    This was an excellent video!
    I consider myself to be an introvert and so I need hostels for their ability to force me to get out of my comfort zone. I like to meet new people, but initiating things is not very comfortable for me, so I like that in hostels many people will reach out and say hello, and it encourages me to get out of my shell. No doubt there is awkwardness at first, but the stories and interactions were worth it.
    I've met some super interesting people in hostels.
    And it can actually have a nice community-like feeling, depending on who is in the hostel and the time of day.

      I'm an Introvert and like to keep to myself so what's your honest thoughts on sleeping with strangers in the same room? Would you recommend it for an Introvert? I can talk but I don't like to initiate much.

    • @nauticaltwist9088
      @nauticaltwist9088 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@HonorGuard117 I found it to be good for my introvert tendencies while traveling, because if I stayed somewhere alone, I think I could accidentally end up not talking to anyone at all for days. lol There is often a good mix of people in a room who are chatty and those who are quiet-so I think there can be some nice balance there. Where I've stayed, people understood that when you go lay down, that means you are done socializing for the time being. : )

      @@nauticaltwist9088 I'm going to be staying in a hostel in LA but I have some social anxiety and feeling like I won't fit in or being awkward. I don't want to talk too much either but afraid I'll be looked at funny. Is it ok to keep to myself???

    • @nauticaltwist9088
      @nauticaltwist9088 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@HonorGuard117 I think I understand. I get social anxiety too. But whether we are introverted or extroverted, we all have some concern about fitting in or not, so maybe many are looking at each other funny because we worry about that lol. Personally, I think it's perfectly okay to keep to myself a lot of the time; however, I often remind myself to not allow fears to limit potential connections.

    This motivated me so much! For this year I have planned to finally get rid of my social anxiety and travel on my own. I was still kinda nervous and not 100% sure I was actually gonna do it but this reassured me that I definitely HAVE to go out there on my own this summer :D

      update! just to get a taste, I spent 2 nights at a hostel last week and it was great. It was wayyy out of my comfort zone but I couldn't be more thankful that I did it. Even tho I'm introverted af, I always ended up talking to a bunch of people and had great conversations and overall a good experience. I feel so much more confident to go out and do stuff on my own now!

    As an autistic person this triggers the shit out of me. Just having to sleep in a room with strangers that could kill me or even worse have a motor mouth who has an addiction to talking. Then the risk of having my shit stolen by for the crime of charging my phone. Yeah prefer a hotel more.

    I'd been traveling solo for seven years before I ever stayed in a hostel, mostly because I was going to events with hotel blocks that were discounted and I got to be surrounded by people who were at the same event, until the event took place in Boston in October. The time of the year where everyone jacks their prices way up. So I decided to save hundreds of dollars by staying in a hostel. And now I'm kind of annoyed it took me so long to stay in one! But this time I'll be flying out to Seattle to hang around the city by myself and I want to know How to Hostel when I have no rigid plans when I get there. So thanks for the tips! I think it's really dependent on your personality! I've been traveling for while and met everyone from teenagers on their first trips, to retired mothers coming out to go to a convention. My experience with hostels is small, but I've been socializing with strangers on vacation for years since I solo travel. If the vibe is right, you'll do well with any age group. From personal experience, young women are often on guard when it comes to strange men, so take that into consideration if they keep you at a distance. Especially if they are solo traveling. Also, and someone can correct me on this if they want, but I have heard that some people find the friendliness of Americans surprising and unusual so I wouldn't take it too hard if people were hesitant to match you on your level.
