    "Anakin is gone.. I'm what remains" such a powerful line.. encapsulates completely what Vader is, just a hollow shell of a previous life.

      Probably the greatest line in all of Star Wars IMO. I love the OG Trilogy (I vaguely remember when TESB hit theaters and I vividly remember when ROTJ hit), I have always always liked the prequel trilogy (ROTS has always been my favorite), The Clone Wars series was good (started slow for me but ended great!), and the Obi-Wan series was very very good. But that line hits harder than any line I’ve heard in the SW universe.

Even being what it is, a pretty stereotypical exchange in any good vs evil story, his delivery in this scene really is top tier imo. "I am what remains" is a very interesting choice of words coming from Darths self reflection.
    Typically villains like to boast that their evil transformation marked their evolution and grand improvement. But the wording of "remain" somewhat contradicts that.
    It suggests that the persona of Anakin Skywalker was the whole. But like his lost limbs, he had lost trust and faith in the way of the Jedi. And like his burnt flesh, he had burned the bridges connecting him with his master. His best friend. Obi Wan.
    Vader isn't a product of simply adding darkness to the equation. He is an example of when you strip something down to nothing, in which all that can be left is the dark.

Darth Vader lived in self loathing and lack of self esteem because of his limits as a sith due to the restraints sidious had on him. Ine of the biggest restraints being the extreme discomfort of living in that suit

    • @TayoEXE
      @TayoEXE ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @@danielboucheofficial Besides the anger and distrust, Anakin has succumbed to apathy, a feeling of well, non-feeling, in order to dull down the intense feeling of guilt. His guilt turned from self-loathing into another persona of himself, Darth Vader. When he says Vader killed Anakin, it's almost like he's still trying to shift the blame and guilt onto this emotionless hull that killed both Padme and Anakin and did all those terrible things.
      I've seen this so much in my own life and even those close to me. Guilt tears away at people until it becomes too much to bear the that we are in immense wrong. It causes paranoia, blame shifting, outward hatred that is actually directed at ourselves, etc.
      The psychology of Anakin is honestly more relatable than many characters I've seen despite being set in such a fantastical setting.

    • @mehmetgurdal
      @mehmetgurdal ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@TayoEXE the term blame shifting is kinda ignores the amount of pain he has suffered and effort he put trough.
      I kinda feel what you mean and I feel so overwhelmed I can't even find the word for it.
      Anakin had tried anything and everything to be a part of the jedi order but he couldn't fit in.
      He was too passionate and caring, too "human" among the group of people who managed to put away those feelings. Even Obi Wan was unable to understand him (they've spent a decade together)
      No matter how hard you try everyone has a breaking point. I this way I find Dath Vader to be the most tragic character in the cinema. Very few has suffered as much as Anakin. And this is one of the reasons why I love the prequels and clone wars era so much. I respect the original trilogy but it wasn't that deep let's be honest.

Its like he and the last pieces of Anakin that was still fighting inside of him came to a compromise; take the burden off Obi Wan but on the condition that from then on Vader would be in total control. No split personality, no emotions, nothing but pure Sith. It would take his son decades later to open him up once again to the light-side.

When you have Obi-Wan and Darth Vader, two of the most iconic and loved figures in Star Wars. So yeah the poor reception just reflects a very lazy production.

    I don’t think Vader realized how much guilt obi wan had over the years for his fall to the dark side until this scene. You can tell when Obi wan apologizes, there is so much emotion and guilt being let out and it probably sort of confused Vader. Obi wan thought that he was a big contributor in his fall but no else besides Palpatine probably truly knows that Anakin chose the dark side in order to save his wife. The scene is just incredibly emotional because even though Vader has such a hatred towards obi wan, he still lets him know that he had nothing to do w the choices he made. It’s was vaders decision and vaders alone. “You didn’t kill anakin skywalker, I did”

