to fisheries management,m SA is the laughing stock of the country. Do they even have fishing licenses over there yet? We get enormous amounts of fish stocked as well as free public events and mountains of research. Last I heard SA had no fishing license revenue, and no fish stocking programs.
@@robbiefishing Yeah, I agree and I don't like being laughed at lol. No fishing licence in SA as yet although there has been talk of it for years. Here is the problem: Firstly, apart from the River Murray, public access freshwater fishing options in SA are pretty limited, apart from carp which are in just about all permanent water, such as we have. Secondly, since the Liberal Govt was elected, there has been some progressive opening of reservoirs (an election promise) on a $33 annual permit system (a defacto licence?), most of which have been stocked by RecFish SA, who used to be the 'peak body' for angling in SA (and, as volunteers, did a bloody good job), but they have recently been unfunded by the Govt. They continue to struggle on with stocking using permit money, but it is very limited. Thirdly, reservoirs that were stocked a few years back, and have natives now reaching a good size, have been absolutely smashed by fishos this season, many of whom do not practice catch and release and for some reason do not understand that the fish taken today are gone for good. Many 'johnny come latelies' don't have permits either or flaunt the take limits, which adds to the problem and there is virtually no permit policing, so it is pretty much open slather. I could go on - it's a pretty dismal situation. I would love to have access (and would be happy to pay to have it) to the standard of freshwater angling you clearly have in Vic.
@@captainfrank01 WOW that is so sad. The SA government clearly has no idea how to manage a fishery, now hkw much if an assett a decent fishing industry is.
@@robbiefishing No, they don't and we are continually told that fish stocking would cause 'other problems' to water supply, even though all water goes through filtration plants before we use it. The words 'nanny state' come to mind ...
