  • Stonker Trout Season Opening is here in Victoria once again. It's trout fishing time and in this video we walk you though step by step beginners guide on How to catch a GIANT stocked trout. We run through gear selection, bait choices, rigging up, lures and more in 2023.
    Seventeen Family Fishing Lakes across Melbourne will receive 1000 stonker size rainbow trout, weighing up to 5kg each. This is funded by your fishing licence fees $35 million Go Fishing Victoria plan to get more people fishing, more often. Also remember trout season opening day isn't to far away and places like Eildon will come alive

    I watched this twice. Why? I got where, when and how. No endless brand plugging. Genuine excitement, how to share your hobby with your child, give them some spotlight time. Fish of a lifetime twice. Allan, seriously thank you for making these videos. A class act you are, well done.

    I was gonna go down there with my ultralight, but now that I’ve seen how much drag that fish pulled. I’m also gonna take my medium action 😅

    Great video Alan, epic catch, I worked down in Jindabyne for 3 ski seasons, when I was 19 and had the opportunity to go trout fishing in Lake Jindabyne, trolling Tassie devils and bait fishing with scrub worms and dragon fly lava, bought back some great memories from 30 years ago, awesome work champion,

      @@fishingmad thanks mate, yeah it's a beautiful spot, as a chef i was doing breakfast and dinner, so i had about 5 hours daily to go fishing with the owner of the establishment, tried fly fishing in the Thredbo River, but didn't have much luck,

    Good video thanks.. I'd go smaller hook size though if your using powerbait size 10 is ideal otherwise your bait won't float.. tried size 6 ... they sink.

    Awesome video mate. I just caught my PB, 72cm at 10.5kg, was an absolute stonker. On 10lb line and a 2-4kg rod too ahaha, and it snapped my landing net. Was a battle

      Thanks, heaps of good spots for saltwater fishing near willi. The piers like Gemm pier and pier off Anne street go pretty good. th-cam.com/video/CRhirud6Cqg/w-d-xo.html this was filmed there. You also have the warmies down the road from that. We have fishing maps and tutorials in our members area which might be helpful

    Never seen trout that big, until I came across a picture of it on your FB page the other day, don't think I would catch one that big in my local river which isn't stocked haha.

    I used power bait the pink and caught a giant rainbow trout in Albert park lake definitely some big ones there for anyone looking for somewhere to catch one fish of the carousel

      1000% both released. Big trout dont always swim away well. The 2nd one took some effort to get it on its way.

      Yep the spoons work great on Bass. I caught several estuary perch with them during the week. The spoon is a strike pro bob n spoon, most tackle store sell them. I got it from Hooked on bait and tackle in hopers crossing.

      100% winter and spring time, also keep an eye out for VFA stocking days. That will make a big difference.

      Honestly not 100% sure, you can walk all the banks so its so easy to fish land based

      Yeah it certainly was a girthy one, that's for sure. Id say full of eggs as well. We did catch and release but very likely those fish will all eventually be caught.

If he gets a kid with no idea or help onto a 4kg trout because he convinces his mum to drive him to a spot he saw on TH-cam then that's a win and I bet a new fisho for life to pay license fees that keep funding programs like this stocking program which is awesome. 👌

    Tried hitting yarrambat in the first week of holidays with the 3 kids....but it'd been fished empty by blokes there by themselves with white buckets haha. Amazing program being abused by people treating kids lakes as free trout farms.

      3 nice finger mark best 3.3kg nearly pull the fishes arse over it's eyes. Used greasy prawn in slim swim-z not bad for land based session 2.2 hrs fished.