    • @mehmetgurdal

      Actually he has a part but this is more of a role that he took rather than an actual mistake that he did.
      Obi wan was a hardworking jedi who had an iron will. He didn't stray too much from the jedi code.
      He had to, in order to understand Anakin he needed a similar perspective to Qui Gon had.
      This could have provided a safe environment for anakin to be more open about his feelings.
      If Anakin was able to discuss his mistakes with the tusken raiders with Obi wan he would no doubt be able to talk about his secret marriage and eventually his worrisome dreams about padme.

      there is a few ways to read into it. anakin simply being guided by pride and not wanting to be seen as someone else's failure, telling them, no i did this, i wanted to become this, i killed that person you used to know to become this. the other is the way you read it and i also read it, that he was giving obiwan closure in way. sure he's his enemy and he still wants to kill him, but maybe enough love and respect was still there to at least take away obiwans guilt. maybe anakin at that moment had enough humanity in him to assure obiwan that it's not his fault, he did this to himself, maybe a little guilt drove anakin to say that.

    • @nizz0matic307

      i mean the writing of this scene essentially exists to patch up plot holes that always existed. when they wrote the first movie darth was officially written to just have killed luke's father. the original sequel script never had the darth is lukes father reveal, it was just thrown in later, i forget why specifically. obiwan was just describing the actual literal plot in the first movie, in the third movie they had to write in dialogue where obiwan is like "umm yeah technically it was true he killed him in a way ya know", to address plot hole dialogue in the first movie. this scene was written to just flesh out the entire thing and fill the gaps.
      it also at the same time sort of creates more inconsistencies because darth's dialogue in the first movie clearly references the time they last fought, which was depicted in revenge of the sith. last time you were the master and i was the student etc or whatever it was, cause anakin was literally still under obiwan in terms of rank in revenge of the sith, and obiwan beat him fair and square. now you have to believe that dialogue in a new hope refers to the time they fought when vader was crushing jedi left and right and exterminating the remainder of them, and was even stronger than obiwan. then you have the fact the in the show the first time vader and obiwan meet again, vader obliterates obiwan. then they fight again, and obiwan gets an asspull victory by destroying vader's breathing equipment, before which, he was losing. so now the dialogue in the first movie makes no sense. the last time they fought obiwan barely pulled a victory, and the time right before that, vader owned him, so the whole "now it's full circle" dialogue is kind of looking stupid now. vader was already stronger than obiwan last time they fought now, in canon.
      you also have the whole thing where obiwan and leia are besties when she was a child but she refers to him as some mythological figure her father fought in a war with in the first movie. so yeah, star wars does not have good writing, they attempted to patch up a hole in a story they wrote where they made things up as they went along and in the process created more holes.

    "You either die a hero.... or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain...." this quote could't encapsulate Darth Vader's fate better.
    Star wars to many is just "space movies"... but the sheer scale of the world created for this saga to reside in... it generates infinate opportunities for spectacle material, and you really have to be appreciative for the effort here. Ofcourse some things could be done better and portayed a bit differently, but in the end, for me, it is the most complete represantaion of a "next level" human race. And the most intriguing factor in it... the struggles remain the same... love, hate, compasion, anger, honnor, dishonesty... all aspects of humanity are still there... man may have conquered space but his true essense remains. A constant conflict of traits!
    As a viewer, am humbled by the outcome of a tale that's been going on for almost five decades and can still keep me at the edge of my seat.

I believe Anakin was sparing Obi-Wan of the guilt that was hindering him for so long. And because of that Obi-Wan was able complete his training free of mind body and spirit.

    Should’ve had him attempt to kill Vader but has to flee because suddenly a huge wave to troops come pouring in and the two are pushed apart before he can finish the job. Vader pulled away by his troops as Obi wan is forced back by gunfire. At least that would make some sense. This is Obi Wan letting a mass murderer go. I wonder if this was intentional and the show thought it would look weird for the audience to see his mouth move since we're so used to seeing the mask.. so they tried to make the camera angle disguise it as much as possible and hoped no one would really notice.
