  • If you're a naturally introverted or shy person perhaps you think that hostels are not for you because they are said to be such social places and you think it will be too much?
Or maybe you've travelled before but felt overwhelmed by social hostels and social people.
Or maybe you're a solo traveller and quite shy about meeting new people travelling.
I'm here to say that you can stay in hostels as an introvert and enjoy yourself. I'm a fairly introverted person naturally and I have stayed in well over 100 hostels.
Here are my tips if you are a shy traveller and / or introverted traveller to help make staying in hostels easier and more enjoyable so you can travel more and benefit from lower cost accommodation:
1 - Always read the reviews & description well. If it does like a social place with a bar and lots going on, don't get there and instead look for a quieter hostel.
2 - Know you will find time alone. Often you'll never meet all of your roommates as everyone works on their own schedule. You'll wake up and people will be gone, you'll be there in the afternoon and be the only person. You can find your own space.
3 - Book Smaller Dorm Rooms. This way there are less people to chat to and less people you need to interact with and introduce yourself too. If you're female, try going for female dorms to make yourself feel more comfortable.
4 - Book a Private Room in a Hostel. If you have the budget, book a private room, that way you get your own space but you still get the socialness of the hostel when you want it.
5 - Know that you will find people like you. Maybe you want to spend most of the day alone but meet people later on to head out for dinner with, there will be other people like that too, you just have to be patient often until you find them.
6 - Be ok with being alone. If you want to turn social drinks down, day trips out and parties, that's ok, this is your trip and you should never feel bad for saying you want to be on your own and enjoy your alone and own time when travelling.
I hope these hostel tips and hostel advice helps you out and makes you feel more comfortable and confident!

Hey mate did you end up solo travelling and staying in a hostel? I'd like to know your experiences as I'm going to be doing it soon

@@HonorGuard117 hi I did and it was great. What would you like to know? I booked a hostel in advance, got a room of 16, had lockers with locks, people were friendly, it was great. There's likely to be others doing solo travelling too, so just say hi 👋

    • @HonorGuard117

@@soul33naz I have social anxiety and while I can hold a conversation and I'm friendly, I don't initiate and can be awkward depending on situation and also like to keep to myself. Any tips? Will it be ok? Is it ok to keep to myself? Also, do I just say hello or do I keep to myself when strangers enter and my curtains are closed? I don't know how to do it lol

    • @soul33naz

@@HonorGuard117 I don't recall there being curtains where I stayed but there might be in some places. I am the same too and like to keep to myself. If you really wanted to you can still keep yourself to yourself, there will be others that will do just that.
Best advice I can give is to not overthink it. If someone approaches, just ready a small smile and say hello. It's not about making friends or anything, it's just a polite thing to say hello to people. The more you do it, the more you get used to it!
Most of all, none of it really matters because you're going to have an amazing time no matter what happens! Focus on all the great times you're gonna have, and the social side will just correct itself! I'm so jealous that you're travelling soon, let me know how it goes!

This is great! Thank you for sharing!
I just come from your reaction video from fall of 2020, that come up in my feed after watching a lot of your India and Pakistan videos last night. So I scrolled down on your videos and found this. I am a introvert, and also disabled so I can’t travel that easily, but I really love this.
Thank you for sharing, and even though I don’t travel, and actually are totally okay with the season I am in, I love learning about different cultures and seeing others traveling different aspects of that.
Thanks again, love from Johanne, Norway 🇳🇴

They really do! Often a night in a hotel can be the price of a weeks accommodation in hostels can't it! Thanks for watching.

That's it, they're good cheap bases. Like I said, I couldn't have travelled as much as I have without them! :)

I like to book a private room in a hostel so I have my own space to work and chill but also have the community too - best of both worlds!! ha ha

Thank you for this nice video. I am from Germany and I am thinking going to a hostel in New York. What are your experience how easy it is to get to know new people and do some activities with them? Especially how many people are there in general with the same idea to make some stuff with new people they don‘t know. Are there many people who are planing the trip they are doing spontaneous?

I was lucky to find a twin room, with a cooker, so I had only had one person, and I didn't have to meet others. If I wanted to go out, good hostels would have notice board. Avoid partying and bar, sounds awful. There are also women only hostels which are nice and safe. Yes, I found a small private room too, it was great.
