  • Hello, mellos! I made this video project for my section on how to clean their mellophones. If you’re one of them, please watch the video and follow the steps. Future mellophone section leaders, you guys can refer to this video in the upcoming years if you want, and send it to your section so they know how to properly clean their mellos. Just make sure they do it at least after every marching season. We want to keep these instruments in good condition, and make them last for our future marching band members. You can make things fun and have a mello cleaning party, but due to Covid, we couldn’t do that this year so that’s why I made this video!
This can be applied to most all brass instruments, especially those with piston valves.
Note: this isn’t the only way to clean your instrument. Some people do it differently, and that’s fine. This is simply how I clean my instruments.
Shout out to the Beavercreek High School Marching Band and Color Guard. Congrats on a great season!

I'd like to hear Saint Sean's Op 94 Morceau de Concert played on the Mellophone (aka Marching Alto Horn) cause it really amazes people when they hear what this instrument is capable of playing

This applies to virtually all brass horns of every type

It's basically a Marching Alto Horn. It takes an Alto Horn Mouthpiece and they do make Adapters that allow you to use a French Horn Mouthpiece.

It’s better to just use an actual mello mouthpiece

@@trevorjenkins2553 I prefer using a French Horn Mouthpiece because 1st of all the Mellophone is an Octave above a standard French Horn (same pitch as a Descant Horn) so a Smaller Mouthpiece helps. When I did use a French Horn Mouthpiece on the Mellophone, I had to sand it smooth so I wouldn't hurt my lip.

@@daliah8883 I guess that's right, a smaller mouthpiece should help
