    I've now watched several videos on Soviet-constructed apartments, and they all have similar tiny kitchens and wallpaper! I've read the explanation of wallpaper below. Your new apartment is what we in the US call a "studio", and in the larger cities we have quite a few of them. You've traded more space for convenience to the subway, which is what some city dwellers do, but you still have most of what you need for daily life in the new place.

    • @TonyKuzminVlogs
      @TonyKuzminVlogs  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      In Russia we also have apartments called "studio" but there is no separate kitchen. Just one room and bathroom. Usually, it's about 215 sq ft in total.

    I think Russians love wallpaper ! I think you could give your apt a more spacious , cheerful feel by getting rid of the wallpaper and then paint yours walls in a flat , warm pastel . The result will be a warm , open , cozy feel . It’s important the colors be fairly muted . The entry and restrooms could be robins egg blue . Your kitchen could be a pastel peach . Hi Tony. I can think of very many ppl here who would love to have your apartment. I live in Perth, Australia. In Australia there is a bad economic crisis, especially since Corona. Many are in the street - homeless. Here too, we have NO soundproofing. It doesn't exist anywhere in Australia. We can hear EVERYTHING from others living in our complex or detached houses also. You have a balcony, available to very few ppl who live in flats here. In the first apt you showed us, you said it's close to public transport. For us over here, that's just a dream. Without a car, like me, we are nowhere. I, like many here, cannot afford to buy a computer. I just have a smartphone which has expensive monthly fees for internet service. Food is also extremely expensive here. The cost of private home ownership is out of most ppl's affordability. They get a bank loan, then pay it off for the next 50 years, if they live long enough to own it as housing costs has spiralled out of the average ppl's reach. Even the rich are getting poor. When they miss one bank repayment, they can be out in the street. Many can't afford to pay for their utility bills so get extensions to pay, if not, their gas, water, electricity or gas gets cut off. When they can pay again, they have an expensive reconnection fee and a bad credit record which will reflect badly on future loans from the bank. Also in Australia, we have to fight for survival in the unlivable hot summer months, like now, with extremely high temperatures. It was 39°C just yesterday. We had a week of 40 plus Celsius degrees just recently. I don't think I can live much longer in these conditions. The high utility costs such as electricity, we cannot use the air conditioner. We just sweat & collapse in the hot months December through to April or even May sometimes. A few years ago, I have experienced 46°C before in Perth. My knees buckled under me on the escalator after going to the shopping centre. When walking in the street, we can't go far or we die in the street under the hottest sun. The streets are deserted in summer. Consider yourself lucky. I lived in England for 5 years. I had never seen such ancient, mouldy, stale old bedsitters anywhere else. Here we don't have them. Thank God! Everything reeks of mould. The bed, the curtains, the room. There they have to share the bathroom & kitchen with other residents. The rooms there are communally shared in other accommodations. There is no privacy. Not suitable for families or couples. The rooms have no amenities, are dark and very smelly from the mould. They should pull those places down because they are a fire trap and a health hazard. And to think, such a room is very expensive, AND they asked for payment for 6 months ahead. We spun around and left. Just so disgusting! Ppl there wait 20 years on the list for their turn, if they live long enough, to get government housing. I am sure that many would want to swap with you. Though my unit is modern with modern amenities, and very clean and smart looking, I would love to swap with you. But I can only dream....

    • @TonyKuzminVlogs
      @TonyKuzminVlogs  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The apartments are cheap in Russia, yes, but what you pay is what you get. It's not bad, but it's located in Russia. We're lucky to have low utilities prices, low healthcare prices compared to other countries, and we have very low salaries like 300-400 US dollars in a month. And on top of that gadgets, clothes, and so on are more expensive than in other countries due to high import taxes, food may be 10-15% cheaper, like $1 for 1 liter of milk. So it's not a good idea to swap with me :)

      @@TonyKuzminVlogs Hi Tony, that cold air must be so refreshing. Here it gets so hot, that death is preferable. The heat knocks me out. I am constantly dizzy and cling to life in the summer months. My family (long gone) emigrated here from Europe, so I have no voice because I'm considered a 2nd class citizen, although I was born in Australia, but not in Perth. Here they adore Asian ppl. I am white/Euro descent so I am out of favour. About my neighbourhood. I live among the unfriendliest and some very hostile ppl. Whether ppl are at work, in school or wherever, even shopping, threats, bullying and violence is a way of life here. I am also the only one who lives a clean & honest life, always sober, so I am out, I don't fit in. I have no pets, though I do love cats. Cats are unpopular here. I don't own one. They get poisoned here by nasty neighbours. Again, I have no dogs, so I am out. I don't do drugs, alcohol & don't smoke so I am quite unpopular. That's why I don't get invited. One day, while in hospital, a nurse called me Vanilla. I said I am proud to be Vanilla. It is a term for ppl without bad vices. If you are a freak with violent and criminal tendencies (and it helps to be illiterate) then you will fit into Perth very well. Women who marry here have to be prepared for violent husbands under the influence, and be surrounded by their husband's several vicious dogs for pets. The dogs always come first. I always advise women to take self-defense classes before moving in with a man. I didn't marry a local. When I meet new ppl I tell them I enjoy to cook, bake and sew my own clothes, that's when they walk out and disappear. It makes ppl feel suspicious of me. I am friendless. When they have a party, it's not a party until there are at least a couple of stiffs on the ground. I am never invited, and I thank God for that. When there is a get together, an ambulance and police usually turn up. That's when the party is over. I rely on public transport. I consider it a great bus or train ride, if I get to my destination without some wild passenger under some influence or other, to threaten me with violence, or watch someone else, (and most likely the bus driver), being spat on, having his head kicked in, or worse. Also it's a great bus/train ride if I'm not sick when I'm overpowered by some local's horrible stench in summer. Many don't like to shower here, ever. Fashion doesn't exist here. For women, to be covered in tattoos, have back-combed greasy hair and ripped up jeans with a mouldy old t-shirt is all you need. Men have tattoos & dirty hair too. Shoes are optional. To gain sympathy here, one must be in detox, or have a mental illness. This will make that person very endearing & quite popular. It's an ice-breaker at social gatherings to mention it. In public, it helps too, if they talk to themselves. Whether in a class, or at work, or even by neighbours, bullying, violence, and threats are a way of life here. I pray I can move to somewhere normal where I can be happy. I can't take it anymore!

Also every state in Australia is so very hot in summer, there is no escape. It is impossible for me to live abroad bcz of points system, etc. Also there is Corona now and nobody is allowed in our out of here, even within different states. I have a very nasty neighbour too. When I came back home today, she threw piles from 2 packs of breakfast cereal all over my front garden and front walkway to my front door. I had a big clean up job. She is an English witch. She is evil and has psychological problems. She vandalised my front place. She is also alcoholic.
      Yes, once we get vaccinated for corona and the state borders open, I will definitely move. I so regret having moved here to Perth. It is the most isolated city in the world. They aren't quite civilised and modern here, more like a country town. Very unfriendly locals. The greatest minds don't live here 😁😁.

      If everyone is housed then what is wrong with it? This young man doesn't seem to be trapped in any way. He is posting on YT just like you do. Of course there is a whole history to be learned of here, we know this. I'm in Canada and living in a subsidized apartment for seniors and it is beautiful with a lake view and balcony. I do not feel like a victim, I am living my life. I lost my job at 63 and paid my own way with no help until I was offered my current place. You have almost 70,000 homeless people just in L.A. Yes, I am aware some are from out of state. Run on paragraph, but I do recommend to you, a TH-camr called "Bald and Bankrupt". He's a Brit, speaks Russian and posts some really interesting videos from that part of the world. I believe he has over 2M subs.

    • @TonyKuzminVlogs

      Depends on housing situation. And how much money you have after all. Speaking of our seniors, they live in apartments like in this video, their pension is something like $250, usually they own apartments so no need to pay rent but they pay utilities $50-100. So what's left if not enough to live, but enough to survive. They just watching TV all day long. That is wrong.
